We came to hike the Falls Trail. It was a wonderful hike, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who isn’t young or in very good shape. Don’t be scared off by the cantankerous rangers. The Falls Trail is beautiful even when the water is low. If you want to do a shorter hike, it takes about 2 hours to go down to Waters Meet and back to the parking lot at Lake Rose Trailhead. The 339-acre Kinzua Bridge State Park, is the home of the reinvented Kinzua Viaduct. The Viaduct, once the longest and tallest railroad structure at 2,053 feet long and 301 feet high, was partially destroyed by a tornado in 2003. Reinvented as a pedestrian walkway during 2011, visitors can stroll 624 feet out on the remaining support towers, peer miles out into the Kinzua Gorge, and gaze down through the partial glass platform at the end of the walkway. The Kinzua Bridge State Park Visitor Center and Park Office features great views, self-guiding exhibits, and information about the surrounding area. See more..

Visiting this park was an excellent experience! The view of the "grand canyon" is well worth it. Luckily, we had a nice weather day so the views in all directions were great. We stayed at the viewing area and did not venture too far down any of the hiking paths. Additionally, we got to see several ospreys and hawks, some of which came really close to the viewing areas. - Nice Overlook

    Colton Point State Park image
My husband and I stopped here on a Saturday in October 2020 around 1:00pm. We only went to the Barbour Rock Trail overlook. There are 2 trails that both go to the same Vista overlook. We took the Yellow trail. It is shorter in distance than the blue trail, but not as much a trail. It really felt like some people walked through the woods and kinda stomped down the vegetation and called it a "trail". My husband kept asking if we were lost because we were the only ones walking that trail. The blue trail had a clear path and had gravel down. The blue trail was much more crowded. I believe the yellow trail was a 1 mile total loop and the blue is 1.5 mile total loop. Whichever trail you take, the hike is worth it when you see that view. It was amazing. It was so peaceful there looking out over the mountains and the river that cut through. I would definitely recommend this trail to anyone that can do it. See more..
  8. 4.5 Cook Forest State Park (301 reviews)
    - Beautiful State Park to Hike
Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM State Parks
    Cook Forest State Park image
After years of wanting to visit, I finally got to explore this state park. Its beautiful with lots of wonderful trails to explore. We did the paved trail, and saw some moss. Then the Longfellow combined with the ancient forest, which took us through some old trees. We also parked near the fire tower and Seneca Point to see these two. Then took the River trail down to Henry Saw Mill Dam so we could se the only waterfall in the park. Its not a big waterfall at all, but it was still a great hike with scenery along the way. So many trails to explore so hoping to go back someday and see more. Maybe in the fall when the leaves are changing. Or the summer when we can do stuff on teh clarion river. We were there early May and it was sort of a colder and wetter weekend. In a way it was nice as their wasn't many people around and we had the forest where we were to ourselves most of the time. Beautiful park worth exploring. See more..
  9. 4.5 Promised Land State Park (264 reviews)
    - Beautiful camping experience
Tuesday: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM State Parks
    Promised Land State Park image
Went camping in the Deerfield part of the park. The sizes of the sites vary and each comes with a firepit with grate. We had a site right next to the bathroom which was convenient but of course had to deal with foot traffic and the lights going on and off at night. The bathrooms are VERY clean. Showers are in another part of the park - didn't get to try them as our camping trip was cut short due to the weather. Walked around 10 minutes to the lake which was beautiful with no one else there (we were there in the late afternoon). Maybe it was the month that we went and the weather was in the 70s - but there no bugs at all. I was really surprised as I usually get bitten by tons of mosquitoes when I go camping. What I liked about this campsite was that each site felt secluded and private. We went with a group so we had a couple of sites. There were other families around us but we rarely even saw or heard them though they were not that far away. Would be definitely go back again. See more..

