    - The bikes make this such a unique place.
Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent More than 3 hours State Parks
    Mackinac Island State Park image
Michigan's first state park. This is Mackinac Island State Park, a landscape characterized by high limestone bluffs, beautiful vistas of sparkling water, vibrant forests, and mystical geological formations. With automobiles banned since 1898, here exists a quieter way of life away from interstate noise of cities. Over 80 percent of Mackinac Island is within Mackinac Island State Park—free of charge and open year round—where you’ll discover the true natural gems of Mackinac. Whether visiting this island parkland by foot, bike, horseback, or carriage, these many majestic geological wonders and unique historical monuments are visual treasures found only here—on the island sacred to the Ojibwa and Odawa Great Lakes Indian tribes. According to them, this is where life began. You’re invited to discover why. This is Mackinac. See more..

  4. 5.0 Ludington State Park (975 reviews)
    - Highly Recommend!
Sunday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM State Parks • Parks
    Ludington State Park image
The state park is the reason we choose Ludington for our vacations. We spent several days at the beach, but we walked about 1/2 mile north of the beach house to get a private, secluded alcove for ourselves. The view of the lake is magnificent. With the lake level rising, the amount of shoreline/beach space is rapidly decreasing. What used to be 50 feet of sand in alcoves is now 10 feet, so we had to walk a ways down to get comfy but it was worth it. On windy days, we walked many of the forest/island and skyline dune trails, including the inland trail to the lighthouse. We were amazed at the beauty and diversity of the nature included in the park. Everything was serene and private. Prices and food at the beach house were very reasonable. Entire facility was kept clean. Very friendly atmosphere. (last visit was July 2020 but we've gone here for many years.) See more..

    Warren Dunes State Park image
Quick spontaneous 3 hr road trip from central IL to relax on a beach. $10 to get in to the park. Hung out on the beach watching the waves roll in on a beautiful hot summer day. It wasn't too packed which made it comfortable. Plenty of parking available. Food truck on site or bring your own cooler. I climbed a 260 foot dune, felt good to reach the top and admire the view from above. You can also hike in the woods which is a whole different vibe than the beach front. See more..
  7. 4.5 Petoskey State Park (560 reviews)
    - Beautiful Spot for Petoskey and Charlevoix stone searching!
    State Parks
    Petoskey State Park image
This place is so beautiful there really are no words to describe it. From the stones piled up along the shoreline, to the white pines in the background, to the icy-cold waters of Lake Michigan, it really is such a wonderful place. We spent most of our time looking for Charlevoix and Petoskey stones. You could spend hours and hours looking for stones here. We would recommend that you bring some shoes for walking on the stones because doing it barefoot hurts! Crocs or flip-flops would be best! We ended up coming back a second time during our stay in Petoskey because this state park was so beautiful! On our second day, we had a picnic along the lake shore on a sand dune and even though it was a colder fall day, we still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Please be sure to stop here and soak up all the beauty! See more..
  8. 4.5 Grand Haven State Park (542 reviews)
    - Beautiful Beach!
    State Parks
    Grand Haven State Park image
I was trying to find a place to review the city beach specifically, but I can not, so I will leave my review here. We, like so many others, skipped the State Park, and drove just a minute down, and visited Grand Haven City Beach. There was plenty of parking and the beach was full, but not crowded. The beach is literally a few steps from the parking area. Aside from the frigid water, you would think you were in Florida. It was beautiful. The beach was really clean and a great place to spend a few hours. We were ready for a beach vacation and a six-hour drive sounded a lot more appealing than a fourteen-hour drive, so Michigan it was! We packed our cooler and some towels and camped out. We did get in the water a couple of times, but only briefly. We absolutely loved our trip to Grand Haven overall, so we will definitely keep it in mind for future trips! See more..

