He brought some snacks and water for the group, which we all enjoyed. Our resident historian, Joe, blew us away with his deep knowledge of all the Gettysburg battles. NOTICE FOR 2017: There will be no elevator access to the Mütter Museum for all of January and February 2017. The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, home of The Mütter Museum and Historical Medical Library, will be installing a new elevator from January 1st, 2017. Our new elevator will drastically improve access to our collections and events and visitors will be able to enjoy regular access as of early March, 2017. From January 1st - end of February, anyone unable to navigate stairs will not be able to get into our building. There will not be a ramp. Additionally, due to installation of an exciting new exhibit, access to the gallery currently hosting our Vesalius exhibit will be restricted from mid-January until early March, 2017. Authentically furnished from cellar to attic, the Jennie Wade House is a shrine to Jennie and to life during the American Civil War. Just 20 years old at the time of the Battle, Jennie was kneading dough in the kitchen when a rifle bullet pierced two doors and claimed her life. The Jennie Wade House features guides in period attire who are well-versed in the history of the home. For years, they’ve enthralled visitors with passionate retellings of the tragedy that befell young Jennie and her family. Artifacts from that fatal day in 1863 are on display as well, including the artillery shell that punctured the roof of the house and a floorboard with Jennie’s blood still on it. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour provided by The Amish Experience. I was able to do the Farmlands tour of the community, the Homestead and theatre experience. All the events began on time and the group that I was in was small so we were all able to ask questions without delaying our tour guide. I leaned so much about the Amish community and have a new appreciation for their way of life. Our tour operator Jim was delightful to listen with a tremendous amount of knowledge about the Amish people.