    - Beautiful

    Cherry Springs State Park image
The place was easy to find and convenient! There was a campground and some more advanced star gazing domes you could rent across the street. Me and my boyfriend went to the public viewing area and hiked way back into the field. It was a full moon so hard to see a lot of stars once the moon came up but we enjoyed the moon instead! Would recommend bringing extra blankets and a pillow or backpack to rest your head. It got quite cool later in the night. ( we stayed until midnight). Looked like a lot of people left around 10 or 11 so if u want the place to yourself show up at midnight and bring some snacks! Quiet and peaceful place. See more..
  11. 4.5 Codorus State Park (233 reviews)
    - Beautiful lakeside and forest terrain
    State Parks
    Codorus State Park image
Codorus State Park provides quite beautiful scenery along Route 216 in southern York County. Today, the waters were sparkling under a bright and unseasonably warm blue sky and sun. Various parking areas are found along the route for picnicking, fishing, and boating. Swimming is the main form of recreation not permitted except in limited areas, though it is not yet warm enough to consider that activity. Instead, contemplation of the beauty of nature on the convenient benches is appropriate. See more..
  12. 4.5 Nockamixon State Park (222 reviews)
    - Great fishing
Spent 2-3 hours State Parks • Parks
    Nockamixon State Park image
The 5,286-acre Nockamixon State Park is in the rolling hills of scenic Bucks County, close enough to Philadelphia or a day trip, but far enough away for a vacation. Tohickon Creek, Three Mile Run, and Haycock Run feed the 1,450-acre Lake Nockamixon, which is a rest stop for migrating waterfowl and a destination for boaters and anglers. Visitors can stay the night in a cabin or enjoy the many activities of the park for the day. Popular activities are picnicking, swimming in the pool, hiking, biking, disc golf, hunting, fishing, and boating. Seasons and Hours: The park is open every day of the year, sunrise to sunset. Day use areas close at dusk. The park office is open specific hours. Fishing and boating is permitted 24 hours a day in designated areas. Some park areas are closed to vehicles in the winter. Contact the park office for facility seasons and hours. See more..
  13. 5.0 Tyler State Park (211 reviews)
    - Fantastic State Park... lots of variety
Tuesday: 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM State Parks
    Tyler State Park image
I’m lucky enough to live near this park and visit it several times a month to walk, Run and explore. There are several places to park. If you’re new to the park, head down to the Dam where you’ll find a good trail map. There’s lots of paved paths but it’s alot more fun to head into the woods and follow some of the horse trails... just watch out for the horse poo... it’s worth it though. The scenery in all 4 seasons is rejuvenating and I never leave there without feeling refreshed and happy... Nature at its finest. See more..
  14. 4.0 French Creek State Park (205 reviews)
    - Interesting network of hiking trails.
    State Parks
    French Creek State Park image
We enjoyed hiking in this park very much! The many trails interconnect well and the blazing is fairly good. Some areas better than others . We made the parking lot near the lovely Scotts Run Lake our base. There is a pleasant picnic area we used for our meals. The Scotts Run Lake is a paradise for fishermen and we saw many successful ones enjoying the action and catching the fish. This location also gives direct access to many trails including Horseshoe and Turtle trail. Horseshoe trail will smoothly connect to Boone trail. We also diverted into Ridge trail but that section seems to be phased out and there is no direct access to former Hopewell Fire Tower seen on the map. Coming back on Horseshoe and Lenape trails you will walk near the camping areas. All along the trails is nature is amazingly beautiful and enjoyable. This is the place we want to go back to many times in the future and continue to explore. See more..

    Gifford Pinchot State Park image
My camp site was next to the lake (a twenty second walk down a path), and right near the bath house. There are many loops and great biking/hiking trails all around the lake. I love hiking and biking, and I was able to hike and bike all the way around the lake (with some help from park rangers who gave me directions). Any point around the lake will provide you with an excellent view of park and the lake. Definitely one of the top five favorite places I’ve camped at. See more..

    - Easy breezy walk

    Ridley Creek State Park image
Easy hike if you walk along the paved path. My only problem was there was no clear directions or map anywhere. That said this is an amazing place for hiking with ample parking, great scenic views, designated picnic areas. The occasional sigh of ruins gives the hiker a rush ! Great for hikers, joggers, casual walks, romantic walks, kids and dogs. It was a 2.5 hour long trail with stops . There is also this amazing gazebo perfect for weddings . What a sight! See more..

Very beautiful area to do some rugged hiking and picnicking. I was there on a Saturday this time, so it was way too crowded. The parking lots were full. Ordinarily I would go during the week. Other than that I had a nice visit on a beautiful fall day. Lots of hiking. See more..

This is an awesome day hike and there are multiple paths that can be taken. It is definitely not for easy hikers as the climb is significant so be prepared for some work. The view at the top is amazing. If you prefer to just drive to the top and look at the view, that is an option too. There are also lots of places for campers and campfires that you can book ahead of time. See more..

