  1. 4.5 Korora Lookout (111 reviews)
    - Great upgrade to the view
Spent < 1 hour Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
    Korora Lookout image
Wow, haven't they done a good job upgrading this! This was always a "must visit" whenever friends came to visit my when I lived in Coffs. Revisiting the area we had to head up here and take a look. Since being away they have built the sky walk, taking you out beyond the tree line to get a better view. Better upgrades to the facilities and shelters and there is now "someone" running a tree top rope walk. Putting the rope walk to the side, you won't spend a great amount of time up here but it's a great spot from which to view the area. Not ideal of course for smaller kids because i) the barrier/railing is waist height so smaller kids would have difficulty getting a view ii) you won't want to lift them up to see the view (at least not while you are out on the sky walk!) 2. 4.5 Old Bottlebutt (51 reviews)
    - Worth a quick visit
Spent 2-3 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Forests
    Old Bottlebutt image
From Bago Rd the turnoff into Internal Break Rd is gravel which changes again to dirt. There are signs on Jimmy’s Rd which say 4WD only but there were 2WD cars in the car park when we arrived. It is only about 10mins to the little carpark which fits about 6 cars. There are drop toilets there but bring your own toilet paper. It’s a forest so bring the Aerogard as there are lots of mozzies. The loop track says 30mins but only took us about 15min (all in things). Any easy enough walk but for the elderly or those not steady on their feet it would be challenging. There are little footbridges over shallow creeks. The red walking trail markers are easy to follow. The tree is an unexpected spectacular sight only about 5-7 min from the carpark. See more..
  3. 4.5 Victoria Park Nature Reserve (34 reviews)
    - Lovely Remnant of Rainforest

    Victoria Park Nature Reserve image
We just happened to come across this wonderful nature reserve on a drive. It is one of only 11 such remnants of rainforest remaining in the Far North Coast and has a wonderful diversity of rainforest species. We visited just after the rent rain event so the 300 metre boardwalk was strewn with branches and leaves and even a fallen tree. The walk was wonderful and we really like seeing the Strangler Figs and the liana vines and listening to the calls of so many birds. There is a nice grassy picnic area with tables, a bbq and a drop toilet. There is also an interesting information board. See more..

  5. 4.5 Birdwood Gully Park (22 reviews)
    - Busy bush track
Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails • Forests
    Birdwood Gully Park image
This track, a short walk from Springwood station is very busy, far more so than those on the southern side of the station. It’s also easier and more accessible than other walks near Springwood but you still need to take care of the occasionally uneven ground and steps. The vegetation varies from dry to wet forest. 6. 4.5 Armidale Pine Forest (21 reviews)
    - Nice and peaceful, a few peaceful walking tracks
    Forests
    Armidale Pine Forest image
It's 5km from the visitors centre, and then it's about another 1 to 1.5km to the water. I thought it would be a good idea to walk the whole distance, so I was pretty tired by the time I got back to town. There is parking at the entrance though & the road is pretty empty. It's pleasant enough, very quiet and you'll likely see no one else around for the whole time you're there. It's not signposted, but if you walk straight ahead you'll reach a small creek and a nice table to rest on. I did see a toilet off in the distance on a side track, but don't count on it. See more..
  7. 4.5 Wedding Bells State Forest (14 reviews)
    - Wonderful waterfall walk
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent More than 3 hours Forests
    Wedding Bells State Forest image
A very under advertised waterfall walk that is easy for children, small creek crossings that are good for a paddle, waterholes for swimming and abundance of native flora, bird life and transition from ghostly flooded gum forest to rainforest, stag and elk horns bird nest ferns plus palm groves. It is a very pleasant walk. If walking after rain event make sure you spray your shoes with pest repellent as there can be a few leeches and this seems to deter them. We are locals and we do the walk often with the grandchildren they love the adventure. It is only 4km off the main road in Woolgoolga to the picnic area from which the walk commences. See more..

