  1. 4.5 Kiama Blowhole (1.488 reviews)
    - There she blows!
Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Geologic Formations
    Kiama Blowhole image
Accessible to all, with steps and a ramp, the blowhole and lookout are easily navigated and there are safety fences all around (unlike when we used to holiday here as kids in the late 70s and early 80s). The vista is amazing (especially prior to dusk) with the lighthouse and sunset to the west, and the contrast of the black and brown rocky outcrop against the deep blue of the ocean. You, or your kids can have a bit of a hike around the rocks, but be careful trying to cross to the small rock island peninsula (if the tide starts coming in, you might have to swim back across). There are the most beautiful rock pools just metres around to the northern side of the site. Most importantly, however, check the tides if you want to see the best sprays from the blowhole, high tide is best. See more..
  2. 4.0 Cathedral Rocks (97 reviews)
    - Great Views
    Geologic Formations
    Cathedral Rocks image
Just loved the view over the Cathedral Rocks. What a wonderful geological formation. We drove to the top and photographed down over the rock platform to the rocks. Would love to return at sunrise and take some photos. Am sure it would be quite spectacular. See more..
  3. 4.5 Bombo Headland (45 reviews)
    - Sensational
    Geologic Formations
    Bombo Headland image
Have visited Kiama on a few occasions and this was the first time I have visited Bombo Head. Was on the coastal walk when we came across this beautiful rock formation, made even more spectacular with the big swell. Go to the top of the cliff for great views and then walk down to ocean level to see the rock formations up close. A car park is at the start of the walk or it would be around 20 to 25 minutes to walk from the town. It's a must visit while you are visiting this beautiful coastal town of Kiama. See more..
  4. 4.5 Cranky Rock Nature Reserve (41 reviews)
    - A must-see brimful of nature
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks • Geologic Formations
    Cranky Rock Nature Reserve image
This nature reserve was absolutely lovely, especially given that Warialda and districyt has enjoyed a huge amount of rain during Spring 2021. The tables and chairs are well maintained by the caretakers as were the toilets. The walk is an easy one whether over the suspension bridge and down to the 'beach' or up to the lookout. The huge boulders are magnificent. Photos don't really do them justice. Much birdlife and many butterfiles plus dragonflies evident. It was warm enough to swim but due to limited time at the attraction I did not. The horse that insisted on eating one of our tour participant's lunch had no doubt done this many times before. We all laughed. See more..
  5. 4.5 Nimbin Rocks (41 reviews)
    - Ancient Nimbin Rocks
Spent < 1 hour Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks • Geologic Formations
    Nimbin Rocks image
These ancient rock formations are part of the vast Tweed caldera. They are of great significance to the indigenous Bundjalung people of this area and photograph beautifully; especially at sunset. I am lucky enough to have this as the view from my farm and I never tire of it as the faces and forms in the rocks constantly change with the light and bring me peace. They are awesome. See more..
  6. 4.5 Macquarie Pass National Park (19 reviews)

