  2. 5.0 Penn State University (630 reviews)
    - best years of my life

    Penn State University image
P.S.U was one of the happiest days of my life. It is out in the open near mountains. Wish I would have had time to go on nature walks. However, I spent some days walking 3 hours to classes. The classes in the freshman and second level classes were way too crowded. Glad to have gone to PSU Lehigh Valley in Fogelsville where I started a choir for credit and it was extremely personal. What a financial bargain that is and that is how I would recommend you start or community college till you get used to it. The smaller classes in the upper level were fantastic. i took a course on flowers and we identified them by microscope. I never remember having so much fun learning. See more..

    University of Pittsburgh image
The University of Pittsburgh is a unique place. It is a campus that is spread through the city. Being a college situated in a city it has an amazing amount of greenery on campus. Besides that it has one of the most amazing buildings I have ever visited on College Campuses. The "Cathedral of Learning" is a MUST SEE! The international rooms will keep you there for hours. Right next to the Cathedral of learning is the Hienz Chapel. Founded in 1887 it is one of the oldest institutions in America. The school has developed a lot since its days of opening as a prep school in a log cabin. See more..

    Annual Gettysburg Reenactment image
Our family went for the battle reenactment during 4th of July celebrations. The first day we took the audio guide and drove around the battlefield. Then downtown historic Gettysburg where lots of people were dressed in colonial dress and willing to chat. Saturday was the reenactment day.. It was not very well organized so we found ourselves going between different demonstrations back and forth. They were all informative, chatted with our school age boys and answered their questions. Lots of water stations and porta pottys and long lines for food venders. An all day trip but enjoyable and a learning experience. I liked touring the house and barn that were commandeered as a makeshift hospital and of course, the grand finale of the first day battle between the Union and the Confederates. Lots of interesting history. See more..

    - History we shouldn't forget

    Quecreek Mine Rescue Site image
We got there later in the afternoon but the docent was very kind and offered all sorts of extra information. She took her time with us and answered all our questions. We had just missed one of the 9. She said they come through quite often. There were a lot of interactive things where you could hear and see the original 9 in the days after as well as some of the rescue footage. What dedication this community has to keep this site open to the public. The outdoor space is easily reached and gives you further insight into the events that took place. We combined with a trip to Flight 93 Visitor Center. Easily done. Then we went to dinner at Gourmet Buffet in Somerset Commons. Made for a good day. See more..

Dickinson College It is a private school in Carlisle, PA. Old and new limestone buildings and modern architectural style complement each other and make for a beautiful campus. It is a great school for those seeking a small student population while at the same time receiving a top-notch education. The school offers a good number of study-abroad opportunities The directional signs on campus shows the global connections of Dickinson centers around the world. One of my grandchildren attended here and found the course work to be challenging but her professors were caring and supportive. - Daughter attending college

    Bryn Mawr College image
I cannot say enough good things about the education my daughter got at Bryn Mawr. It opened up some many opportunities with excellent professors, activity options, travel and lifelong friendships. Don't ever think she will be isolated because it is a woman's college. It only means there are no men in the dorms. There are many opportunities for grants that you will not find at a state school, because of the active and supportive alumni. Best decision she ever made. See more..

    - Good Mid-Size University

    Bloomsburg University of PA image
My daughter just graduated from Bloomsburg University. It was the perfect college for her. It's a mid-size university with many activities, sports, and groups for the students to join. The campus is really nice with most of the academic buildings situated around the quad. You can get some nice views from the campus. If you or your children are thinking of attending, I would recommend taking a tour. My daughter knew right away it was the place for her and has never regretted her decision. In fact, she would say she loved going to Bloomsburg. The center of town is within walking distance of the campus which is great for the students. In addition to on campus dorms, there is plenty of off campus housing all around town. Upper campus is a short bus ride away. Upper campus has the athletic fields, athletic building, parking for students that bring their cars, and suite style housing. See more..

This is the second time I was here for an event. the first was a wedding where the couple was married in the chapel and had the reception here and the second for a fundraiser. The Martha Washington building was perfect for both occasions. Both times the bar was set up in the room as you entered the building. The wedding had butlered appetizers and the 2nd had a nice selection of cheese crackers, hummus,, bruschetta and fruit. I don't know if they have a specific caterer but both times the food was very good. See more..
