We really enjoyed visiting the chapel. It was our first time. It is much larger than we thought. And absolutely beautiful! We enjoyed learning it’s history and seeing so many of the artifacts. Hard to believe there are so many in one place. We told our family and friends about it any many plan on visiting it soon. We also look forward to visiting it again. Such a treasure for Pittsburgh.See more..
This is a beautiful church that is worth stopping in rain or shine. The architecture of this historic church is impressive. The explanation about the church by the tour guide and its history is equally impressive. He talked about the church's connection to Asa Packer, who manufactured the stained glass, and some of the construction of the church. Well worth stopping in. During the week, the tours are informal, but I got the impression that tours on weekends are on a time table due to the number of visitors to Jim Thorpe.See more..
5.0Flight 93 Memorial Chapel(143 reviews) - Flight 93 Chapel is worth the time to visit. Points of Interest & Landmarks • Churches & Cathedrals
The Flight 93 Memorial Chapel and outdoor garden is a beautiful place to stop after visiting the national park. It is worth the drive from Route 30. The focus on the flight crew and the artifacts from the flight are impressive. A volunteer, Connie, was amazing. She took time to explain the chapel and it’s collection of memorabilia from Flight 93. I recommend to anyone visiting the Flight 93 National Park to stop at the chapel after.See more..

How remarkable & unexpected to happen upon a majestic Gothic cathedral in a remote stunning bucolic setting just outside Philadelphia! Really it seems a lost world & although the spectacular cathedral was closed when we visited on a recent late Sunday afternoon in June, we look forward to learning more intriguing 17th century history regarding Swedenborg & his followers & returning later in the summer for a organ concert which is sure to be memorable.See more..
4.5St. Patrick Church(35 reviews) - Most Beautiful Church in Pennsylvania Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
Saint Patrick Church is hands down the most beautiful church in Erie with the most amazing Pastor. Msg. Kriegel is one of a kind and the best there is. The stations of the cross are only one of two in the world and a must see. Whether or not you are Catholic, you need to see the church and hear Msg. Kriegel speak. You will be amazed. See more..
4.5Old Log Church(29 reviews) - Well preserved Log Church Churches & Cathedrals
What a wonderful old church! I am a Lutheran and delighted to see that was it's origin. It was open so I went inside and it was very interesting with wooden benches, a pulpit up high and a complete 3 sided balcony. The cemetery was also interesting with many gravestones with dates in the 1800's. I enjoyed my visit even if it was raining at the time.See more..
5.0Saint Emma Monastery(26 reviews) - Benedictine hospitality in a peaceful setting Churches & Cathedrals
The Monastic Guest House on the grounds of St. Emma's Monastery was the perfect place for a 3-day reunion of eight couples from six states in early April 2016. We enjoyed a lovely dinner made by the sisters on our first night and prepared our other meals in the well-appointed guest house kitchen. The sleeping rooms (one downstairs and the rest up) are comfortable, and the living and dining areas offer plenty of room for relaxation, conversation, or a movie. A beautiful chapel off the living room is available for prayer and meditation. Kind caretakers in private quarters keep the place spotless and are available if needed but are never intrusive. We wandered around the grounds, toured the Robertshaw Bed and Breakfast on site, and went to a Vespers service with the nuns. We also enjoyed a visit to Ohiopyle State Park (known for white water rafting) and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, both about an hour away.See more..
