  1. 4.5 Niagara Gorge Trail (271 reviews)
    - Mighty Niagara Gorge Trail (US side)
    Hiking Trails
    Niagara Gorge Trail image
This trail has been recently upgraded, and a gorgeous path meanders along the lower Niagara River and connects to the trail, itself. There is a bike rental nearby, at the Underground Railroad Heritage Center, so one can bike, walk, or jog the trail. With clear views of the River, Canada, and the roar of the majestic Niagara far below, this trail is wonderful. Those with energy and time can now walk to/from Lewiston to/from the actual Niagara Falls park now. Glorious! See more..
  2. 4.5 Devil's Hole State Park (258 reviews)
    - Added stop to Niagara visit
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM State Parks • Hiking Trails
    Devil's Hole State Park image
We enjoyed this more than Niagara Falls (stopped here after words based on a recommendation that I received). Devils Hole portion is a little boring. However, we missed the cave that is "Devils Hole" which would probably have made it more exciting. The whirlpools are really cool at the other end and it's a very scenic area (plus its a small fraction of the people at Niagara). The trail description says out and back but you can make this a loop. To do so, begin by heading down the trail to Devils Hole. Once at the bottom and walking along the river, continue doing so until reaching the whirlpools. Once turning around at the whirpools, take the first set of step back up to the top of the gorge and return to the parking area from the top. See more..
  3. 4.0 Belleayre Mountain Ski Center (164 reviews)
    - Family Friendly Frozen Fun
Wednesday: Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Ski & Snowboard Areas
    Belleayre Mountain Ski Center image
Just a really nice experience, with new lodges and wonderful snow when nature participates. They do make snow, but it is your Northeast granular and packs hard. But the crowds aren't enough to ski off the cover. They have good spacing during this COVID season so you can enter the lodge and feel comfortable. Mid week lift tickets are priced to make taking the day off an option. The slopes are for all levels of skiers. See more..
  4. 4.5 Breakneck Ridge Loop (106 reviews)
    - Third time hiking always love this trail
Spent 2-3 hours Mountains • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
    Breakneck Ridge Loop image
This was the third time i did the breakneckrdge hike. All times we started later in the day around 3pm and was able to find parking no problem and all the crowds had already finished the hike. The first section of the hike is straight up and for us super fun. You have t have proper hiking shoes and be in descent shape and bring water. The views are phenomenal and this time there were lots of hawks drifting in the air sort of suspended and riding the air it was magical. The start of the hike can be a little strenuous but the end is a meandering path. Despite the naysayers saying it’s dangerous. it’s fine you do need to be careful but if you are aware and in pretty good shape you’ll do great. again this was our third time to hike this and we thoroughly enjoyed it every time. The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail image
The perfect way to spend an autumn day. New Paltz Biking was very professional and personable and it was so simple to get biking on the trail. I have hiked and climbed for decades around the Gunks, but this was the first time I rented bikes. It will not be the last. See more..

  7. 4.5 Brewster Peninsula Nature Trails (103 reviews)
    - Nice flat trail with great view of Lake Placid
    Hiking Trails
    Brewster Peninsula Nature Trails image
Nice hike. Very flat but review the map at the trailhead if you're going to explore the various trails as it's VERY easy to turned around and lost albeit you're really not that far from a road so you really can't get TOO lost. We hiked in from the parking lot, took the first left turn which leads to the dam. Great picture taking there. We then headed along the trail that is right on the lake as essentially the trail is one big loop. Keep making right turns and you'll ultimately come back to place where we first turned left and the parking lot is right there. We actually walked there all the way from the Mirror Lake Inn so it was a good day of exercise. See more..
  8. 4.5 Niagara Wine Trail USA (101 reviews)
    - Pick a few and enjoy the day and scenery
    Hiking Trails
    Niagara Wine Trail USA image
We hired an Uber driver for the day to take us to 5 wineries. We started at August of Sun and ended at Lone Cliff. All of them are unique and fun in their own right. We enjoyed the scenery and if we are able to come back would pack a picnic and find a scenic place to chill for lunch. Worth the trip. You will not be disappointed. The wineries were not elaborate like Napa Valley but quaint and more personal. We truly had a great afternoon and loved having our private tour guide in our Uber Driver for the day. It is the way to go. See more..

    - Wonderful views from the top
Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
    Buck mountain hiking trail image
It took us about 70 min to reach the top. 3.4 miles from the trail head. Arrive early as the parking is small and limited. I parked at the YMCA campground which is about 1/2 mile ahead. The hike could be strenuous but you can do at your own pace. The views are rewarding and worth the effort. Bring water (or wine) and sit and sip at the top to enjoy. Fall colors started to show in early October, the lake looks gorgeous with the colors around. Do it! See more..