Wonderful place to camp , relax, hike, and swim in the beautiful Lake Michigan. The sites I’m the front half are definitely better for bigger rigs. The bathrooms are well kept and there are private showers rather than being directly with the toilets. Beautiful hikes that overlook Lake Michigan, access to beach, nice nature center. Just needs a nice camp store that sells souvenirs. Great place to go to year after year See more..

This park is famous because of the Big Spring. It's not the only attraction of this place. Especially during the fall, when colors are changing. you have great opportunity to see so many beautiful spots with crazy-beauty colors. You can take many trails through the woods and you will be surrounded by the nature. You have to pay the fee, but it's very "symbolic number". I recommend this park. RomanP See more..

  14. 4.5 Tawas Point State Park (210 reviews)
    - A very popular State Park. A Fritomann review.
Sunday: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM State Parks
    Tawas Point State Park image
This is the second time coming to Tawas Point. Last year we got totally washed out, not just rained out. It was bad enough to cancel our intended visit to the lighthouse. July 15, 2022 was totally opposite. Bright and sunny and kinda hot. On a Saturday the joint was packed. To get your Florida tagged car in, you have to get a pass, which costs $10.00 per vehicle for an entire day. Fritomann came solo this time, so you do the math. Around noon, parking was easy. There's a nice sand beach, dunes, a lighthouse of course, and beyond the lighthouse grounds, another beach popular with dogs and their hoomans. There is an enclosed pavilion with picnic tables, with bathrooms, cold running water to scoop and pour on your hot head. Bring your own camp chair and carry it with you if you think you might want to sit down somewhere in the shade. See more..

    State Parks • Parks
    Sterling State Park image
Bring blankets/sharp kitchen knife/ice/bath soap/towels/ washcloths/ice tea pitcher as these items are not included. There is simply a mattress with a light weight sheet. NOTE: uncomfortable beds. We rented cabin #8, which is a nice cabin. For the amount of money they are charging the beds should be more comfortable. We folded out the living room couch futon and found that to be acceptable for sleeping. Kids of course don't mind. The over all experience was good and the location was beautiful and less than 30 minutes to the Ford Mus/Greenville Villages, which we visited. The cabins are new and i suspect they will improve as times goes on. There is a fire pit at the cabin, a picnic table and an outside grill if you are prepared to use those, bring coals, and buy wood there on the camp grounds. Nice outside area for each cabin. The screened in porch was really nice, with one rocking chair and a double seat Adirondack style chair. Very nice. See more..

    - It's real wilderness

    Wilderness State Park image
I went with my son to explore this place. I was there over 20 years ago, so it was the right time to refresh my memory. I was expecting much more to walk. After roughly a mile, the ground has become softer and softer. We've ended up by the small pond without option for dry walk. I was prepared for that option. I've switched from hiking shoes to...Crocks. For the next 3 hours they were my only shoes. We were walking from bay to bay. We saw many birds, giant turtle, bald eagles, swan, cranes. We were alone there. I've loved to see many flowers. Everything was quiet, not disturbed by anyone. It was a great time spent with my son. I recommend this place. Take the sunscreen and drinking water. RomanP See more..

    - GeoDomes @Port Crescent
    State Parks
    Port Crescent State Park image
We stayed in one of the new geodomes at the state campground. We liked the location and that it was sound proof and air conditioned. We liked that we had a small fridge, microwave, fire pit and 4 chairs for by the fire. We could easily walk to the beach and spent most of our time there. Note: you do not have direct access to the beach from your site, but it’s a short walk. There are a few things that would made this a 5 star stay. Some shade - there are no trees near the domes - you are in the sun 100%. I recommend campers bring a canopy. The bathroom is quite a little jaunt away. There is a need for some hooks inside the domes to put wet towels or bags. Finally, although the description says it comes with 2 bunk beds- you must assemble them. The space is small after assembled. I would not recommend for more than 2 people or for a family with small children only. See more..