4.5St. Peter Cathedral(23 reviews) - It's beautiful at night... Churches & Cathedrals
... with its facade all lit up. Stands out like a regal giant ruling over the city. Probably just as magnificent on the inside. Another beautiful structure I have to admire from only the outside in the COVID era. Just stood for a few minutes out front gazing at her. Snapped a couple shots, and got in my car and started off on my two-hour ride back to Pittsburgh. This was my last stop in Erie. Not sure if I'll ever get back to this city. Not sure I want to and not sure why that is.See more..
4.5Scottish Rite Cathedral(18 reviews) - Number One Spot in New Castle Churches & Cathedrals
The most beautiful old historical building! My husband and I emailed ahead and met Dawn who is very knowledgeable of the history and architecture of the Scottish Cathedral. The stained glass chandeliers and the crystal chandeliers are breath-taking. The rooms are massive in size. The kitchen is huge with renovations of stainless steel ovens, stoves from a grant that they received. We parked across the street and entered the left door and went up the stairs and made a left; you could see the stained glass chandeliers very well from here. The auditorium with its balconies is unbelievable. So glad we visited this wonderful building. Would recommend this to everyone and we would stop again. Family have been here for their pancake breakfasts. We forgot to ask about the second floor "little boy ghost story"; so we'll have to visit again and to see the restrooms with the parlors. So much to take in. See our attached photos. Thank you so much Dawn for all the info and for your time.See more..
During covid-19, the church is closed to tours, for services, and to visitors. But, if you have an opportunity to see these windows, do so. The sanctuary was unlit, the sky outside gloomy, the windows phenomenal and bright. They simply take your breath away. You want to stand and study them minutely. The light that shows in the windows, even on a cloudy day, is spectacular. I can't begin to imagine them on a sunny day. To anyone who has only seen them from the outside, you have seen nothing. Your comments are worthless. Your opinions don't count and should not be considered. I will add photos from the outside and the inside, there simply is no comparison.See more..
4.5Mount Saint Peter Church(8 reviews) - Mount St. Peter stepping into Italy in the U.S. Churches & Cathedrals
A beautiful church built by hands of Italian Immigrants from the remains of the Mellon Mansion. Filled with brass, bronze, marble, and gold. It is a baroque and Romanesque style that brings the visitor to another place and anther era. The ceiling is covered in gold tile like that of Saint Mary Major in Rome and the altar is modeled after that in St. Peters Basilica. The baldachino over the altar is one that truly deserves an award. The entire church is steeped with history and it is a great place to stop off and visit if you are near, there are daily masses and weekend has and confessions. A historic gem in a small town -- also tied to the old mob from the days when New Kensington was known as Little Chicago when the town was run by the Mannarino family. They are also known for the famous Festa Italiana where thousands of meatballs and hundreds of gallons of sauce as well as pounds of lasagna (all home made of course) fill the stomachs of everyone in the valley.See more..

