We saw a sign that sent us to this place while we travelled around the great lakes. This controlled access park is free admission and the lock viewing deck is good. The Historic Shipwrecks building is super informative and free to walk through ($1 donation appreciated). The washrooms are clean. Along with a visit to the shops and pubs in the area and a person could spend a whole day here!See more..

4.5Front Street(932 reviews) - A great way to spend a leisurely afternoon!! Points of Interest & Landmarks
We thoroughly enjoyed walking about downtown Traverse City on a sunny Saturday afternoon, enjoying the murals and historical architecture, doing some people watching, popping into the small boutiques, grabbing a bite here, a drink there. You can move at your own pace, spend a little or a lot of time and/or money. It's up to you!! And from Front Street, you can walk down to the waterfront parks and sit and enjoy the sunshine and the water, or you can walk to see the beautiful Victorian houses of Sixth Street or the Purple House on State Street, among other historic homes. Note that some establishments still require masks; it wasn't a problem for us.See more..
4.5Mission Point Lighthouse(916 reviews) - Nice drive to see the lighthouse Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
Mission Point Lighthouse has been a Traverse City and Old Mission Peninsula icon for decades. Located at the north end of a picturesque drive along M-37 through cherry orchards and vineyards, Mission Point Lighthouse stands as a classic piece of Michigan history. While it no longer guides mariners through West Grand Traverse Bay as it did from September 10, 1870 until it was decommissioned in 1933, Mission Point Lighthouse now offers visitors a peek into what life was like around the turn of the century for lighthouse keepers and for others who lived and worked in the area at the time. Self-guided tours of the lighthouse museum for daily visitors in May-October, and weekends in November.See more..

The Fisher Building is a piece of art to see in Detroit. We took a free tour of the best parts of the building by Pure Detroit. Just go to the Fisher Building site to sign up for the tour. The building has an amazing history. Our guide, Jacob, really has a passion for this building. You could see it in his presentation. So nice to see young people appreciate the history around them and wanting to share it with others. The story about the theater and it’s history of change was really unique. Tour took about an hour and well worth the time.See more..
4.5Campus Martius Park(315 reviews) - A View of the Future Monday: 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM Neighborhoods • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
Campus Martius Park is a great place to visit whether during a festival or event or just to take time and have lunch or sit with friends and talk. We especially like going ice skating there during the winter months. Whether during the day or in the evening the place is decorated in a lively and holiday fashion. The lines to rent ice skates usually move along quickly. It's a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise at the same time. From a historical point of view this crossroads has had its share of historical events which include the mustering of Union Troops, having them sign up and ship off to the east during the Civil War. There is a large monument commemorating the end of the Civil War and celebrating the heroes in all the departments of the military. It is quite impressive and should not be missed. It is one of those places that gives an immediate connection to the past while making room for a view of the future.See more..

5.0Whirlpool Compass Fountain(202 reviews) - The Kids' Favorite Part of St Joseph Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Parks
My kids loved this splash pad. It is pretty big, close to the beach, and got them soaked! Their favorite part was when the fountains would go down, and the cannons would begin to shoot water into the center. All the kids (and even the adults) run into the center to get ready for that. I got to hang out on a bench and watch the soaked chaos. As others have stated, there is no shade to be found, which is the only drawback. So if you are there on a sunny day, put on the sunscreen and bring plenty of water!See more..
4.5Lumberman's Monument(176 reviews) - Nice monument and informational stop Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues

4.0Fish Ladder(167 reviews) - Fish Ladder Park Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nice spot for a walk about. Walking around the river is easy with the walk path that circles through the bridges and comes back around. The ladder isn’t your usual “ladder” but if your patient you will spot fish climbing upriver. Because I came during the chilly month of March, I didn’t get to partake in any fishing. But the river is full of brave souls who are fishing in the chilly waters. I seen many young lads catching big salmon! Great sight to see! There is one sketchy part of the area, the underpass of the bridges have bums living in it. So walking near these areas will result in being begged or just watched with leery looks. Over all nice area to stretch!See more..

We have been looking for good places to observe the sunset in northern Michigan lately and we added this location to the bucket list. I am glad we did! It wasn’t very crowded on a Wednesday evening. We enjoyed a stroll on the beach, and walked down the north pier which led to the lighthouse. It was interesting to see up close, other than the graffiti on the walls. The scenery was spectacular in every direction, and the lighthouse itself made a great companion to the sun as it was setting. I definitely recommend checking this place out!See more..
Absolutely beautiful views! Get to the beach off 5th street before 11am and find plenty of parking. The lighthouse is painted perfectly and the pier is nice and wide to stroll on. **beware of some wet spots that can be slippery probably from algae growth** Better than most for families with small children, or strollers, etc. The 5th Street beach had a concession stand that opened around noon, and clean bathrooms. 4.5Mission Point Lighthouse(131 reviews) - Wonderful place Points of Interest & Landmarks • History Museums
We were there on a hot July day. The lighthouse was closed to visitors due to Covid, but we were able to wander around the outside and enjoy the views of the lake. 5.040 Mile Point Lighthouse(120 reviews) - Working 4th order fresnel lens! Monday: Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
Don’t miss this lighthouse and park. The grounds are beautiful and consist of lighthouse keeper’s house (museum), tower to the lens, gift shop, pilot house of a Great Lakes Freighter, fog signal building and a shipwreck from 1905. The buildings and gift shop are staffed by wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly volunteers. The 4th order fresnel lens is still owned by the Coast Guard and is the only one still working on Lake Huron. Just 53 steps to the top! Since this is a county park you can swim, kayak and have a picnic. It is possible to kayak to the wreck of the Fay or even scuba dive/snorkel as it is about 600ft from shore. Part of it is on shore. The gift shop has nice things but no food or drinks so bring water and food. Admission is free but donations are welcome. A great place to visit!See more..

