    Main Street Commons image
We have come to the little town of Bethlehem a few times, and have walked up and down Main Street several times. We have loved it every time. It is an awesome area to stroll, browse, and window-shop, while taking in all the sights and the sounds of the fabulous architecture, the ancient Bookstore, the plethora of wonderful Restaurants, and the iconic Bethlehem Hotel up front and center dominating the landscape. The Visitor Center near the Hotel is a “Must Visit”. When we re-visited last week, everything was decked out for Christmas. There was even the clop of the horse hoofs and the rumbling of the Carriage Rides passing by us. The whole atmosphere takes one back to the Victorian Era. So glad that they have managed to maintain that vibe and ambiance. See more..
  5. 5.0 Twin Lakes Park (16 reviews)
    - Shady Strolling
Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Scenic Walking Areas
    Twin Lakes Park image
We love this park for the easy strolling in the shade. Dog friendly and plenty to see around the loops. 2.5 miles roughly for both loops, lower lake has a less-flat path. Good, clean, flushing toilets. Pavilions and picnic areas, benches for contemplating nature. The Tamarack Trail is a wooded path beside the upper lake. Plenty of parking areas (the bigger lots have tight spaces for larger pickups or SUVs). Amphitheater, boathouse with rentals, and a snack shack. Terrific county park. See more..
  6. 4.5 Fall Run Park - Lower Entrance (13 reviews)
    - Absolutely Stunning Trail Leading to a Waterfall
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
Fall Run Park - Lower Entrance image
After covid started we’ve been exploring the local trails and parks, and this is easily my favorite. We had no idea there was a waterfall in the pittsburgh area of this size. It’s best to go on a rainy day or the day after to truly get the best experience with the falls flowing. The trial itself is in a little valley and there a multiple little waterfalls on either side after there’s been a rain, plus that wonderful post-rain smell. The kids we see when we’re here look like they’re having a wonderful time exploring all the nooks and crannies around the creek, under the bridges, and the little gnomes, fairies and scenes that people leave in the knots of the trees. The trail winds itself on either side of the creek, crossing small bridges. Truly a treasure of a trail in all seasons. Note: Watch your footing for parts for the trail that may look fragile and give way. See more..
  7. 4.5 LeTort Spring Run and Nature Trail (12 reviews)
    - My happy place in Carlisle

LeTort Spring Run and Nature Trail image
We lived a block away from this park for two months and were there almost every day for one reason or another. My husband and I would walk or jog the trail and take our son on his bike. It's a lovely, easy path through farmland and along the creek. You pass by old houses and barns. It's a safe place to get out during the COVID pandemic. We also enjoyed hanging out in the park, watching the baby ducks and goslings. There are picturesque spots for picnics and enough space to social distance. My son and I liked playing Pooh Sticks on the bridge. This is my favorite place in Carlisle, for good reason. See more..

The 1,263-acre ChesLen Preserve is the largest privately owned nature preserve open to the public in Chester County. Miles of marked hiking trails lead visitors through shady woodlands, flower-filled meadows, fields of corn and soybeans, and stream valleys. Visitors can also explore Ollie Owl’s NaturePlayGround, where young explorers can climb logs, build stick tee-pees, hunt for bugs, explore small streams, and get a little dirty, tired, and inspired. Free play is encouraged and is a great way for kids to gain an appreciation for nature. ChesLen is one of many preserves owned and cared for by non-profit conservation organization Natural Lands. As the Greater Philadelphia region’s oldest and largest land conservation organization, Natural Lands has preserved more than 125,000 acres, including 43 nature preserves totaling more than 23,000 acres. I grew up right down the street. A beautiful and relaxing place. A popular destination for prom pictures, however it would be better if the damn heathen children who live in the trailer park nearby would stop spray painting on it. See more..

This is one on my favorite trails. Both directions are good but I prefer going south towards West Newton. It is a very easy straight walk following the Youghiogheny river . Talk some water as it's 4.2 miles one way and no where to get any till you reach West Newton. Really nice views. See more..

Found this place on our way home from Penns Cave. Free to look around. Self guided. All outdoor. It is someone’s house. Lots of unique trees with signage. Lots of sculptures peppered throughout your walk. Nature maze & looks to be a cool hangout for a bbq & Fire. Definitely a must stop if you’re in the area. See more..
  15. 5.0 Boot Road Park (2 reviews)
    - Is there Bowling at Boot Road Park
Tuesday: 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Scenic Walking Areas
This is a fine little park, with two ball fields, a playground and a well maintained walking path, no cycles, of about a half mile. No, there is no lawn bowling here. Rather you might come across a bowler in a Cricket match, where one of the ball fields is converted into a pitch! The area is home to many people from India, who bring their passion for bowling, Cricket style. Fascinating to watch, even though I have little clue how the game is played. Excellent walking park. 16. 5.0 Graver Arboretum (1 review)
    - Hidden Gem
Spent 1-2 hours Scenic Walking Areas
This arboretum is maintained by students at one of the many local universities in the Lehigh Valley area. It's tucked away on a back road in Northampton County. It's got about five different walking trails, some groomed and some not. There are a some rare species of trees, especially in the conifer section of the arboretum. I love this place. It's peaceful and quiet, and quite frequently I am the only person in attendance. It's not that far off the beaten path that you can get into trouble. There are some newer homes that abut some of the trails. In the spring there are azaleas and wildflowers, and lots and lots of rhododendrons. I have crossed paths with deer in my early morning walks. Be advised, there are no bathrooms. There is one portapotty. Almost all the trails are level enough for an older person to manage. Once you leave the trails, though, be ready for a face-plant on roots and debris. See more..
  17. 5.0 Meadow Grounds Lake (1 review)
    - "Lake"

    Meadow Grounds Lake image
What is there is beautiful; not what it was in its peak years. They lake had been drained and pretty much it sits now. Great hiking trails, although the "falls" aren't really worth the hike if you want to see them. The pipeline has a great view and overlooks much of 522 just south of McConnellsburg. See more..
  18. 5.0 Art In The Alley (1 review)
    - Outside!
Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
    Art In The Alley image
Wow what a nice surprise running into this attraction. Finally, I could enjoy viewing some good artwork in an outdoor setting as opposed to inside a dusty museum or gallery where I have to breathe in everyone else's diseased covid droplets and aerosols rampaging through the ventilation. A real nice treat for me on the day I got my second shot. HA! Mostly pop art type work here - very colorful and contemporary. I stood in front of the work with comic characters trying to figure out who was who. I'm still kind of obsessing over who's standing to the left of Charlie Brown. I think it is a twisted image of Calvin (from Calvin and Hobbes) sticking out his tounge. I guess that is my favorite piece here. Didn't take long to walk the whole alley and see everything: maybe 20 minutes at the most. The fire station at the end of the block even got involved with a big mural too. Outdoors is where it's at these days no matter how cold it is. Maybe when the hospitals are less full, I can enjoy going to a museum again. See more..