    Macquarie Pass National Park image
Absolutely stunning Great little walk for the family with a water fall at the end . Hiking level would be easy The kids enjoyed exploring the nature on the way to the falls . It was a bit cold the day we went and raining but wasn’t very slippery which was good See more..
  7. 4.5 Ferntree Gully (19 reviews)
    - A totally enjoyable walk
Spent More than 3 hours Canyons • Hiking Trails • Geologic Formations
    Ferntree Gully image
The two of us chose to do the top walk - the loop. From there we could look down into the gorge and see the wonderful rock formations resembling the Bungle Bungles. I took my Nordic poles which was probably a good idea. There are plenty of steps but otherwise it was an easy walk. See more..
  8. 3.0 Thunderbolts Rocks (14 reviews)
    - Surprisingly good car stop for kids under 14
Spent < 1 hour Geologic Formations
    Thunderbolts Rocks image
I have always driven past, meaning to stop to have a look but was deterred by the graffiti you can see from the road. Today we had the time and WOW it was actually so much fun we stayed an HOUR. I had two adventure prone boys with me - a 6 and 13 year old who had an absolute ball exploring the granite and climbing through all the nooks and crannies, even climbing to the top to wave at cars. Its certainly not pristine, there are a lot of old bottles and glass but if you have an active family or kids (and adults) who like to climb and squeeze through rocky places, play chase and hide it was cheap fun. There is a picnic table where you park but no toilets (nearest ones are Uralla Visitor Centre). See more..
  9. 4.5 Horse Head Rock (12 reviews)
    - Stunning view and a lovely walk
    Geologic Formations
    Horse Head Rock image
The walk is a nice easy to follow trail, but it does not tell you that the walk is Horsehead Rock!!! Drive to Camel Rock which is also nice, and then at the Northern end of the carpark is a track that leads off and up the hill. The walk is nice, relatively easy (if you are OK with hills). Horsehead Rock viewing platform is about 1.5km away, but well worth it. If you continue on for about another 0.5km there is another nice view over the lagoon and beach. Horsehead Rock is over 500 million years old and spectacular. Definitely a great walk and well worthwhile. See more..
  10. 2.5 Tocumwal Blowhole (12 reviews)
    - Not a notable stop
    Geologic Formations
    Tocumwal Blowhole image
We had visited Tocumwal last year while staying in a nearby town and went in search of the blowhole but never found it. We decided to give it another go this year and now we have seen it we will not need to return. The directions are really bad and the signage worse it was only with extreme good luck that we managed to find it and then when we did we were particularly underwhelmed. The blowhole has significance to our Indigenous population so I think if this natural phenomenon is listed on the attractions around Tocumwal then decisions need to be made about whether to develop the site or not. 12. 5.0 Kattang Nature Reserve (6 reviews)
    - Easy 3-4 kms return walk to Perpendicular Point
Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM National Parks • Hiking Trails • Geologic Formations
    Kattang Nature Reserve image
I would definitely recommend this varied walk through different varieties of vegetation with views that are spectacular at the end . There are also some good views along the way of the coastline (see my picture). It is not a difficult walk - we did it in 1 hour return. you would want to pick a clear day as the views will not be rewarding on a day with low clouds or drizzle. See more..
  13. 5.0 Waa Gorge (6 reviews)
    - Breathtaking hidden gem
Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails • Geologic Formations
    Waa Gorge image
Waa Gorge is an absolutely beautiful natural gorge at the northern-most point of Mt Kaputar national park. Take the Warialda Rd from Moree, then take the Terry Hie Hie turnoff and follow the signs to Waa Gorge. The route needs a 4WD, and goes through a number of paddocks, so make sure you open and close the gates. Once you arrive at the carpark, it's a 10 minute easy walk to the beautiful mil-bullah waterholes. To your left is a rough track up the hill -- follow this, then walk upstream along the creek until you reach the gorge (about 20 minutes total). The gorge is stunning and a great place for a swim or a picnic. See more..
  14. 4.5 Rocky Creek Glacial Area (5 reviews)
    - Picturesque area
Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water • Geologic Formations
    Rocky Creek Glacial Area image
Located just off the Bingara - Narrabri road and a short walk from the car park is a rocky creek with a large exposure of fluvio-glacial conglomerate, one of the best exposures of this rock type in Australia. For those not over-whelmed by the geology, the picturesque area and the tumbling waters offer a relaxing place to sit and contemplate, or even have a swim. See more..
  15. 4.5 Red Rock Headland (4 reviews)
    - Great Views Dark History
    Geologic Formations
    Red Rock Headland image
We were camping at the nearby caravan park and a friend and I went for a walk to the headland. The track from Little Beach was closed as the walkway had collapsed. We went up the stairs from the main beach and walked along a boardwalk to the top. Along the way we noticed a small memorial which told of a terrible incident back in the 1880’s where white men forced a large group of local Aborigines to jump to their death from the cliff face. To this day many Aboriginals will not visit this headland. Near this memorial there is a small track to the left which leads to a small lookout. This has a very pretty outlook over Little Beach. At the top of the headland there are wonderful 180 degree views from the North to the South. You can also see quite a number of the Solitary Islands. Worth a visit and also time for reflection of our sad cultural history. See more..
  16. 4.0 Gardens of Stone National Park (3 reviews)
    - Not Well Developed but Awesome Structures
National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Geologic Formations
Gardens of Stone National Park image
We drove through the Garden of Stone National Park on our way out to Glen Davis. The views you glimpse as you drive are spectacular, so much so, that I asked my husband to stop so I could take some photos of the dramatic rock formations. Later as we headed towards Lithgow we stopped off at Pearson's Lookout which gives you a great view over the national park and the Capertree Valley. See more..

