The Cape Byron Lighthouse boasts stunning views of the ocean and coastline, making it a popular attraction for tourists and weekend getaways. A lighthouse tour is an excellent way to gain fascinating insights into the history and significance of the lighthouse. We took 12.30PM tour. The knowledgeable tour guide provided us information on the lighthouse's construction, Lighthouse beacon system, its history, its function in maritime navigation, and the surrounding natural environment and wildlife. Climbing to the top of the lighthouse during the tour offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the ocean and coastline. The lighthouse museum also showcases the area's history and the vital role that the lighthouse has played in ensuring mariners' safety for over a century. Overall, a visit to Cape Byron Lighthouse is a must-do experience for anyone visiting the area. See more..
  2. 4.5 Tacking Point Lighthouse (1.154 reviews)
    - Adventures on a windy day

    Tacking Point Lighthouse image
This little light house has a great view and the parking although small is well situated. The people visiting turn over pretty quickly so just be patient. The nearby beach is available to take photographs but is very dangerous -DON’T SWIM. On the day we went there was significant storm winds and would recommend holding onto your hat. Still worth the short climb up the stairs to the light house. See more..
  3. 4.5 Nelson Head Heritage Lighthouse and Reserve (522 reviews)
    - Superb food, cheerful and precise service

Thank goodness we'd booked! The cafe was full. Two of us chose the salmon and two the toastie, and we weren't disappointed. The wait staff were courteous and efficient. The view from the balcony across the waters of Port Stephens was memorable. I'd be back here in a flash, given the opportunity. One word of caution. Parking at the restaurant itself is limited, and since we'd arrived in 3 cars from different directions, we parked two in the street at the foot of the hill and drove up in one - to find the last vacant space in captivity as another diner drove away. It's quite a climb if there's no vacant space. See more..
  4. 4.5 Smoky Cape Lighthouse (509 reviews)
    - Well worth the climb

    Smoky Cape Lighthouse image
The 360-degree views from Smoky Cape Lighthouse are just sublime, well worth the steep walk up from the carpark. The lighthouse itself is also an impressive, imposing sight, designed by the renowned Colonial Architect James Barnett. Unfortunately, you cannot gain access to the interior. This is said to be a great place for whale watching. Unfortunately it was a bit early in the season for whale spotting when we visited, but I can say the local kangaroos were out in force. Very nonchalant and not put off by tourists. There are a couple of renovated lighthouse-keeper cottages onsite that can be rented. Didn't inquire but they looked a wonderful place to stay. See more..

It was ridiculously windy, which in a way made you appreciate even more how difficult life would have been on these coastal towns without all the luxuries we take for granted. It is now a beautiful area. Excellent parking facilities, clean and the best part...... the views!!! See more..
  6. 4.5 Barrenjoey Lighthouse (261 reviews)
    - It's a keeper

    Barrenjoey Lighthouse image
The walk up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse is a pleasure at any time of year, though after three visits now I think I prefer it in winter when the air is clean and crisp and the views up and down the coast are less likely to be hazy (actually, more like sublime). There are two routes to the top, one a bit gentler along a very well made track that is almost roadworthy and the other (the Smugglers track) much steeper and definitely more of a 'track'. One our last visit went up via the gentler track and down via the Smugglers. There had been some recent rain and the latter was quite slippery in parts - a walking pole definitely came in handy at those points. There is a bit of exploration to do in the vicinity of the lighthouse. I haven't been in the lighthouse but I understand it is open to visitors on Sundays only, though you also must book a tour with NSW National Parks. See more..

  8. 4.5 Green Cape Lighthouse (178 reviews)
    - A rough Pacific outlook
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
    Green Cape Lighthouse image
Its a long graveled windy road. We did the drive under stormy conditions, and it was slippery in spots with less gravel and more soil, forming fine mud. The road was pretty even all the way and none too tough for a Sedan to handle. The afternoon was wet and dark and the journey to the lighthouse seemed to take for ever. Eventually when we reached, we couldn't stay long due to the weather, but it was amazing at the far end near the cliffs. The wind was strong enough to carry us off our feet, and looking out to the Pacific, it makes one wonder what it would have been like for a caretaker at a remote outpost as such. There's a toilet near the car park, check it out! See more..
  9. 4.5 Seal Rocks Lighthouse (162 reviews)
    - Simply Stunning
    Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Lighthouses
    Seal Rocks Lighthouse image
This lighthouse is possibly the prettiest that I have seen. Though not very tall, it's position is commanding. The walk from the car park is not too long, about 1 klm and it is quite stunning. There is the rainforest walk that is flat but curvy and onto the slight incline to the cottages. The steepest part is the incline is to the Lighthouse it's self, but it is worth the effort. Whether you are there to see whales, lounge on the beach or even stay at one of the cottages, you will not be disappointed. The cottages are well presented and in keeping with the time period but with a modern luxurious twist. The manager of the premises is very helpful and has a very good eye for detail. It is quite simply stunning. See more..

  11. 4.0 Richmond River Lighthouse (24 reviews)
    - Spectacular views

    Richmond River Lighthouse image
An old lighthouse, that used to house a solitary Lighthouse Keeper. Now sadly fully mechanised and Electric. Still, it's not overtly obvious, how to get there so, more discreet, enviro-friendly signs would help. It's been nicely, brightly painted and looks great in photos. You can get a good view of the coast line. Not good for people with disabilities as the ground isn't too level. See more..
  12. 4.5 Clarence River Lighthouse (23 reviews)

    Clarence River Lighthouse image
Wonderful views of the coastline, Clarence River & the break wall. It’s sits on top of a grassy hill which would be perfect for a picnic. You can go down to the water’s edge. The lighthouse itself was built in the 1800’s. You can’t go inside but there are plaques to tell you more about it. There’s plenty of parking & only a short walk to the pub & eateries!! See more..

    Kiama Lighthouse image
There is something about light houses which have a romantic charm. The Kiama light is beautiful and stylish, and still today plays a vital role in the safety of mariners. It stands in a very commanding position surrounded by fabulous views. Great place to take a photo while also looking at the blowhole hoping that it thrusts its mighty stream of water skyward.