5.0Woodmont(2 reviews) - Woodmont is a wonder to behold Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
This castle like mansion was built in the late 1890's by industrialist Alan Wood. It is now and has been home to the International Peace Mission since the 1940's. Guided tours are available on Sunday afternoons from April to October. Woodmont was built in a French Gothic style and the view of the building from the long roadway leading to the estate is draw dropping. The inside of the house is beautiful as well. The entire grounds and home are immaculately maintained. This is a special place. A visit requires a certain respect be afforded to the hosts as this is a house of worship. We were taken around by a kind and friendly woman who was eager to talk about the estate as well as the teachings of the Peace Mission religion.See more..
4.0St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church(2 reviews) - Greek Festival Spent More than 3 hours Churches & Cathedrals went to the Greek Festival over the weekend, Sunday. Mind you it was on Sunday after the festivities of the weekend festival. It was kind of small in scale, but there was vendors that were very crafty. Candles, crafts, jewelry, etc. There was a hot line of several items of Greek food to eat there or take home. We spent about one hour there. it is wheelchair accessible, bathroom on premise, and friendly people. i would recommend this place next year to those who want to go and spend an hour just to get some original Greek food.See more..

5.0St. Luke's Episcopal Church(2 reviews) - You Don't Have to be a Saint to Attend Luke's Episcopal Church Churches & Cathedrals
Never mind that this beautiful, historic church is in historic downtown Lebanon, the service here is well worth your attendance. We were new to the area, and trying different churches. I have to say the minister here is fantastic. He's a nice guy, an intelligent man, and a dynamic speaker. When he speaks to the congregation, he does so from the aisle, not the pulpit. His messages are realistic, brave, emotional, and incredibly sincere. The seating in the church is comfortable; the people are pleasant, and there's always a coffee/tea gathering after the service for anyone interested. The only thing one must be aware of is that the 10:30 service tends to be high rite, with incense. If that bothers you, attend the earlier service. If you're new to the area, and checking churches out, this is worth the visit.See more..
5.0St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church(2 reviews) - St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church Churches & Cathedrals St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in 1863 by a small group of German Lutherans under the leadership of the Rev. A. T. Geissenhainer. The congregation worshipped in a private home until the first church building was erected in 1864. German remained the language of worship until well into the twentieth century, although some worship services were held in English as early as 1873.See more..
4.0Assumption Of The Blessed Virgin Mary(1 review) - Ukrainian Catholic Church Churches & Cathedrals Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church has a notable presence in Aristes/ Centralia. Most of the time the church is closed so one can mostly admire the architecture from the outside. It is worth for visitors to the area to make a trip to see this 1911 church which survived the Centralian mine fire catastrophe and subsequent exodus of population. Long steep stairs lead to this temple. The building is symmetrical and well balanced in its design and adorned by the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic crosses. Note nice stained glass windows. The church was built on top of rock rather than coal and that is how it survived. It is now a pilgrimage site for Ukrainians.See more..

5.0Round Hill Presbyterian Church(1 review) - Cemetery attests to the 267 year existence of the congregation Spent 1-2 hours Churches & Cathedrals
Round Hill Presbyterian Church at the junction of Church and Roundhill Church Roads is literally on top of a hill where a well-maintained Cemetery fans out over the fields below. The cornerstone includes the following dates: 1756, 1790, 1813, 1900. The earliest date represents the first gathering of the parish on the grounds. In the intervening years, log and brick structures were built until the present impressive sandy yellow brick building with turret, tower, and inspiring stained-glass windows was dedicated around 1900. The Cemetery attests to the 267 year existence of the congregation in this peaceful setting.See more..
1.0South Fork, Pennsylvania 15956(1 review) - Hostile and Rude Churches & Cathedrals On Thursday August 13, 2020 at 10:49 AM, I called the church to find out if they have a website or have their services on YouTube due to Coronavirus social distancing. When looking them up on the web last night, they do have services on Facebook. I do not have a Facebook account nor do I want one due to Facebooks's issues. I still tried looking without creating an account but got Facebooks pop-up "log in or create an account". Just as soon as I clicked "not now", it popped back up. I called the office this morning and was shocked by "FIRST!". I thought I dialed the wrong number so I asked her if this was South Fork First United Methodist Church. I heard dead silence and then "Yehhhs." I tried to ask her if the church had a website or services on YouTube and also tried to explain that I do not have Facebook. She interrupted me, kept talking over me, would not let me speak. I had to try to speak over her "I'm trying to tell you", which she then stopped and gave a loud sigh! No website, no email, only contact is a phone number which when answered treats the caller rudely and as burdens. I should say that the area this church is in is a poverty stricken area where many of its congregants are elderly and do not have internet. The majority of young people move away once they graduate because there are no job opportunities here nor in the surrounding area whether coronavirus is here or not. Due to coronavirus, they have no computer, if they call the church like I did, they're treated rudely and disrespectfully. Jesus Christ never treated the sheep this way and neither should the South Fork First United Methodist Church which claims itself to be followers of Jesus!See more..

5.0Mountain Grove Chapel(1 review) - Awesome Place to worship! Churches & Cathedrals Very welcoming and family oriented. Worship music is great and is more contemporary, but we do, do a mix of hymns also. The people here love the Lord and are very welcoming to visitors. It is a smaller church of about 80 to 100 congregants. The Gospel is taught here through services and weekly bible studies for all ages. Great Children and youth programs also.See more..
The Church and Cemetery have historical importance to the Western Pennsylvania area. Established in 1772 and has historical tombstones of early Irish and German settlers, Revolutionary and GAR veterans who fought to establish this great nation and end slavery. I just stopped by and after 50 years decided to walk around and was surprised with the excellent shape many 200-year-old headstones were in. The church facade is in excellent colonial tradition. It was rebuilt a few times. This is an excellent place for a history buff to visit and I enjoyed the walk with my 2 small dogs.See more..
