The Ford Piquette Avenue Plant image
Experience the Original Model T Factory Visiting the Piquette Avenue Ford Plant is a unique experience-it's the oldest auto plant open to the public anywhere in the world. Almost unchanged since Henry Ford's day, the plant is a three-story New England-style mill building. Each floor is divided into sections by the original metal fire doors, complete with the shadows of Henry Ford's "Positively NO Smoking" stencils. The old plank floors are worn from the 12,000 Model Ts built on them, so wear appropriate shoes for your visit. The plant is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a designated National Historic Landmark and a Michigan State Historic Site. Walk the worn wood floors and touch the brick walls where Henry Ford and his team of automotive pioneers developed the car that led to an automotive and social revolution. See Henry Ford's office as it was in 1908 when he was on the cusp of fame. And learn why it still matters today. 11. 4.5 Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum Inc. (353 reviews)
    - Fantastic...especially for ship geeks!
    Speciality Museums
Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum Inc. image
Absolutely wonderful time; no complaints whatsoever. The ship's history is very interesting and is told using photos and info signs throughout. Everything is well maintained, direction signs are easy to follow, and the people were all very friendly. Depending on if you read everything, plan on about an hour on board (for ship geeks, like me, a little longer). The interior is utilitarian, not luxurious (it's an icebreaker, not a cruise ship), so don't expect palatial. Admission is $12 per adult for the self-guided tour, which is a bargain. Overall, a great experience! See more..
  12. 4.5 USS Silversides Submarine Museum (340 reviews)
    - A neat submarine plus ship you can tour!!
Sunday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Speciality Museums
    USS Silversides Submarine Museum image
My wife and I had visited the Wisconsin Maritime Museum across Lake Michigan earlier in a month so the opportunity came to visit another submarine from WWII. Unlike the one in Wisconsin this one is can be toured at your own pace without having to worry about people on top of you. There’s a nice Museum with exhibits inside that’s worth seeing before you check out the boats. The submarine is the same model as the one in Wisconsin so it will look familiar if you’ve done that one. The cutter ship adjacent to the submarine is nice to explore to though they are in the middle of restoring it. Be forewarned that in the event of rain the exit hatch may be closed so you will have to come out the way you came in. Not a big deal though!! See more..

  16. 4.0 Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum (180 reviews)
    - Interesting visit
    Speciality Museums • Lighthouses
    Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum image
We enjoy lighthouse tours, and even in this pandemic where warnings are everywhere about not touching anything, Grand Traverse was not a disappointment. Only small groups can go through at one time, and everyone must be masked and gloved. The volunteers at the door provide plastic gloves and signs throughout warn people to keep masks and gloves on because failure to do so means shutting down and cleaning. This results in a three-day shut down, so if you visit, follow directions. Also, because the tower is so tight, it is impossible to go up inside, but the rooms are interesting to see. The fog horn building was open and an intern mans it, waiting to answer questions about the shipwreck artifacts or procedures used to explore shipwrecks. Again, you'll have to wait in line because only five are allowed in the building at one time. Views of the bay are beautiful. We saw three swans drifting by on our visit. See more..

Tribute to local wildlife and history; been here nearly 60 years - yet continually upgraded. Takes about 45 minutes to go through all the displays and listen to the recordings. Ziibiwing Center image
While I visited this place way before April of 2019 with a group of people from U of M - Flint, it was a very educational worthwhile experience. Everyone who works here is incredibly nice and informative. I regret that we didn't have time to visit on this trip that I just got home from visiting friends yesterday (March 2020,) because my boyfriend has never been there, but I wanted to take him badly. We just ran out of time. Take the time to visit. Their gift shop is even amazing. The displays are captivating, and if you have questions, they're quick to answer them. This is one of my favorite places to visit in Michigan. You will definitely learn things here that you haven't learned anywhere else.. unless you've paid for that knowledge in college with the right classes. Go if you have the chance! See more..

We drove from an hour away to see the Frida Kahlo's Garden exhibit, which we found compelling and well done; we loved the tie-in with school kids and their take on Friday Kahlo! Stayed for the very interesting Jackson county and city history galleries. Enjoyed the Never Enough Time exhibit of clocks of all shapes and sizes, as well as the Barns: Preserving Architectural Heritage exhibit and the Gallery of Wildlife Art. We loved the variety and scope of the temporary exhibits. We'll keep an eye on new exhibit announcements and look forward to a return visit. Michigan Firehouse Museum image
Have to start off by saying my kids are absolutely thrilled by fire trucks, ambulances, police cars etc., pretty much anything public safety related. I found this place via a website search of "Firetruck museums" on Google. Knowing we were going to be going back to the other side of the state soon to put it on our schedule of places to visit. Kids were over the moon and so were mom & dad once we arrived. Was very pleased firstly by the admission of a family of 4 could visit & spend 2 + hours looking around for under $20.00. The facility itself, had tons of things to see. Not only lots of fire vehicles but actual tools of the trade, historical items including parts of the original fire station the building is part of. Even had a play area in the basement (one of three full floors!) Needless to say if you have a "fire enthusiast" in your family young or old or happen to be one yourself I'd recommend a visit. Very neat collection of items of various sorts. See more..

We went to the Japanse Cultural Center last week for the Traditional Tea Ceremony. It was wonderful, there is a small garden area (mostly rock gardens) and it was very ccalming and beautiful. We learned during the Tea Ceremony that many of the rocks had been brought to the garden from Japan. Before the ceremony there was a short presentation about why/how the center came to be and how it was designed and built. The cerenony was interesting to watch and the sweets and tea we were given to eat/drink were tasty. See more..

The whole town has its own coolness. I made trips to this store once a day as a younger childer. Please visit this store if you come to beaver island. Gregg Pratt flushing mi. See more..

The museum is a place to explore, learn new things, and have fun! Did you know that play is vital to children’s social and emotional growth? Plus, it contributes to fine and gross motor development and body awareness. As PBS’s Mr. Rogers put it, “Play is really the work of childhood.” Every day, we work hard to provide a hands-on, “Play and Learn” environment that engages and motivates children to use their curiosity and creativity to learn about the wonders of our world. We rely on talented staff, dedicated volunteers and generous community support to make our mission a reality. Let’s learn about the museum! • Big and bold: Our bright and friendly building – formerly a car dealership! – has over 16,000 square feet of gallery space. In addition, we have classrooms that we use for field trips, meetings, and birthday parties; a gift shop focused on creativity and learning; and administrative offices. • Designed just for kids: We have 10 galleries designed specifically for guests age 10 and under. Each gallery was developed around Michigan school curriculum with input from children’s museum specialists, educators, and KIDS! • Play for all: From our adaptive play web tool Museum4Me to day camp scholarships to busing assistance, we want to minimize barriers to play. Do you have an idea of how to improve museum access? We are always learning and we would be happy to hear from you! We are privileged to serve a diverse community and we are excited for what the future will bring! Because, unlike traditional museums, the Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum is all about the future – future artists, future scientists, future engineers … future community members! See more..