  12. 4.5 Ferncliff Forest (52 reviews)
    - Wooded walk with killer views!
Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails • Forests
    Ferncliff Forest image
This is by far our favorite "nature walk" in the area to take guests, especially city friends. It's a mini-hike in the woods, suitable for all ages (about 15 minutes, wear sturdy shoes). Take the Fire tower trail and enjoy the cool green serenity of the woods - believe it or not this oasis is in the middle of Rhinebeck! At the end is a fire tower, which is a relic from another day and age, long since replaced by GPS systems. Climb the steps to the most AMAZING view in the area. You can see the silhouette of the Catskill Mountains across the Hudson River, with stunning sunsets. Also in view is the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge, rolling hills of the "Great Estates" along the river and spin around for a view of The Taconic Range on a clear day. WOW. See more..

  14. 5.0 Coney Mountain Trail (42 reviews)
    - Worth the Effort of the Hike
    Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails
    Coney Mountain Trail image
My wife and I started the Tupper Lake Triad by hiking the Coney Mountain Trail. It took us about an hour to get to the top of the mountain. It is not a difficult hike, but I would recommend good hiking boots. I am very overweight and 59 years old and was able to make it to the top. People who are in better shape probably will take half the time. Once at the top, the views are gorgeous. Plan to time just to sit and enjoy the views. If it is a rainy day, the trail will be slippery in spots. Hiking poles will be helpful but not required. We saw several families with dogs and younger children. I highly recommend making the trek if you are in the area See more..

    Stone Church image
Enjoyed about an hour visit to the Stone Church in Dover Plains. Easy walk, not handicapped accessible though. You can go as far up to the cave as you feel comfortable. Hiking shoes are a good idea, as the rocks can get slippery. And to go inside...you might want something waterproof. Parking at the elementary school across the street is ideal. No parking on the actual driveway because its private property. See more..
  17. 4.5 Cobble Hill (34 reviews)
    - Great hike
    Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
    Cobble Hill image
The hike isn't long, maybe half a mile, but it is mostly uphill to get to the pond. It's worth it, however. The pond is beautiful, still, and unspoiled. While we were there, a loon went fishing and called out as well. Wonderful hike, but not for beginners. See more..

Beautiful hike and really was magical. I was concerned about the bitch bark trees that were dead all along the trail. The path was clearly marked. Lots of mushrooms on the trail. It was workout going up. I want to do this one again. 2 bridges, a stream, and go before dark, the mountain gets pitch black. The sunset was well worth seeing it. Mountain faces out west. See more..

  26. 4.5 Town of Lockport Nature Trail (21 reviews)
    - My Falls
    Hiking Trails
Town of Lockport Nature Trail image
I am so deeply touched to see these lovely reviews of "My Falls." You see, I grew up on the property next door. In 1956 (I was 2 years old) my family built the house and my father dug the pond at 6822 Slayton Settlement. Occasionally our family hiked along the creek, back to the falls. As I got older I often went by myself with my Weinheimer dog named Anna. It was a great place to release some pent up frustrations of those teenage years. Later a camp-like building was built at the top of the ridge, near the falls, which was accessible through the orchards on Day Road. Although a longer route from my house, it eliminated having to cross the stream and getting muddy wet. BTW: My brother said he used to climb the big oak trees. So enjoy "MY Falls" and leave only your footprints. Some day my song may be there to greet you. See more..
  27. 4.5 Minna Anthony Common Nature Center (20 reviews)

What a beautiful place! The welcome center has numerous kid friendly displays and adults will enjoy them too. The trails are well marked and they vary in length so if you don't have a lots of time, or just aren't up to a long hike, you can find one that will get you out in nature. The butterfly house was a great surprise and they have a garden too. We brought our dog with us and enjoyed hiking on several of the trails. The one that went along the river was so pretty and peaceful. We did meet a few people on the trails but it was ever crowded. There is a small gift shop inside the welcome center too. We will certainly be returning again. See more..
  28. 4.5 Albany County Rail Trail (20 reviews)
    - An Albany County Asset
    Hiking Trails
We have both walked and bicycled on the Albany County Rail Trail. It is great to have an accessible traffic free trail to do both. As a walking trail, the Rail Trail scenery is less interesting than many of the local parks and nature trails but enough to hold ones interest. As a bicycle trail the varying surfaces of hard pack dirt, gravel, and sand is at times challenging but relatively negotiable with a mountain or city style bicycle. However, the straight, level, traffic-free trail is suitable for even beginners and kids. Folks should be aware that there are no services on the trail and parking is limited at many entry points. Trail users should also be very conscious that they are traveling through neighborhoods and should be respectful of those who live along the trail. We can't wait until the Voorheesville to Altamont section is opened. See more..