Perfect spot for our family to have a picnic and search for Petoskey stones. There were many in a 20 -yard stretch. Peaceful spot with few people and a gorgeous view of the lake. I am always happy to come back to this state park - well maintained grounds and bathhouses and the scenery is beautiful. Park rangers "patrol" often through the park. Quiet in the evening. Young State Park image
The site I had reserved, #32, ended up being kind of soggy, with standing water near the firepit, and the electrical hookup on the wrong side. We ended up moving to site #44. It’s in the middle of the campground, which is not ideal, but it was relatively dry. Young State Park is on the north shore of Lake Charlevoix, near Boyne City. There’s firewood for sale in the park, and a decent grocery store in Boyne City, as well as some good restaurants. Charlevoix is also within easy reach. See more..

    Fort Custer Recreation Area image
This is one of my favorite go-to spots when I want a quick get-away. Especially beautiful in the autumn, the campsites are spaced far apart for privacy and pet friendly. Most sites are heavily wooded with partial shade. Some sites are open with well trimmed grass. The showers are individual rooms and clean. There are three no-wake lakes with trails throughout the entire park for horseback riding, mountain bike riding or just plain hiking. Eagle Lake has a picnic area, pavilion and swimming beach. 27. 4.5 Maybury State Park (89 reviews)
    - Maybury State Park there is a trail for everybody.
    Spent 2-3 hours State Parks
    Maybury State Park image
Went to Maybury State Park for a walk with friends. Everyone seems to be keeping socially distant from one another. The colors are just starting to change. I never new there was a pond at the Park. So my friends and I parked at the Beck Rd entrance and went for a hike. So peaceful by the pond and walking under the trees. We saw a Beaver, Swans and some type of crane in the water. There are several decks looking over the water. At the parking lot I noticed there are a bathroom. Don't know if it was open or not. I was surprised to see some skateboarders in the park. There is no place to do tricks that I could see but I guess they just enjoyed going down the paved walkways. There are numerous trails for Mountain bikes, regular bikes, equestrian trails and paved, gravel and dirt paths. There is also an entrance with much bigger parking lots off of the 8 mile entrance. There are also shelters in the park for picnics. Definitely worth a visit to get some fresh air and exercise. See more..

North Higgins Lake State Park image
I’m looking for the CCC Museum we saw the road down to this lake which was very close to the entrance road so we stopped in quickly and boy I was amazed at how clean and clear and how shallow the water was seems like it went out probably at least 100 yards before it got deeper. I would like to come back and swim there some day although it’s close to two hours from our house in Grand Rapids area. We played golf town in Farwell at the Eagle Glen golf course and we were on our way up to Gaylord and we never seem to have time to stop at Higgins Lake State Park or Hartwick State Park and the CCC Museum so we got them all done See more..

    Grand Mere State Park image
We were looking for some peace and quiet and this place delivered. The path is paved until the dune climb. It's challenging but manageable at that point. The path dropped off into the water because of erosion so getting to the beach further down was a bit of a challenge. We wound up walking for about 2 hours and only saw a handful of people. Great beach for rock hunting. The only downside is there are only outhouses. See more..

    Otsego Lake State Park image
Nice big park with a lot of nice size lots, but be careful some of the lots are pretty sloped. The bathrooms could definitely use an upgrade they are old in the north loop but they were kept very clean. The dog beach is terrible. Literally even a beach just about 30-40 very steep stairs that go right to the water that is about two feet deep. It is hard to step down into it. The beaches themselves are very nice and spacious. All the lots seem very sandy and rocky and some of the lots have tons of tree roots throughout the whole lot. I would not be happy to get one of those. The staff seemed to do a great job keeping the park clean. The lake is huge and nice and clean. See more..