  20. 4.5 Bald Eagle State Park (141 reviews)
    - Beautiful Scenery

    Bald Eagle State Park image
We stopped in this park on our way home and it was worth the spot. First, the person who a BB swerved the phone gave us great directions from the highway. Once we arrived we were overcome with the beauty. The activities you can do there are limitless. There were people picnicking, hiking, fishing, boating, and birding. They have an inn right in the middle of the property which I can only imagine how amazing the views are. We will certainly be booking a stay soon. My only critique which seems to be the sane in mist of the Pennsylvania State Parks is that it would be wonderful if they had more interpreted in the visitors center. I understand the focus is on the recreation, but many of these parks are significantly important historically or environmentally and I think it would beneficial for visitors to learn about those things. Pulled in with our class B Rental RV and friendly camp host there for advice and to pay. Stunning little stream next to campground. We did not fish, but there were a lot of fisherman around. Looked like great flyfishing. The area is so stunning. Very close to Gettysburg. We will definitely return! See more..
  22. 4.5 Laurel Hill State Park (131 reviews)
    - Lush 2022 Hemlock Trail
    State Parks
    Laurel Hill State Park image
The wonderful Hemlock Trail brought me here and I will definitely be returning to experience more of this diverse park. Lake with swimming, hiking and bike paths, even some scenic driving on the park roads. This park clearly has a major investment in it and seemed very well maintained just before Memorial Day. The well marked Hemlock Trail is a short walk in very interesting forest and stream terrain. The highlight is the towering trees along the stream. This year was very lushly green and it had rained in the morning so this looked like a rain forest! (The whole park is lush.) There is one short challenging trail section when doing this clockwise; you have to climb up a steep cliff because there is not enough room for the trail to keep going at stream level all the way back to the parking area. Other than that it is an easy walk compatible with little kids or elderly. See more..

Stopped here after the Martin Guitar Factory, as it is just a few minutes away. There are several trails. The following are "mulit-use," i.e., hiking, biking, horseback, cross country skiing: Jacobsburg, 3 miles Homestead, 3.6 miles Sobers Run Main Loop, 2.7 miles Sobers Run Connect Trail, 1.4 miles Sobers Run Explorer Trail, 1.7 miles The hiking only trail is the Henrys Woods Trail, 1.9 miles There is a free map available at the Center. The hike was beautiful. And it was free. How can you go wrong? Highly recommended! See more..
  26. 4.0 Locust Lake State Park (88 reviews)
    - Wonderful Wooded Campground
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM State Parks
    Locust Lake State Park image
We averaged $29 / night for 2 nights for W50. There is a location with potable water to fill your water tank. This is a spectacular area in a beautiful area. The campground is beside a lake that is rated to have the best sunrise in the state. The entire area is heavily wooded and there is a nice paved trail around the lake to walk and bike. The lake also has a small beach for swimming and a boat launch. Our site as all were heavily shaded in the woods with nice spacing between sites. It is very serene and peaceful. The site is dirt and the roads are paved but a bit tight to navigate and back in. The biggest downside is that we could not get level on our site even using several leveling blocks so we could not put our slides out. Even with that drawback, given the spectacular location, we would stay here again! See more..
  27. 4.5 Clear Creek State Park (86 reviews)
    - An Awesome family park
    State Parks
    Clear Creek State Park image
We have camped here in our travel trailer four times in the past two years. We just love it. The bathrooms are always clean. The camp hosts we've encountered have always been friendly. The park rangers have always been friendly. And the weekend activities have been greatly enjoyed by our kids... it's not candy bingo... but it's fun and educational too. There are so many things for the kids (in a natural way)... the roads are paved, so the kids can ride their bikes even when it's wet. The playground is very nice and is a great place for the kids to gather. There's a river where you can canoe or tube. There's another smaller creek (about mid-shin deep) that the kids like to play in and cool off. There's a swimming hole with a little beach in the park, but you'll probably have to drive there from the campground. The sites are big and private for the most part. They almost all back up to the river, stream, or playground. Most sites are generally level but you'll want to bring some levelers. Sites 2-9 and 17-19 are pretty level. If you're in a camper, stay away from Sites 44 & 45... very hard to level your rig. Also... I've seen some bigger rigs (30ft+) try to squeeze into sites 14 & 15... my opinion is that they're too small for those rigs. Sites 31 through 38 are great for looking out over the river but are a little close. They'd be good for a group using multiple sites. Sites 21-26 are good if you want heavy shade. We camp about 30 nights a year... and this is our favorite campground without question. See more..

    Cowans Gap State Park image
We did a fantastic hike from the Geyer Trail up to Big Mountain on the Tuscarora Trail (blue marker) - round trip 6.7 miles. The full hike from the lake is near 9 miles round trip. Geyer (white marker) has an initial 0.6 mile very steep ascent then once on the Tuscarora it levels off. Totally safe for kids... The lookout on Big Mountain is spectacular (you can also drive up). The lake is a great spot for a picnic - lots of outdoor activities as well. See more..

My husband, myself and our friend had a nice stay in the camping cottage that we booked. The camping cottage we stayed in (36) had a bed as well as 2 sets of bunk beds. We brought sleeping bags, linens are not provided. The camping cottage was clean. It was nice and quiet (which isn’t always the case with campgrounds). The park was very peaceful and has nice trails, there is also a beach. We had to purchase wood off site as there was nowhere to buy wood in the park. The bathroom was fairly clean. See more..

