An amazing spot to canoe the Au Sable. We did two day trips. First day we opted for a shorter ride since we travelled in from out of town. Second day we enjoyed the king ride. This is just a great company. They have a Twitter feed for you to check weather conditions. We had originally scheduled for Saturday over 4th of July weekend. The Twitter feed said it might be a little rough, and we were debating since we had two 12 year olds and a 13 year old all with their own kayak. (No tandem kayaks for Turnip Rock trip.) While we were thinking about it, I got a text saying that if you were a beginner, you probably shouldn’t go out that day. I called, they canceled and helped us get rescheduled on Sunday. Because it was a holiday weekend, I couldn’t get all 6 of us rescheduled at the same time. But they said not to worry about that. When we showed up, even though our bookings were 30 minutes apart, they let us all go out at the early time. The guys down at the dock were helpful and gave us a quick little paddling lesson. Bruce was absolutely the best to work with. We took our Trail Life troop for an overnight canoe trek to practice for a 4-day canoe trek in Kentucky. Bruce stayed late for our late arrivals, got us fitted up and got us on the river. We had several youths who forgot to sign the waiver and Bruce took care of that as well. The facilities have easy access from Wixom Rd. and are a perfect distance between the Proud Lake State Recreation Area and Kensington Metroparks Group Campgrounds.See more..

Was not sure what to expect, but rafting was recommended. We had six on a raft, including a senior and two young teens. The river is fairly easy going but needs at least two strong adults to navigate the twists and fallen trees. The water was very low on our trip and was had to get out and drag the raft off pebble banks a few times. Saw lots of wide life and super huge trout that the river is famous for. Needs a sign along the river to let you know how far you are to the next landing. We stopped for a rest only to find out the landing was on the next bend!!! We rented a double kayak and took the shorter trip down the manistee river. Highly recommend. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We were taken upriver and paddled back to their business. The river is scenic and calm. Unfortunately we got caught in a downpour and spent some time out of the kayak waiting for the storm to pass. But, you can’t entirely predict the weather. They offer overnight trips and we may do that in the future. I would rent from them again.See more..

This was our first time renting a boat and traveling the chain of lakes and we loved it! The 5 of us (2 adults, 3 teens) had plenty of room on the 22' boat which looked brand new. Traveling through the lakes we saw turtles, muskrats and even saw a hawk snatch a fish out of the water. Lunch at Zukey Lake Tavern was easy to pick up and enjoy on the boat. We stopped at several sandbars to swim. Klave's did a great job explaining the boat and the map. We'll be back!See more..

A beautiful, scenic river---a little fast & exciting to start, then slower and more relaxing toward the end. Heard about this place while camping in Manistee, we took one look on our way home and immediately booked the next 4 weekends. Josh and Tess were so friendly. They made us feel like family. The river is just amazing and they sit on so much of it. Normally we would have the camping gear packed up after Labor Day, but this place had us camping into the middle of October. We fished for Salmon, got to watch the fall season unfold and even got to partake in their Halloween festivities. The campground was easy to find and getting checked in was a breeze! My wife and I stayed in a cabin and were quite pleased. It was in great condition and the mattresses were comfortable. Although it was hot outside the cross breeze inside the cabin was refreshing. The restrooms/showers were clean and BIG. Someone could arrive totally unprepared to camp and canoe/kayak and find everything needed inside of the camp store. Docking in the water at the campground was perfect. The only thing better than the details above are the owners. Friendly. Hospitable. Helpful. We will certainly visit again with a larger group to share the experience with others.See more..

The staff was nice. We were told to kayak the inland area due to heavy boat traffic, however the inland lake area is covered with lily pads and weeds. Was very hard to push through it was so thick. We took our chance and kayaked to the beach, heavier traffic for sure but less lake sludge. The kayaks were sub par, they are the very cheap ones with drain holes in the bottom. We sat in lake sludge our entire trip, was very concerning the amount of garbage cans and debris in the lake as well as the foam, looked like pollution coming up into the kayak while we were paddling. We did ask for different kayaks, we are used to not having to sit in the water while kayaking, and was told that this is standard for kayaking.See more..

I would highly recommend this for an up north adventure. Lots of different drop off/pick up locations to choose from. You can do a 4 hour rental or an 8 hour rental, single or double kayaks. The best thing about it is the convenience with using their rentals, and especially the fact that they will meet you at your car at the end point and drive you to your start point. That way you can just leave when you are finished. Awesome experience, we stopped at all the "public access" areas we spotted along our ride. Very personable and helpful, recommended a route for us.