4.5Sturgeon point lighthouse(71 reviews) - Sturgeon Point lighthouse park is a hidden gem. A Fritomann review. Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
We came on a Saturday afternoon, coming from the Tawas Point lighthouse on the way back to our hotel in Alpena. Just follow the signs, and call ahead to ensure they will be open. Sturgeon lighthouse is being restored inside the residence, so on this day no one could go upstairs to see the old living quarters. But we went right up to the top of the tower and there was a young woman waiting there to answer questions etc. She was a lot of fun in her serious demeanor. We hung around for awhile, then we left to make way for a young family that was waiting, we could hear their excitement all the way down there. I got my passport stamped and even bought a Sturgeon Point tee shirt. So this was Fritomann's last lighthouse stop on a whirlwind tour of Lake Huron attractions in July, 2022. Full speed ahead captain.See more..

My third trip to Frankenmuth was the first time I was aware that the town had a covered bridge, when I saw a picture of it in a souvenir shop. I asked where it was located and made a point of stopping to see it. I was slightly disappointed to discover that the bridge was built so recently, in 1979, because I was anticipating an antique bridge with a lot of history . . . possibly having serviced Frankenmuth's early settlers. Only eight more years until it does qualify as antique though. And the bridge makes a quaint addition to the town's Bavarian theme. The vehicle lane is very narrow, but two smaller cars can pass carefully. There's a parking lot (free parking) on a hill above the bridge on the east side of the river in case you want to stop to inspect the structure close-up. And there's a separate walking lane for pedestrians where you can stop and gawk at the river in both directions.See more..
4.5Glen Haven Historical Village(68 reviews) - Great Beach with some History Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas • Scenic Walking Areas
A historic blacksmith shop, a coast guard history display, and a beach pus one or two other old buildings. The blacksmith shop is a neat display of how it was done a hundred years ago or more. There is a coast guard history display in the old canary building. This is neat, but kinda small and limited! The beach is the real stunner! It seems to go on forever in both directions. The view is truly great. You can see Leelanau in the distance and the view if Lake Michigan can take your breath away. The sand is pristine even with the crowds. They need more benches, more parking and a much bigger restroom. Overall though 5 stars. I highly recommend visiting if in the area. So obviously I would return!See more..

The Felt Mansion was the summer home of millionaire Dorr Felt and his wife, Agnes Felt. Dorr purchased 750 acres of prime Lake Michigan coastal land in 1919. Construction began on the 17,000 square foot Felt Mansion in 1925 and the family moved into the mansion in 1928. Over the years, the family moved out, and the building and grounds were used for other purposes. During this time, the estate fell into disrepair. In 2002 a local effort was initiated to return the state to its former glory. Today, the estate is a look into the life of a very wealthy 1920’s family. If you are planning on a trip to Rockford, Michigan do not miss out the quaint downtown area by the Riverwalk, particularly during the fall. The colors were absolutely beautiful and although there were people walking around, it was so peaceful. Sit and have a cup of coffee while watching local fly fishermen. The downtown area has several local shops and restaurants with tastes for all. If it's too late for that cup of coffee, stop in and have a cold local brew. People are friendly everywhere. Downtown features a candy store that covers candy past and present, or if you are hungry for ice cream, they have that too. Or if you are looking for a unique toy, stop in at the local toy store. 4.5Croswell Swinging Bridge(30 reviews) - Beautiful scenery...and a nice place to stop and linger!! Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
On our way back home from a day in MIchigan's Thumb, we stopped by the Swinging Bridge in Croswell. It had been years since our last visit. And this one did not disappoint! Walking over the bridge is a bit of a thrill, especially when others are on the bridge and it's swinging ever so slightly!! On this perfect June evening about 7pm, as the sun was starting to go down behind the tall trees, the sunlight on the water, along with the beautiful blue sky reflecting up at us, and some water lily pads beneath us near the shoreline made for the most beautiful scene, reminiscent of Monet's water lilies paintings! Definitely a nice place to stop and linger.... Bring out your lawn chairs and a picnic blanket to relax and enjoy some snacks. Plenty of room for the family to play in the park too!!See more..
4.0Hamtramck Disneyland(29 reviews) - A totally unique experience! Points of Interest & Landmarks

4.5Harbor Beach Lighthouse(22 reviews) - “A Nice Trip Back in History” Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
July 18, 2015 marked the 130th Birthday of the Harbor Beach Lighthouse and the day was filled with celebratory events. Tours of the lighthouse through out the day, a quilt show, guest speakers, a parade, musical entertainment and a wonderful dinner to cap off the celebration. A tour of the lighthouse begins with a 10 minute water trip by launch from the marina which, as you approach by water you get to appreciate the value of the location and position of the 130 year old structure. It is fun to climb the round steps and view the living quarters of the Keeper and his assistants, & also to climb to the top and stand on the Gallery to appreciate the wonderful views. As you wander through the lighthouse, you will notice even the doors to the living quarters were “rounded” to fit the “rounded” walls. 4.5Bailey School(20 reviews) - A family favorite, year after year. Points of Interest & Landmarks
We love stepping back in time and visiting the Bailey School. If you're a history buff, this place is for you. If the school house is open, there is so much to see and read. The walls are lined with old class photos and other memorabilia. Each desk has a text book from the time period. If you look close, some of the student names in text books match the names on the class photos. It was fun to actually read text books from that time period. Count on spending less than an hour. It's free but they accept donations in a non pushy way. Continue on the path to the lighthouse and Lake Huron. Just be careful because there is poison ivy growing near the path. Stay on the path and you should be fine. You can also walk through the parking lot to continue on to the lighthouse. Love this place!See more..
