The Big Banana Fun Park image
In 1964 John Landi wanted something to make passing traffic stop at his road side banana stall. He had heard of a "Big Pineapple" in Hawaii and thought that something big would definitely stop traffic. With assistance of 1200 pounds and local engineer, Alan Chapman, The Big Banana could become a reality. Builder Alan Harvey started the construction in September 1964 and the biggest banana in the world and Australia's first "Big Thing" was officially opened on December 22 that year. The Big Banana now boasts the biggest Water Park between Sydney & the Gold Coast, an Ice Skating Rink, Toboggan Ride, "The World of Bananas" theatre and tour experience, state-of-the-art Laser Tag arena, 36 hole Mini Golf Course, the biggest Giant Slide in the country known as "The Racer", Go Bananas Fun Zone, 4D Ride Simulator, Gift Shop, Going Bananas Cafe, Candy Making Kitchen, Opal Centre, Cheesemaking Workshop and Steve McEwans Reptile World. 4. 4.5 Echo Point Lookout (1.688 reviews)
    - Majestic views
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts
    Echo Point Lookout image
We came here on two different days and had two totally different experiences and fortunately we stayed locally overnight. The fist day was rainy which resulted in a foggy cloudy day and we were literally up in the clouds and was mystical as we looked from the ledge. On the second day, the clouds cleared and the views were magnificent and majestic! Be wary that it’s paid meter parking around the area, so if you don’t want to pay, suggest being there after 5pm especially during the summer. See more..

  6. 4.5 Gan Gan Lookout (784 reviews)
    - Lovely Views over the Area
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Gan Gan Lookout image
We love going up to Gan Gan Lookout to take in the lovely views over the district. You really have views in all directions from the vast sand dunes to the South, the entrance to the vast waterway as well as to the west. Great place to watch the sunset but one of my favourite things to look at and photograph at the lookout are the wonderful Gymea Lillies which were in full bloom. The walk up to the top is easy and there is plenty of parking if people do the right thing. See more..
  7. 4.5 Line of Lode Miners Memorial (705 reviews)
    - Broken Hill Must Visit
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
Line of Lode Miners Memorial image
With the Line of Lode cafe closed the Memorial is now the focus for any visits to this BH landmark and it is definitely worth it. The Memorial strikes the right tone of commemoration whilst also offering visitors a great spot to look over BH from. The current work around the memorial might impede some access however at the end of the day this is must see. Oh, you can also go there at night which is a unique experience itself. See more..
  8. 4.0 The Clog Barn (575 reviews)
    - Go for the waffles!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    The Clog Barn image
Saw this driving past, close to the Big Banana. An enchanting miniature Dutch village, in fact miniatures of buildings from all over Holland. Well presented and maintained and inhabited by a lot of local wildlife too. We were in time for a clog making demonstration which was fascinating, and then had the most amazing waffles, ice cream and strawberries in the adjoining cafe for lunch. Perfect couple of hours. 9. 4.5 Leura Cascades (452 reviews)
    - A great walk in to a photogenic cascading waterfall
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Leura Cascades image
This cascading waterfall is a joy to visit, especially after there has been some local rainfall. We were lucky in that it had rained and the volume of water coming down improved the photo opportunities. Moderate walk in from the Leura end via the cliff walk which is through a fantastic protected forest. He walking path is well maintained but can get a little slippery after rain. A great way to spend a couple of hours and enjoy a rest walk in a pristine mountain environment. See more..

