Walked down to Federal Falls from the Federal Falls campsite. We took the round trip route which is meant to be about 4km but felt like more! It’s a long way down and a long way up!! But worth it for a beautiful big waterfall at the bottom. After recent rain it was flowing fast. Hard work for kids (and adults) but doable. I wouldn’t do it with young kids. Back at the top we were rewarded by seeing a friendly mob of grey kangaroos at the campsite. See more..
  2. 4.0 Killalea State Park (70 reviews)

Great camping spot, 15min walking distance from Mystic Beach and a bit longer to Farm Beach. Absolutely stunning views of both the ocean and the mountains. There is an easy 1.5km walking track that ends at the Farm Cafe which offers tasty beverages and the best views of the coastline and beaches. At the end of Mystic beach, you can see the Minnamurra River. Our kids enjoyed walking on the the sandbanks of the Minnamura River and playing with seagulls. The camp is kept clean (both the bathrooms and the kitchen area which has several electric barbecues, toasters, tea kettles and sinks) and grass well maintained. Customer service is pleasant and responsive and the manager Luke went out of his way to help us with our every need. See more..

    - A must visit

Very enjoyable visit to the sculptures & the flora / fauna walk. Entrance fee is $6 pp, paypass. Drive up to the sculptures enables an easy walk around to explore. The day we visited was extremely hot so we minimised our walking as much as possible. Amazed at the real depth of this landscape, to immerse into it was incredible. The sculpture area is laden with beautiful rocks underfoot as well as the magnificent sculptures (of course!) & the views are incredible. We drove down to the picnic area & enjoyed our lunch in the shade. A flush toilet is nearby with nice with cool water to wash your hands too. The flora walk left me with an appreciation of the flora more than I would've thought. These plants have evolved to survive in the harshest of environments & to learn about them was extremely enjoyable. I loved our visit. Wear sturdy shoes, lots of water, a hat & enjoy... See more..

We decided to give the local pool a miss and head to bents basin for a swim.... We entered the park from the Silverdale end but have driven around the long way when we went a few years ago to camp for the long weekend..... access is great either way. Lots of families enjoying the sunshine... People had canoes, blow up boats and other inflatables. Shade is available if you take a short stroll. Toilets were clean. A really nice place to relax with your family. See more..

The tree is fine but the road to it is fun if you have a 4WD. The platform looks a bit old. The surrounding vegetation looks lush right now. See more..

The dam is now full of water so the lake is spectacular. We went for the day to have a BBQ as we were told there were picnic grounds and BBQs. One BBQ had no gas so we shared the BBQ with another group which was fun and had a chat. We went in two cars so had to pay $30 in entry which is a bit steep. I have booked a cabin in April 2023 for my birthday so will give a full review of cabins later. It is spacious and I look forward to bringing my telescope and checking out the night skies. See more..

This was really busy when I arrived, considering we were off the back of Covid... but it was school holidays. There were people wandering around enjoying the green space, others at tables having picnics, many had stopped to use the toilets, others stood next to their cars eating, children played in the nearby playground. It's actually nice to see life returning to normal for many. The area has points of interest... memorials and yarning circles...it's an incredible space on the side of Castlereagh River. Walking distance to the Main Street, this is an excellent place to go for a walk and have a break from driving. See more..

    Manning Entrance State Park image
A very pretty picnic park adjoining the mouth of the Manning River. The picnic area is well maintained with BBQs and tables. I did not see any toilets. The only negative, which you have to expect. is that the access is via an unsealed road. PS. The bush along the road is currently recovering from a bushfire. See more..

  12. 3.0 Cudgen Nature Reserve (2 reviews)
    - Cudgen - a peaceful spot
    Spent 2-3 hours State Parks
The main focus of this nature reserve is lovely Lake Cudgen. This is such a peaceful spot, with plenty of bird life. There is a small picnic area and also it is a very pleasant place for kayaking, including exploring the canal at one end and Cudgen Creek at the other end. The lake itself is quite shallow in places. I fell in at one point and found the water quite warm and it was easy to get back into the kayak because it was fairly shallow. There were only a few other kayakers on the lake, even though it was school holidays. See more..
