Make sure you watch the movie The Dish before you go, especially if you have kids as it will give a god context about the history for them. The Dish is about 15 mins drive out of town heading North. It closes at 400pm so make sure you allow yourself plenty of time, lots to see. The 3D movies are at a cost of around $25 for a family of three, but really well worth it. They go into detail about what the purpose of the Dish is for, what it does etc, and a cool short movie about the outer galaxies..really awesome. The staff are very friendly and everything was covid safe, masks, sanitising etc. The centre had a lot of hands on activities that little kids would love. See more..

We operate night sky tours on all clear nights. Bookings are essential. The show starts with a tour of the evening sky with Donna the Astronomer, or one of her team, and then a number of bright and deep sky objects are observed with our outdoor telescopes and binoculars. For a small observatory this was amazing. We could have stayed all night. I think our host would have been quite happy to show us everything. You are shown a small video firstly then outside to see the stars and planets. You can take as much time as you like and don't feel pressured to move on too quickly. See more..
  9. 3.5 Darbys Falls Observatory (4 reviews)
    - Stars out but no visit possible
    Observatories & Planetariums
I'm sure this would be good - but - check carefully if planning a visit. We came to Cowra for the viewing and the stars were out but as it had been raining in the day it was too wet to have telescope out. Had called during the week and was told the only potential problem was cloud cover. Checked with BOM site and decided to take the gamble which paid off as sky was clear. Oh well. I'm sure it would be good! Night sky great out here... See more..