    Black Moshannon State Park image
Left early to get there and found we pretty much had the lake to ourselves except one fisherman in a boat. We paddled our two kayaks up the main stem of the lake to explore. We saw all kinds of water lilies at peak bloom white and some pink, yellow coming soon. Saw carnivorous bladderworts, pitcher plants, and sundews. Picked blueberries by kayak along the edge. Breezy showers kept coming through. We ate lunch in the truck, then explored the excellent Bog Trail to see more carnivorous plants and blueberries. The park office had clean restrooms. A very nice park we want to visit again. See more..

We love the beach area here. There is a sand beach by a lake. I will say the lake is always freezing cold however. Our kids just love the beach and water here. There is a nice playground on the beach as well as a snack bar with bathrooms. Dogs are not allowed on the beach but are allowed everywhere else. There are picnic tables all through the park and a meandering creek and nature trails. Check out the dam; it's really neat also. We like going here because it is a nice drive through the country. You don't go through any urban areas, and we have no cell signal at the lake! See more..

Primarily posting this review to get some cottage/cabin photos online for those who are curious. We couldn't find any prior to our trip so thought this may be helpful for anyone planning a visit. Found Cottage #1 to be clean and comfortable. Sleeps five with two bunkbeds (one full-size bottom bunk and 3 twin-size bunks). Nice porch out front with a picnic table and plenty of parking. Cabin equipped with microwave, baseboard heat, air con unit, and several electrical outlets. Adjacent to Yurt A, which was occupied during our stay, and far enough that we heard nothing. Shower/restroom facility is conveniently located about a minute walk down hill. Close enough to be convenient and far enough to be unnoticable during our stay. The men's side included 3 showers (hot water) and 3 bathroom stalls -- same for women's side. Also an outside cleanup sink on the side of the facility for cleaning up dishes or gear. Overall enjoyed our cabin stay and would definitely return. See more..

Greenwood Furnace is always so clean, the water so cold, the camping so welcoming! One of my favorite places to camp. It is so pretty here, the sandy beach and the hiking spots. The water is so good, it really is the perfect camping spot. I've been camping here since I was 18 and went on my first vacation. I prefer it off season, before all the hustle and bustle, when its more quiet and the kids are still in school. So peaceful! My dog loved it here too. Great camp for walking, riding bike, and taking long hikes. They had wood you could buy for $5 and they did not charge extra for showers or anything else like visitors. Everything was reasonable, but no water at the camp sites. No internet or cell reception here, its too far back in but if you travel 10 miles out you can make a call. See more..

    Canoe Creek State Park image
This park is a decent size with plenty to do. There’s a lake for swimming and fishing, there’s hiking trails through the wilderness, camping, and activities for kids. It’s a great place for a quick pit stop or for a full day. One of the coolest parts of the park are the limestone kilns. Roughly 100 years old (according to the park ranger who was there when we were), they used to support Pennsylvania’s steel industry. Today, they sit abandoned and decaying, but free for visitors to CAREFULLY explore. It’s a very short and easy hike to get to the kilns, depending on where you park (I recommend looking at a map to scope out the parking lot closest to them). See more..

    Lackawanna State Park image
There's a little bit of something for everyone. Swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, camping, relaxing....flora and fauna. We usually take the dogs hiking and absolutely love the trails....we still have not done them all but so far we've really liked the trails. The ones we've been on have had some steep climbing both up hill and down and have taken us almost 2 hours to complete...There are easy, short trails as well. The park is usually pretty crowded on the weekends but we still seem to ditch the crowds when we go hiking. The park is split up into sections which can be confusing so I highly suggest getting a map of the park. There's plenty of parking and lots of areas to cook out. You can rent a canoe or kayak...not sure about rowboats....Electric motors only on your boat. I think they have a food stand after labor day near swimming area....I dont know what they have because I've never checked it out. There are park police checking speed limits so obey the signs. Many of the trails are moderate to difficult. Be prepared to do a lot of uphill hiking, but we absolutely loved it. Beautiful scenery, and lots of trails to choose from. The Lake Shore loop is the flattest trail they have if you aren't a fan of uphill hiking...though it offers some inclines as well. It also features great views of the lake and (hopefully) wildlife. There's a nice little beach at the lake if you want to go swimming. We didn't but it looked like a very family friendly place to hang out if that's your thing. See more..

We took a short walk at Shikellamy State Park one morning. The view from the top of the Susquehanna River and Northumberland was stunning! We hiked down one trail and up another trail. Portions of the trail were steep but it was fairly light hiking. We saw several deer along the trail as well as a variety of flora. It was a beautiful hike. The only downside was the bad smells coming from the toilets and dumpster in the pavilion and parking areas. Otherwise this is a great place to visit in the area! See more..