  18. 5.0 Brisbane Water National Park (3 reviews)
    - Girrakool Loop Track
National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Geologic Formations
    Brisbane Water National Park image
We had a lovely time when we did the Girrakool Loop Walk. It is only a short walk, 2km, and an easy grade, suitable for most fitness levels. We started from the Eastern side of the car park, near the picnic area, going down past the big sandstone slab which has some Aboriginal carvings. As you go along just above the creek you can drop down to a few different lookouts. Some unfortunately need to be cleared a bit so you can actually see something. Really liked Illoura Lookout where the junction of the Piles and Leask Creek is located. You can get a great view of the small waterfall on Piles Creek if you walk down the Eastern side of Piles Creek Loop for a short distance. However, the best, in my opinion were the falls on Leask Creek. You can see them from a lookout or walk right down to them. The wildflowers were just coming out and were spectacular. We had a lovely lunch up in the Girrakool picnic area, under the close scrutiny of a Brush Turkey. See more..
  19. 4.5 Homestead Gorge (2 reviews)

    Geologic Formations

  20. 4.0 Biamanga National Park (1 review)
    - Drive through the bushfire devastation
National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Geologic Formations
    Biamanga National Park image
Driving along the well formed gravel road you really get to see the early 2020 bushfire devastation up close. It reallt\y helps you appreciate everything the area and its population went through during this time. Also the road to Mumbulla Creek Falls is closed to to damage from the fires. See more..
  21. 5.0 Monga National Park (1 review)
    - Nice area
National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Geologic Formations

  22. 5.0 Kooraban National Park (1 review)
    - Hidden tracks
National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Geologic Formations
The tracks here are a real hidden delight for 4WD or horse riding (we were 4WD). No one seems to come here (so bring a chain saw as there were lots of trees over the road). Some of the views were amazing into Wandella, also into Dignams Creek. Why is it so secret? See more..
  23. 5.0 Bynguano Range (1 review)
    - Longer hike worth the effort
    Geologic Formations
    Bynguano Range image
A hike that is for the more dedicated as it takes multiple hours. Bynguano Range walking track branches off the Homestead Gorge walking track and crosses over the rocky ridge of the Bynguano Range to the west of the Mutawintji National Park. The walk starts leisurely enough as it meanders between the craggy cliffs of Homestead Creek. Keep your eye out for impressive Aboriginal rock art at the Thaaklatijika overhang. Climbing steeply over the Bynguano Range, stop to view the spectacular maze of valleys and rugged gorges. Kangaroos and emus forage in the grassy woodland below, and perhaps you’ll glimpse the rare yellow-footed rock wallaby. See more..
  24. 5.0 Bynguano Range (1 review)
    - A great walk
    Geologic Formations
    Bynguano Range image
Fabulous scenery from riverbank lines with river red gums and grasses to high up on the range exposed rocky outcrops. Views are sensational of the gorges and rocky range. Lovely spots to stop for lunch at the top of the range or deep on the river bed. A relatively straight forward walk but has a few tricky spots with clambering over rocks, through narrow rock ledges and a rope assisted rock climb. You can do the shorter 7.5km walk or with side loops etc it’s about 10kms. Take plenty of water. It’s quite sun exposed. See more..