Glenda May has an amazing gift and ability to connect with spirits and the living world. My reading was so spot on and I really could feel the connection to my loved ones. I got all the answers I needed, not necessarily the ones I thought I'd get but I feel a lot lighter and content within myself. I would recommend her to anyone seeking advice or guidance. Breakwall Waking Path image
Apart from admiring the numerous painted rocks which we strolled by at leisure, past the adjacent van park with both grey nomads basking on sun loungers and families enjoying activities together. The skate bowls catered for all levels of ability and we watched a couple of teens take high air with scooter tricks. We stopped for a coffee at the shack (which was packing up at 2:30 pm and ummed and ahhed before consenting to take our order). To our delight a pair of dolphins bobbed by and a shag dried its wings as we consumed our beverages. Further down the breakwater in the cafe/restaurant precinct we savoured an early dinner at the Beach House restaurant and then with an ice cream in hand we watched a golden sunset behind the moored boats whilst listening to the raucous roosting of parrots in the park treetops. 14. 4.5 North Head (388 reviews)
    - I went to see North Head remnant bushland and was so happy it is in good hands.
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    North Head image
North Head is Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub (ESBS), which is a nationally and state-listed Endangered Ecological scrub. Because this land was first set up as a Quarantine Station to protect Sydney from the Spanish Flu in 1919, and later just before the onset of WW11, then became a military stronghold to protect and ward off the enemy. What is left is amazing remnant bush, these two factors have saved this part of North Head as a isolated beauty, just up the road from Manly. See more..
  15. 4.0 The Big Merino (380 reviews)
    - Pleasantly surprised. Well worth it with young kids.
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    The Big Merino image
I haven't been here for a very long time so I was filled with some trepidation about visiting something that was cool as a kid - I was worried it would be just a little boring for kids now... But I needed have not worried. When my daughter discovered she could get up inside the sheep and look out of his eye sockets, we had a winner! What was also interesting was the history that had been placed inside the sheep as well. I don't remember that being there when I was a kid but, then, I may not have cared. But our daughter wanted to know what it was all about so we took her through the wool/shearing displays and talked to her about it. The biggest surprise for us, though, was the gift shop. Usually, these tourist-type gift shops are incredibly expensive but we were completely taken aback by the reasonable prices and the range of items they carried. My daughter got herself a good-sized sheep and sheepdog and cost us less than $50 for them both. We were impressed. Certainly worth the trip. See more..
  16. 4.5 Cowra Prisoner of War Camp (379 reviews)
    - Important Site of Australias War History
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
Cowra Prisoner of War Camp image
Make sure you see the POW Hologram Theatre, located within the Cowra Visitor Information Centre, before you come to the POW camp. It tells the story of the Cowra Breakout and its aftermath from the perspective of a young woman, and really sets the scene. There is not much left on the site, but you experience an eeire feeling and the respect for what occured and those who died in the battle. Bring your walking shoes and water as it is very exposed and the points of interest are along a walking track dotted with ruins and signs explaining what occured. It is definately a place where all Australians should come to and reflect that this was the only time on Australia soil where shots were fired in combat. The brave men who left into action in the middle of the night only to be over run and killed are commendable. Lest we forget. See more..
  17. 4.5 V-Wall (378 reviews)

    V-Wall image
This is a perfect morning or sunset walkway. 19. 4.0 Big Prawn (322 reviews)
    - A classic - one of the bigger 'big' things on the Australian East Coast
    Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
    Big Prawn image
This prawn, unlike the Coffs big banana, the Caboolture big pineapple, the big Mango, the Dubbo big steer, and the pathetic Tweed/Kingscliffe big Avocado and even the Tamworth Big Guitar - is actually huge and an amazingly detailed work of metal art. Well worth the panoramic view of Bunnings just outside downtown Ballina. Go there. Ballina is a very very cool place - just don't tell any of the hipsters. See more..
  20. 4.0 Australian Standing Stones (277 reviews)
    - Stones that Stand in Time.
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Australian Standing Stones image
We visited the Australian Standing Stones earlier this month whilst at Minerama in Glen Innes. It was a cool wet day which was very reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands. The Grand kids were totally engrossed in trying to excise Excalibur from its bed of stone. Make sure you take the time to wander around the stones reading the various plaques on the ground which explain the position of the stones and their various meanings e.g Positioned with relevance to the Summer & Winter Solstice. The stones are positioned to show true North, South, East & West. There is also a Celtic Family Wall showing stones from many Celtic homelands that hold meaning to various Celtic pioneering families that settled in Australia. Well worth a visit & especially interesting is you have any Celtic heritage. See more..

