Beautiful train and station. Lots of attention to detail which makes the experience quite enjoyable. Many different options including dining cars, lounging cars, coach cars, and more to cater to your desired trip. The polar express with Santa was perfect for the kids. I would say it is a bit pricey but the duration of the trip, overall quality of the train, and service beats other local options. Scenery is not spectacular, but pleasant and mostly in the woods. We did not have a full car which gave us a lot of space. I would be hesitant taking the family in a completely full car so would try to schedule a trip if the online seat map showed some extra space. The online ordering process was very easy. Parking is easy right next to the station, however, it does look like the lot could fill up so give yourself some extra time to make sure you get a parking spot. See more..

    - Fun old train ride

We rode the #17 Steam train Wild West express. Actors were dressed up as old western gangs and lawman to rob the train complete with shoot out. Felt like you were in a western movie. Lots of fun for young and old alike although babies and small ones might not like the loud gunfire. Only thing that would be better in my opinion is more history about the train and route as you were riding. See more..

    - Wonderful jewel of living history

This railroad is an authentic representation of a short line farmers railroads that once dominated rural America before automobiles, and now are mostly gone. A jewel of living history, Stewartstown Railroad is possibly the oldest, and only short line railroad in America that is still operating and under its original charter. For all of its creaks and squeaks it has a devoted following in the community which is why it is still in existence today. And don’t bet on this 135 year old railroad going the way of so many others on the long list of gone and forgotten railroads. Stewartstown railroad is coming back strong. In 2019 they ran steam for the first time in 80 years; and steam is coming back again in 2020. I commend Stewartstown Railroad for preserving an important part American. See more..

The Scout Troup in nearby Stewartstown and the local Preservation Society have kindly provided a guide board to help one find the historic buildings in Muddy Creek Forks Village. There is a mill and a train station among the preserved buildings. Each building in this Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad crossing has a descriptive sign. The north and south branches of Muddy Creek come together near the village as the name implies, and with recent rains, the fast-moving Creek sparkles in the sun. See more..
