Wonderful people, listen to the stories
I haven't been to Gettysburg in so many years. So much has changed...a completely new visitors center, museum, and movie. This trip we purchased all of the things: we bought tickets for the museum, the cyclorama, the movie, and a guided tour guide to drive our vehicle for 2 hours around the battlefield. We did all of that, my boys completed the junior ranger program, and then we had a picnic lunch by 2:30. The movie made me cry (maybe take a tissue). If you want to do Gettysburg cheaply...watch Gettysburg at home or read Killer Angels before you go. Stop at the visitor center and get a copy of the ranger programs for the day. They are free and you can drive around from one program to the other. Whatever you do, whether it is a ranger program or paid guided tour, listen to somebody that is excited about the park tell you about it! Our guide really made the battlefield come alive for us.

    Museum a Must See
The museum was very informative and helped to put a face to the information we obtained on the previous day’s bus tour of the battlefields. We began with the film and then went up to the area where the cyclorama is located; spectacular and very moving. The artifacts and displays take awhile to get thru so plan to spend several hours. We did not need to purchase tickets ahead of time as it was the off season but I would recommend it if visiting during the summer and fall if you plan to see the movie. You can select your time and plan your day around that.
