While this cemetery has many older sites with pets, it has been re-established as a war dog cemetery and caters to service dogs. The site has been updated, headstones exposed and new improvements installed, including dedicated parlking. I highly recommend a visit as the displays are educational and the experience is interesting. There are only 1 or 2 of these war dog cemeteries in the US. See more..

The old cemetery sits on the side of the hill. The markers are huge, and they all survived the tornado. No "ghost stories" here, that I know of! See more..

I take my son to oak grove often for evening walks. It's peaceful and quiet. It gives us a chance to unwind and discover some local history. Several great photo ops too! I especially love it in the fall. See more..
  5. 5.0 Lakeside Cemetery (4 reviews)
    - Unusual but interesting field trip

    Lakeside Cemetery image
We read about this in one of the community newspapers and decided it would be a fun short road trip. We enjoyed it enough that we dragged another couple back a week later. There are probably 20 or so magicians who have chosen to be buried in the newer part of this large cemetery (facing from road it is to the right). It's obviously free and some of the old graves are also interesting, but it is a fun 20 - 30 minute stop before going to Abbott's Magic in town. See more..

What a very cool way to learn about the past in a community - - take a hike through the historical cemetery. It is a beautiful place - - visually, near the shores of Lake Michigan - - huge, old trees, plenty of white tail deer - - watch the local calendar because you can sometimes find interpretive walks with a local expert. A country cemetery which looks like it is taken care of. There was no sign with the cemetery name on it. Not large but with a number of different family names on the Tombstones. It appears to be in Tompkin, Michigan. See more..

Cole Cemetery is an old cemetery. I had only a few minutes to look around. Many tombstones were knocked over and some broken. Others were unreadable. I did note some with date of death in the 1850s. I hope the course is given some help. See more..

    Joshua Simmons II Grave image
Joshua Simmons served several years fighting for what is now the United States. He was a Revolutionary soldier and moved to Michigan to join his youngest son. He died in Eagle and is buried on what was his son's property and is now the North Eagle Cemetery. I am pleased his grave is preserved and noted for future generations. See more..