    Lightning Ridge image
Lightning Ridge was not part of our original itinerary but so glad we decided to add it. We absolutely loved the place and the longer we stayed, the more we liked it. The people were wonderful too. We stayed at the Opal Caravan Park, which we highly recommend and did all our shopping at Khan's IGA, which among everything we bought, Khan's eye fillet was the absolute BEST we've ever tasted. It cooked up perfectly and just melted in the mouth. It was so good, we went back and bought more. Will certainly revisit Lightning Ridge and do all the things we didn't get time to do. See more..

  25. 4.5 Green Cape Lighthouse (178 reviews)
    - A rough Pacific outlook
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
    Green Cape Lighthouse image
Its a long graveled windy road. We did the drive under stormy conditions, and it was slippery in spots with less gravel and more soil, forming fine mud. The road was pretty even all the way and none too tough for a Sedan to handle. The afternoon was wet and dark and the journey to the lighthouse seemed to take for ever. Eventually when we reached, we couldn't stay long due to the weather, but it was amazing at the far end near the cliffs. The wind was strong enough to carry us off our feet, and looking out to the Pacific, it makes one wonder what it would have been like for a caretaker at a remote outpost as such. There's a toilet near the car park, check it out! See more..

We then drove around Mt Canobolas looking at all the different wineries ... which I think I will be returning to soon. Very soon we made a stop at a place called ‘The Pinnacle’. My friend in Terrigal took me to a couple of them close to where he lives (lucky man). The Skillion provides yet another opportunity to marvel at the majestic Pacific Ocean and look down on Terrigal beach. , What I like about many of the paths and coastal walkways is that while they are sometimes quite steep, there are convenient handrails and steps for the more adventurous parts of the way. I have been traveling regularly to the South Coast from Canberra ever since I could remember. There was always a little alcove as part of the Clyde Mountain. When I was about 10 or 11 someone placed a Pooh Bear in this alcove. It stayed there for many years. As it grew older and started to deteriorate, it was removed. By this stage it had unofficially become Pooh Bear’s corner. After it was removed others started placing Pooh Bears at the corner. They were also removed. Public outcry saw council erect a sign at Pooh Bears corner, which has now become a home for many Pooh Bears and other stuffed bears. As a kid I used to look for the Pooh bear, my kids always looked for other Pooh Bears, see how many there were, see what types there were, as we travelled down the Clyde Mountain. Now I have my grandchildren looking to see the Pooh Bears and other toys in the little alcove on the Clyde Mountain in a glorious spot officially called Pooh Bear’s Corner. See more..

Ben Chifley, a man from very humble beginnings, was Federal Treasurer during the second world war and architect of the post war reconstruction effort that left lasting legacies, such as the Australian National University, the Snowy Mountain Scheme, post-war industrialisation of the Australian economy and the immigration program that brought my family to Australia. A humble man, widely loved in his time, deserves to be honored and this, his home, is a tribute to his humility. Highly recommended. It illustrates what being an Australian truly means. See more..

We were married at this lookout in April 2018 - It is close to the centre of town and the views are simply stunning. We chose it for the semi-circular viewing area with plinth where we could hold the ceremony. There are picnic shelters, toilets, a path we used as the aisle and paved areas for seating & the registry table. To top it off there was plenty of parking. Our family & friends were very impressed, we had a lovely wedding and the photos were stunning. Also, the council staff could not have been more helpful with our enquiries and booking. See more..

We could drive right up to the top of the lookout and it provided great views of the surrounding areas in Cooma. Really enjoyed the Nanny goat sitting at the top of the lookout as a point of difference from many other lookouts in other places. See more..