  32. 4.5 Stone Valley Trail (17 reviews)
    - Wonderful Day Hike
Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
    Stone Valley Trail image
One of the most scenic hikes I’ve done in the Adirondacks in quite some time. The east side is spectacular (with some dangerous sections- not really for kids). The west wide is less so, but would be good for mountain biking. The whole loop was about 8 miles and it took us 3 hours. Not much change in elevation but the total distance made it delightfully strenuous. Happy we did it- amazing scenery! See more..
  33. 4.5 Tillman Road Wildlife Management Area (17 reviews)
    - Great Place to Hike

Tillman Road Wildlife Management Area image
It was a beautiful spring day here in Western New York, 40 degrees with a brilliant blue sky. My friend suggested a hike, so I went to my hiking bucket list and chose Tillman Road Wildlife Management Area. We had such a good time walking on the boardwalk and beyond, around a large pond or small lake. We found out after we drove away from the parking area that there are a few other parking areas, and the trails appear to be much more extensive than we thought they were. If we go back, I hope we can have a map of the trails with us See more..

We had a nice hike up to the top of the Mt. Ninham fire tower. We parked near the road and walked up a dirt road that took us about 15 minutes. Then we walked up to the top of the tower which was approximately 8 stories. It was in the fall and the view was spectacular. I had a zoom lens on my camera which actually captured a view of the Manhattan skyine. Take a pair of binoculars with you on a clear day for a view of NYC. See more..

  38. 5.0 Black Bear Mountain (13 reviews)
    - Great hike, but not for young children
    Mountains • Hiking Trails
    Black Bear Mountain image
This trail is easy to follow, clearly marked, and maintained by a volunteer trail crew. It shares its parking area with Rocky Mt, but this is a longer hike: plan for half a day (or more) & take a picnic lunch to enjoy when you get on top. I would not recommend this hike for a family with small children, although kids 5-10 and older can do it... small children will tire quickly and you will be carrying them the rest of the way. There is more than one way to get to the top (a branch trail circles the base and comes in from the back) but the main trail, from Rte 28, is the best & most visibly marked trail to follow. It's steep when you get near the top, so supervise younger children! Nice views in several directions, lots of open rock on top to sit and picnic. You can see see several lakes of the Fulton Chain, as well as the Inlet Golf Course... and if you walk along the top and look from the other side, you can see Blue Mt on a good day. See more..

I previously reviewed the Healthy Trails Walkabout but am pleased to report that we continued the trails and finally finished the walkabout. I submitted the paperwork and our patches will be coming soon. Since we started the walkabout last year, I moved from New York to North Carolina so it took us a year of return trips to NY to finish the five trails. this was definitely worth it and I recommend the walkabout to anyone. I started hiking this short trail when my sons were in backpacks, they are now over 30 and over 6 feet tall. It has always been a wonderful place to short hike. It is an easy path to follow. Many years ago they added the bridge , this did make it easier to cross the small stream. I haven't been back in a while , but this review has spiked my interest. My boyfriend, our lab (Lola),and I completed the hike in about 3.5 hours. He had to rest quite a few times but it was a very enjoyable hike to the summit. It took longer than I had anticipated and I wish it had markers along the way. But we had a great time and our dog loved it. The top is a million dollar view. Also becareful at the top, there are hornets near the seating area. However you can avoid them with ease. The fire tower is not accessible to the public. See more..

The Lady at the bottom in the tollbooth told us visibility was zero at the summit and the summit is about 5 miles to travel to get to. The radar said that the afternoon would be partly sunny so we took our chances she was right the summit was completely engulfed in clouds after about 45 minutes the clouds got less and less and we got to see with no clouds if you can go on a cloudy day it’s pretty awesome to experience what it’s like to be in a cloud. The top hiking section was close to the WeatherStation due to Covid but many great views are still seen. The bathrooms are open at the top and food concession is also open at the top. Make sure you read your car manual to understand how to drive down steep hills without burning up your brakes. This place was really awesome it’s a must do if you are in the lake placid area See more..

The is is the first lighted cross country ski trail in North America established in 1971. Really terrific for walking or even more strenuous trails for hikers. Open year round so it serves multiple uses. Easy access in Crandall park with plenty of parking. A wonderful urban asset for Glens Falls. Good for any age group..wide hard pack trails. See more..

Best time to hike to avoid crowds is on a weekday. We did this and only saw a few people on the trail. Very tranquil and joyful! Depending where you start the loop there is either a gradual incline and then a gradual decline. A good workout when climbing up. Perfect picnic stop at the top for lunch. The views remind me a bit of Switzerland, the green hills and a pristine looking river/lake. After hiking, the town of Cold Spring has many good eats. We had to get ice cream and ate it overlooking a romantic lake with a gazebo. Perfect spot for romantic vibes! See more..

There are a few bizarre things about renting a cabin here. Mostly you have to rent starting on a Friday, no linens and the walk through inspection. I also I found the constant threat of financial retaliation for just about anything was less than pleasant. However, the cabins are well kept and clean. We stayed in cabin #2, my wife and I and her mother. The one bathroom was a bit of a challenge but we endured. The idyllic setting is one of the best things about the stay. No traffic noise just the constant chirping of the birds and the sound of the wind in the trees. The beds are horrible. Thin plastic covered mattresses and pillows, I think they were surplus from the NY penal system. We plan on staying again, we'll be better prepared this time. The park itself is beautiful, lots of great views and hiking. See more..
