4.5Fort Scratchley(797 reviews) - Our favourite attraction in Newcastle Monday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Historic Sites • Military Bases & Facilities • History Museums
Situated high above Nobby’s Beach with great views over Newcastle, this fort is well worth a visit. A tour of the tunnels is highly recommended. Prices for the tour of the tunnels are $13.50 for an adult with concession prices also available. Our guide was Norm and he did an excellent job making the tour informative and entertaining, thanks to his great sense of humour. He is 95 but you wouldn’t guess it as he still has the energy and enthusiasm of someone half his age. At 1pm each day you can watch the cannon be loaded and fired. We spent a good three hours there at least.See more..

4.0Old Wentworth Gaol(176 reviews) - A really worthwhile stop History Museums
This old gaol combines fascinating Australian history with a real spook factor. The history of the gaol is old and full of interesting stories. The complex has been really well maintained over the years so it is possible to get a good handle on what conditions must have been like. The displays are interesting and grounds are worthwhile. The people that run the gaol are good old 'outback' sorts who are friendly and like a good yarn. And I think it was only 6 or 7 dollars per adult entry which is a steel. If you're passing this way, and love a good history lesson, you'd be crazy not to spend an hour or two here.See more..

What a great attraction. The volunteers were all very knowledgeable and friendly. I took my 14yr old son and he loved it. We were particularly interested in the old homestead. Many things from the pioneer days are so well maintained that they are brought to life. Particularly the old school. We're not soldiery type people but we're impressed by the military display. We thoroughly recommend Inverell Pioneer Village. Congratulations to all the volunteers. Ten out of ten.See more..

An excellent museum stands out because of the quality of its artefacts, the accuracy of its information and the was both are presented. This museum gets it spot on. Mostly, regional museums get it wrong because the don’t curate hard enough and put too much on display.