    P.H. Hoeft State Park image
Once we visited this park, we had officially visited all 5 Great Lakes... ...And this park immediately made Huron one of our favorites. The water is so pretty and clean! I grew up on Lake Erie and lived on Lake Ontario for a little while, so I’m not used to seeing such bright blue-green water at a Great Lake. (Erie & Ontario are very brown) Aside from a perfect Lake Huron experience, this is just a nice park in general. Plenty of places for kids to play (including playgrounds), hiking trails, and other activities. All the facilities are in acceptable conditions and there weren’t very many people there when we were, which made it feel like we had the park to ourselves (on a Sunday!)... There is a fee to get in. The ranger told us we could pay $9 and have access to ALL Michigan state parks, which of course we did. See more..
  35. 4.5 Yankee Springs Recreation Area State Park (75 reviews)
    - Good campground

Yankee Springs Recreation Area State Park image
Overall, this is a good place to camp. We reserved a spot ahead of time because we wanted to be as secluded as possible. A lot of the camp sites are really close together/on top of each other, so if you want a good site definitely book ahead of time. I knocked off 1 star because of how stinky the toilets were. There aren’t that many to choose from, either. The inside of the actual vault toilet building was clean, but SO stinky (and I have used many vault toilets over the years, this was probably the smelliest). One thing I liked was how many times we saw the park rangers checking out things. It was SO quiet at night, even on the fully booked weekend we stayed. Didn’t hear anyone making noise or partying. Very family friendly place to stay. Deep Lake was also clean and very pretty, but didn’t seem too good for fishing. We didn’t catch much at Deep Lake and neither did anyone else we talked to on the lake. Nice swimming beach a short drive away at the main Yankee Springs park. See more..

    Algonac State Park image
Well maintained park. Not much to do for young kids. Massive ships on St Clair River cool to watch. Campsites mostly open with a few trees. Electric hookup. Very pleasant staff, but not really knowledgable about surrounding area and things to do. Playground has older swings and slides. Not much of a beach, and "technically" not safe for swimming, but that didn't stop people. Can hear the shots from shooting range, but not too bad. Two areas for camping: by river and by ranges. "Wagon wheel" camping area is in more isolated and wooded area. Riverside has busy road between campground and river. One bathroom/shower area is older and needs a good power washing. Not fun when trying to bathe 18 month old with a large spider right there. Didn't see other newer bathroom - but the shower area: amazing. Super clean. New tiles. Could smell the wood for new bench and ceiling. See more..

I stayed here with my ten year old and five year old. We were in a tent. The campsites are quite small. People with large trailers may have a hard time getting into some of the sites. Our site was on the water, which was nice. There was enough room for our tent, an easy up over the picnic table and then the fire pit. The car had to be parallel parked along the road. The bathrooms were clean, the camp store has ice cream, ice, wood and all the other things you would expect a camp store to have. The beach is very nice and sandy. They also have kayak and canoe rentals. The Lake is not huge and it’s no wake so it’s perfect for kayaking. We fished right from our camp site and caught tons of fish! I will definitely return to this campground. See more..

I'm torn because I want this park to do well but I like the peace and quiet this place has to offer and don't want it to change. Stayed at campsite #13 right on Black Lake. Gorgoeus views everyday, swimming, kayaking, amazing starry night skies, peacefully setting without the crowds. Negatives - Black Lake can get very windy, had to take my awining down twice have to have a fire across the road three of 8 nights we stayed. However they do need to get the funding for a new bathroom house. Vault toilet is a little nasty but you get used to it. I will not only come back but I will stay on the water again despite the wind, although upper sites look nice as well just a little unlevel. Nice park with about 100 sites but it still feels pretty small. Lake view sites are good. Most of the sites are a pretty good size. Pit toilets were cleaned daily. Enjoyed hearing boats of all kinds and size play on the lake. See more..

I am lucky enough to be able to walk to from our sub, it is a peaceful place to hike, fish, bike, swim, have a picnic. There are 3 parts to bald mountain and none of them are connected, the entrance off lapeer road is where most people go and has all the activities. Bald mountain north is more rustic but offers similar activities minus the swimming, the third section of Bald Mountain had a model airplane field, I have not been to this section so I can’t comment on it. Bald mountain in general is a great place to spend a day, visit their website for activities at the various locations. See more..
