  3. 4.5 The Broken Hill Sculptures & Living Desert Sanctuary (1.065 reviews)
    - Must See When in Broken Hill
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas
The Broken Hill Sculptures & Living Desert Sanctuary image
This is a must do experience when you visit Broken Hill. The combination of the public art works and the sights to be seen when there, particularly at sunset, is fantastic. It's not that far out to the sculptures and for most people it's very accessible. My only caveat is that you should try and get there early so that parties of bogans with goon bag wine don't take over the area, adding their annoying voices and behaviour to what should be a place of quiet reflection. The Drip Gorge image
This walk was amazing. It’s a short walk, all our kids aged 3-8 did it no worries. The rocks are just spectacular. The area at the end of the walk near the drip was so engaging for our children we ended up staying for hours with them building rafts out of the recent flooding debris, digging in the sand, constructing things out of rocks and wood. A perfect natural playground for children to be free in and a wonderful place to see Gods beautiful creation. See more..

    North Head Sanctuary image
A nature refuge, bordered by dramatic cliffs, North Head Sanctuary, Manly, is located on the peninsula at the northern entrance to Sydney Harbour. This place holds significance to the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land, the Gayamagal people. As you explore the park’s coastal bushland, via dedicated walking and bike tracks, you’ll discover diverse flora and fauna, military fortifications from World War II and signs of the nation’s early quarantine practices. If you love animals but you don't like to see them in zoos, this working wildlife sanctuary is a wonderful place to visit. Only an hour north of Sydney city, you can meet kangaroos, emus and wallabies living free in 80 acres of Australian bush. Follow the walking tracks to visit ancient Aboriginal sites. Open every day from 9:30am to 5pm, or book an overnight ranger-led Wild Night Out. Fun and safe for children and adults alike. This is not an intense commercial experience with concrete paths and play areas. This is the real Australian bush. See more..
  14. 4.0 Birdland Animal Park (222 reviews)
    - Tranquil and rustic park - amazing birds
Nature & Wildlife Areas • Zoos
    Birdland Animal Park image
Visited today and had a great time. Absolutely loved all the parrots and native birds they had. All healthy and well looked after. They staff were very nice and friendly and helpful! For anyone reading the negative reviews previously, yes they are small (they aren't a zoo and have never advertised as one, majority of their birds and animals are injured wildlife), its very disappointing to see so many people leave negative reviews for such a lovely place especially after they have survived the bushfires and covid. Please go visit and support them instead of putting them down when they are already struggling. See more..
  15. 4.5 Lake Parramatta Reserve (222 reviews)
    - Parramatta Gem
Spent 2-3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Scenic Walking Areas
    Lake Parramatta Reserve image
While staying in Parramatta, I was taken to an unexpected gem in the middle of the city. Expansive hilly grassed areas rolled down to a pictuesque lake. Boats were available for hire the whole lake was surrounded by bush, and there is a walk through this around the lake. It is big enough to take about an hour and it is hilly enough to give one good exercise. Good walking shoes are recommended. The path is easily walked by able bodied people and children. In the picnic area there a good amenities and plenty of shelters to sit at. There is also a cafe, which is operational daily except on Good Friday, which is when I went. See more..

  18. 4.5 Korora Lookout (111 reviews)
    - Great upgrade to the view
Spent < 1 hour Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
    Korora Lookout image
Wow, haven't they done a good job upgrading this! This was always a "must visit" whenever friends came to visit my when I lived in Coffs. Revisiting the area we had to head up here and take a look. Since being away they have built the sky walk, taking you out beyond the tree line to get a better view. Better upgrades to the facilities and shelters and there is now "someone" running a tree top rope walk. Putting the rope walk to the side, you won't spend a great amount of time up here but it's a great spot from which to view the area. Not ideal of course for smaller kids because i) the barrier/railing is waist height so smaller kids would have difficulty getting a view ii) you won't want to lift them up to see the view (at least not while you are out on the sky walk!) 19. 4.5 Blues Point Reserve (109 reviews)
    - Views!
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Blues Point Reserve image
Blues Point Reserve is a terrific spot for a day out, or at least a couple of hours of carefree good time out! It's a good spot for a family with young children to play and a good area for a picnic. The views are wonderful of Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and much more. It's about ten to fifteen minutes walk from North Sydney train station. It's better to get the train, or a bus if you wish, rather than driving, as car parking is not really very easy to find. 20. 4.5 Pat Morton Lookout (106 reviews)
    - Panoramic views that will stay in the memory
Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Lookouts
    Pat Morton Lookout image
Pat Morton lookout gives a splendid, almost 270 degree view of the Pacific Ocean. It was an easy walk from the carpark climbing on well-built stairway to the upper plateau from where the views opened out. The wooden stairway provided quite easy access and the meadow like area on top of the cliff was fantastic for picnics. I was able to see the Skennars beach and Boulders beach on one direction and 7 mile beach on the other beautifully. See more..

