  3. 4.5 Heinz Memorial Chapel (260 reviews)

    Heinz Memorial Chapel image
If you didn't know better you might think you were in a medieval French church. You aren't. The Heinz Memorial Chapel is the college chapel at the University of Pittsburgh. No admission is charged. Upon entry, a small brochure with a brief overview of the chapel's history and architecture was provided free of charge. It included a guide to the stunning stained-glass windows. Depending on your interest in architecture and churches, you could easily spend an hour here looking at everything. It would be nice if they offered visitors the ability to access the organ loft or some sort of behind the scenes tour with a guide even if there was a charge. See more..

  5. 4.5 Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine (145 reviews)
    - visiting during the annual festival
Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM Religious Sites
Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine image
This time we visited the Doylestown shrine on a second day of the first weekend of the annual festival. The shrine complex was all joyful, vibrant, interesting and full of activities. The holy mass was remarkable and besides the organ featured the Highlanders band. The food was very good but the lines unreasonably long especially indoors. One could partake in many Polish and Middle European dishes. Great store with delicious bakes goods. Czestochowa features also a museum and religious store which are permanent parts of the monastery complex. During the festival there were many temporary stands with souvenirs, wine, books, amber jewelry. We always try also to visit the beautiful cemetery. Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine is a great destination at any time but especially during special events. See more..
  6. 5.0 Beth Sholom Synagogue (100 reviews)
    - A Living Monument to two men who shared a vision for "An American Synagogue"
Tuesday: Spent 1-2 hours Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
    Beth Sholom Synagogue image
The design of Beth Shalom Synagogue reflects Frank Lloyd Wright's legacy of making every building he designed "one of a kind" with surprising, and at times, startling, features. Our experience there was enhanced by the skilled tour guide who could point out details of Wright's and Rabbi Cohen's vision that we otherwise would have missed. One could almost sense the presence of the architect and the rabbi in the sanctuary because evidence of their love for God and beauty was so tangible. There were 4 of us on the tour- two Jews and two Christians. All of us enjoyed the experience equally. The film that was shown before our tour gave us insight into the brilliance of the Rabbi (Mortimer Cohen) who was tenacious in recruiting Wright for the project. The film's narrator read letters the two men exchanged over the years of planning, drawing ever more closely into a relationship of mutual affection, respect, and creativity. See more..

  9. 3.0 Congregation Beth Yeshua (9 reviews)
    - A strong united impassioned jewish congregation
    Religious Sites
    Congregation Beth Yeshua image
This is a vibrant family-oriented congregation of Jews and converts who have come to believe and understand that Yeshua (whom the nations call Jesus) was indeed the Blessed and Chosen One) promised long ago to Eve after the fall, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and that all families in the earth be blessed as Abraham was promised because he too was willing to sacrifice the child of the promise when the Most High put himto the test. To those Jews who say Yeshua could not have been the Messiah I refer them to Rabbi Keturi, the most charismatic rabbi of our times in Jerusalem who at 108 years old left written instructions that Yehoshua was indeed the Messiah and that his Torah be followed to the t. His funeral was followed on foot by 400,000 Jews who revered his teaching during his lifetime and after, celebrities and politicians included including prime ministers. Could he also havebeen wrong? Great people. Sincere Jews. See for yourself. See more..

  15. 5.0 Generations House of Worship (1 review)
    - Truly a real church made of people
    Religious Sites
As a pittsburgher or yinzer as we are known, we travel out of the way for the best that the burgh has to offer. If you are looking to worship any sunday , or just want to experience a different church then find Generations House of Worship.. Anyone living in the tri county area, staying at a hotel or airbnb in downtown or oakland your only 20-25 minutes away. It's worth the drive. Services are Sunday 9am and also a second service at 11am. I have not been to church in years. Raised a catholic, but consider myself a christian. I found this church by accident and i drive a hour one way to attend the service. Let me start with the people. At Generations, the church is the people in a building. From the persons who greet you while parking, to the persons, at the door to the person serving coffee and bagels. They also have various activities for kids any age under supervision. You are made to feel they already know you. No judgement, No Discrimination and all are welcome to hear the word of god and the teachings of Jesus Christ along with being filled spiritually by the holy spirit. The service starts with a group of 5 musicians leading through song. Sometimes it psalms and on March 4th it was Alive by Hillserg, then Behold and finished with pour it out. One cannot help being moved. Then you meet Pastor Nick Chybrzynski, preaching the world of god. With excitement and enthusiasm, he leads the way to help you open your heart to god. The message is always on point. He tells you jesus will eventually get you to see that he found you. Showing that people are the church, Generations has tools to help a person find their center and god's word. They use Growth Tracks, Gen teams and Life Groups. I recommend that you come to service and enjoy the word of god at Generations House of Worship. Also they have a children's program and also have help for people in recovery. I highly recommend that you visit Generations. See more..

    - Beautiful Historic Church
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
Memorial Church of Our Father image
Memorial Church of Our Father is an Episcopal Church with a rich history. It was built in 1881 by the Fox Family. It is based on a church that Mrs. Fox remembered in England. The wooden ceiling is Gothic in nature and resembles the nave of a ship. We happened to stop at the church on a day during fall car tours of area. Members of the church were very accommodating in welcoming everyone and describing the history of the church. They were very friendly. We enjoyed meeting them! See more..
  18. 5.0 Saint Agnes Catholic Church (1 review)
    - 1793- Oldest Church in West Chester
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
St. Agnes has been a spiritual anchor in West Chester since 1793 when it was founded. And although other churches have sprung from her roots as greater West Chester grew, over 225 years later, St Agnes is still the only Catholic Church in the borough. The present church, the third on this site, was constructed of stone in 1927, and is beautifully and classically built in the cruciform style. Two noteworthy items about the church: The magnificent stained glass windows were created by "The First Lady of Stained Glass", German, Paula Himmelsbach Balano (1877- 1967). In addition, the massive wood beams soaring over the nave are a wonder of architecture. Whether you are a visitor to the historic borough of West Chester, a guest at the nearby Warner Hotel in town or new to the parish, Saint Agnes should be part of your experience. See more..