  9. 3.0 Forest of Tranquility (10 reviews)
    - Great idea , but it needs more public awareness
    Forests
    Forest of Tranquility image
This deserves to succeed - we need to have a greater understanding of our environment but it just seems to miss. It is very close to Sydney but if you didn't know about it, you would make no effort to find it. I've driven past it hundreds of times and often wondered what it was but the signs don't give much indication of what it is. Eventually made the effort and it was worth it and would hope others see the benefits of our rainforests. See more..
  10. 4.5 Bodalla Forest Rest Area (8 reviews)
    - Rest Area with Nice Forest Walk
Spent More than 3 hours Forests
    Bodalla Forest Rest Area image
A great spot for a family picnic or caravan/campervan overnighter in your travels, not far from the Princes Highway in Bodalla State Forest near Narooma. A shaded area is nestled under tall spotted gums, with a easy walking track around Lake Mummaga from which you may spot a variety or native animals and birds. A great rest area and pretty forest See more..
  11. 5.0 Illawarra Rhododendron Garden (7 reviews)
    - Wonderful nature!
Monday: Spent 2-3 hours Forests • Gardens
    Illawarra Rhododendron Garden image
The Illawarra Rhododendron Gardens are located below and within the magnificent Illawarra Escarpment in Parrish Ave, Mt Pleasant. The lower garden features a large lake, pavilions, and a large unique collection of rhododendrons, vireyas, camellias and many different companion plants in a setting of exotic and native trees. Spectacular locations for an outdoor birthday celebration and weddings. Seasonal variations and clever planting choices means that even outside peak flowering in Spring there is always something colourful to see. The upper rainforest area (behind the deer fence) houses huge figs, red cedars, native orchids and other significant rainforest vegetation only found on the Illawarra Escarpment. A haven for all types of wildlife, diverse bird life, frogs, water dragons, and echidnas are just a few of the regular visitors to the gardens. The gardens are a not for profit organization and are operated and maintained by a small group of volunteers. See more..
  12. 4.5 Middle Brother National Park (4 reviews)
    - Awesome Giants

    Middle Brother National Park image
We had friends visiting and decided to go to Middle Brother mountain and visit the Bird Tree. The road was a bit rough in places after the recent rains . If you were in a 2WD you could do it but just drive carefully. There is a picnic area near the car park. It is a short loop walk to Benaroon and the Bird Tree. Benaroon is the largest Blackbutt in Australia, while the Bird Tree is the largest by volume. It is amazing to think that these trees are over 300 years old and were well established when Captain Cook sailed past. It had been raining when we visited so the forest was lush. Lots of palm trees, mosses and lichens. Well worth a visit. The only thing it lacks is an information board telling you about the trees and their significance. See more..

  14. 4.5 South East Forests National Park (3 reviews)
    - Hidden gems
National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
We were in Bombala finding platypus so decided to do some forest walks at the same time. Stunning! We did 2 walks - the Nunnock swamp and the Myanbar gorge - both had just fantastic scenery and wildlife and we were the only people there. Both are a bit of a drive over some rough dirt roads but well worth it. See more..

  16. 5.0 Goolawah Regional Park (1 review)
    - Delicate Nobby
National Parks • Beaches • Forests
What a superb place. Isolated, pristine beach nicely sheltered by a headland/island was a perfect place to surf and swim in the ‘fast’ (current). The access road is diabolical, but worth persisting with while the local community debate councils plans to improve it and the goat track expands into surrounding bush. Proximity to Crescent Head and Limeburners Creek is great. Nice walks along the beach to the north and south. See more..
  17. 4.0 Yondell Street Fire Trail (1 review)
    - Great

    Yondell Street Fire Trail image
This is a 2 to 3 km Trail along the ridge. You do not go down into the gully. It’s a fairly wide and flat track, in a fairly dry area. It does have some steeper area As you get towards the end. There is a magnificent rocky outcrop with a great view across to the other gullies and ridges. We did it near sunset and so it was very very beautiful. An easy walk for kids and dogs and adults alike See more..