  22. 4.5 Short Point Recreation Reserve (88 reviews)
    - plenty to experience
Spent 1-2 hours Beaches • Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Short Point Recreation Reserve image
We did the Mundooi walk across from the parking. We did the walk, and came back along the beach. The walk starts with a wade across Merimbual creek. We saw Rosellas, plenty of yellow tailed black Cockatoos and lucky enough to spot a curled up red belly black snake by the track, hidden away in the grass, and on our way back along the beach we came across a nesting shore bird. The up close and gliding image of the majestic black Cockatoos, with their shrill cry in the background over the bushes, and then going over a track mount with the beach coming into view, has been a memorable experience for me. Great camping spot, 15min walking distance from Mystic Beach and a bit longer to Farm Beach. Absolutely stunning views of both the ocean and the mountains. There is an easy 1.5km walking track that ends at the Farm Cafe which offers tasty beverages and the best views of the coastline and beaches. At the end of Mystic beach, you can see the Minnamurra River. Our kids enjoyed walking on the the sandbanks of the Minnamura River and playing with seagulls. The camp is kept clean (both the bathrooms and the kitchen area which has several electric barbecues, toasters, tea kettles and sinks) and grass well maintained. Customer service is pleasant and responsive and the manager Luke went out of his way to help us with our every need. See more..

    Bass Point Reserve image
We had read about Bass Point on Trip Advisor and decided to go for a drive out there. The drive through the bush land is lovely and the views of coast are fabulous. There is a nice memorial to lives lost by those saving the crew of the US tanker Boston, a ship which ran aground at dawn in 1943. This area has great diving and snorkeling opportunities and while we were there saw several people going diving. There are nice covered picnic tables and clean bush toilets. See more..
  30. 4.0 Mount Gibraltar Reserve (67 reviews)
    - Lovely relaxing drive or walk, just a lookout and nothing more
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Mount Gibraltar Reserve image
So many cars drive up here on a weekend, there aren't many parking spaces so I assume most only stop for a few minutes to look, but it's easy to walk there from Bowral. You can put Mount Gibraltar into Google Maps and just walk it. Yes, there's a fairly steep hill to climb, but it only takes half an hour or so to walk up there, and it's very rewarding. You can walk up there & down to Mittagong within 2 hours if you wish. You can see all of Bowral from the top, and if you walk around further you can see all of Mittagong. There's a basic toilet up there if you need it, but there's better public toilets in Mittagong and Bowral. See more..

    Booti Booti National Park image
Booti Booti National Park is a eight kilometre pennisula between the Pacific Ocean and Wallis Lake just south of the town of Forster, this is a very picturesque part of the New South Wale coastline. On our drive out of Bluey's Beach towards Forster we stopped off at Elizabeth Beach where we took a short walk along the Shelly Beach Trail, one of the many trails that can be found in the Booti Booti National Park. This trail was short, mostly shaded with glimpses of the ocean along the way. Shelly Beach is a pretty beach but to our surprise is a nudist beach. See more..

A beautiful place to visit on a nice day. Parking can be found at Putty Beach camping ground for $8 if you would like to do the coastal walk. We only did part of the walk as it goes all the way up to Macmasters beach. Even so, the short 2 hr walk we did was wonderful with the cliff boardwalk was the highlight. The beaches were not very clean due to the recent rain I presume but still amazing to see the waves crashing into the rock formations. Safe for kids to walk but do keep watch due to some cliff areas not being fenced off . Well worth the visit. See more..

. This isn'tyour average statue in the town square. High up on the top of the hill, a huge square column rises more than 30 metres above the ground. Bendeela Camping and Picnic Area image
A wonderful, low-priced, camp ground with lots of green space: however, at peak times it would be hectic and crowded. Amenities are good, there are garbage bins, the waterside location excellent. A booking is required: easily done online and the only fee is the modest booking fee itself. The main attraction here though - at least for us - are the wombats. Of an evening many can be sighted and they roam freely, undeterred by campers. Quite a thrill to have one wander past us at our camp table and through our camp site. See more..

