This is a nice little war of 1812 Battlefield. They have a walking trail where you can walk along with some sites and signs. They also have a couple of buildings with exhibits, one has some period armaments and uniforms. Another details the archaeological excavations on site and some of the things found. You can pay extra to visit the Navy Yard which has some other exhibits on the history of the site. See more..

The museum in the old stone fort is 130 years old and seems to have had a consistent philosophy during its existence - if someone wants to donate it, we're happy to display it. The items in the old fashioned glass cases cover the ancient rocks through a recent hurricane damage and give glimpses into every facet of the surrounding area. Some of the historic materials are amazing - old letters from prominent Revolutionary War figures are a real treat to see. Some of the other exhibits take an enthusiast to appreciate ( there are a lot of rocks and arrowheads that, to an untrained eye, look much the same). All together it is charming and informative. Though we came without kids we did see several families happily engaged in a treasure hunt through the museum with the kids filling out a sheet of items they had searched for. Often a museum like this is dull to children but these kids seemed very engaged. One lack we felt was in an exhibit that told the story of the church itself and the dramatic events of the raids on Schoharie during the Revolutionary War when it was used as a place of shelter during raids. I had never heard of this battle before today. Happened to be looking in TripAdvisor for things in the area we were traveling through and found it! This place is well taken care of and tells the history perfectly. I wish we had learned more about these battles in school! See more..

Old Fort Niagara is a hidden gem. You step back in time amongst the original 18th century buildings. The fort has re-enactors who recreate life in the past. There are musket demonstrations and many exhibits depicting life at the fort. Old Fort Niagara is operated by the Old Fort Niagara Association and the entrance fee, along with the museum shop sales contribute to running the Fort by the non profit organisation. The Fort is in a beautiful location and certainly worth a visit. See more..