We stopped off in South West Rocks, where we stopped for a short walk to admire the costal view. We continued along the tourist route and accidentally missed a turning and ended up at Arakoon National Park. We stopped in the small car park to admire the costal view. We were just turning the car round when we spotted some kangaroos, so we parked up to get a closer look. We walked on to the grassy area where they were resting in the shade, when we suddenly noticed there were loads of them. We walked slowly towards them and were able to get fairly close without them being worried about us. It was great to see them in the wild, so we were glad we took a wrong turn! See more..

    Cattai Wetlands image
The ast time we visited the area was suffering from one of the worst droughts in history. There was no water at all in the wetlands. The birds and the waterlilies were gone. Then we had the devastating fires at the end of 2019 and the Cattai Wetlands suffered a great deal of damage. We were driving past the other day and noticed the closed sign had been removed so we dropped in. There was a lot of evidence of the severe bush fires but to our amazement the water was back and so were the fields of waterlilies and the birdlife. So good. If anything it was a bit wet underfoot after all the recent rain. Only in Australia! See more..

This nature reserve was absolutely lovely, especially given that Warialda and districyt has enjoyed a huge amount of rain during Spring 2021. The tables and chairs are well maintained by the caretakers as were the toilets. The walk is an easy one whether over the suspension bridge and down to the 'beach' or up to the lookout. The huge boulders are magnificent. Photos don't really do them justice. Much birdlife and many butterfiles plus dragonflies evident. It was warm enough to swim but due to limited time at the attraction I did not. The horse that insisted on eating one of our tour participant's lunch had no doubt done this many times before. We all laughed. See more..

We did the Three Sisters walk, which starts near the caravan park. It is an quite an easy walk of about 20 minutes each way around the headland that offers excellent coastal views to the north (Cape Byron) and the south. Some signs along the track point out features (like the Three Sisters rocks) of significance to the local indigenous people. See more..

We've been here many times over the past 20 years - and I've never seen it look the way it does. The 2020 bushfire really changed the landscape, but luckily it is now starting to regrow. A tad on the expensive side when it comes to bush camping, but it does have a good amenities block with hot showers and real toilets, has communal barbecues, and even on a super busy weekend (Australia Day long weekend during the school holidays), we were able to find a shady place to set up camp and space ourselves from other groups. The river is the main attraction - bring an inflatable and you can spend all day swimming. See more..

Originally we wanted to camp by the lake. However, only the upper lakes (eg Pamamaroo) had water. The Cawndilla camp site was closed and Emu Lake Camping area booked out (fortunately for us as no water). So we took a spot by the river, and loved it. Enjoyed watching the pelicans patrol their patch of the river, and throwing in a line ourselves. We took the private site #27, while sites 32 and 11 looked pretty good (not too close to the road and near a toilet). Great to have a hot shower at the nearby shearer's quarters. Take time to inspect the large old woolshed. NB Another option is to free camp along the Pamamaroo Lake, however it was busy when we visited, so not much solitude. See more..

Unfortunately, the track into Glow Worm Glen and the viewing platform at the Glen were severely damaged during the fires of Summer 2019/2020. The track and platform are closed until further notice due to their condition. Please do not attempt to visit the Glen. The Bundanoon Community Association is working with National Parks and Wingecarribee Shire Council to prioritise repairs to the damaged track and platform. There is no timeline for this. If you are disappointed, please contact National Parks and Wildlife and Wingecarribee Shire Council and ask for updates. See more..

    - Great park and indigenous art.

This very nice outback park is around 60 km from Bourke, mostly on the sealed Kidman Way, the last bits are on good graded dirt road that even a conventional car can travel easily. The actual rock and the paintings are about a 10 minute easy walk through bush on a well-marked track from the car park. The caves and rock overhangs are fenced off understandably so that they are protected but well located and very good to see and contemplate the history of the land’s original inhabitants. You can easily take excellent photographs. It is safe to travel here and there are plenty of visitors so that were you to be unlucky to have car problems there are folk around to help out. See more..

    - Lovely Remnant of Rainforest

We just happened to come across this wonderful nature reserve on a drive. It is one of only 11 such remnants of rainforest remaining in the Far North Coast and has a wonderful diversity of rainforest species. We visited just after the rent rain event so the 300 metre boardwalk was strewn with branches and leaves and even a fallen tree. The walk was wonderful and we really like seeing the Strangler Figs and the liana vines and listening to the calls of so many birds. There is a nice grassy picnic area with tables, a bbq and a drop toilet. There is also an interesting information board. See more..
