  1. 4.5 Glen Haven Historical Village (68 reviews)
    - Great Beach with some History
Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas • Scenic Walking Areas
    Glen Haven Historical Village image
A historic blacksmith shop, a coast guard history display, and a beach pus one or two other old buildings. The blacksmith shop is a neat display of how it was done a hundred years ago or more. There is a coast guard history display in the old canary building. This is neat, but kinda small and limited! The beach is the real stunner! It seems to go on forever in both directions. The view is truly great. You can see Leelanau in the distance and the view if Lake Michigan can take your breath away. The sand is pristine even with the crowds. They need more benches, more parking and a much bigger restroom. Overall though 5 stars. I highly recommend visiting if in the area. So obviously I would return! See more..
  2. 4.5 Nichols Arboretum (64 reviews)
    - Well worth the visit

There is free parking on the streets in the Washington Heights area. The entrance is very close, the trails are wide and well maintained. This spot is hilly with lots of runners, joggers and foot traffic. You have many options to diverge off the stone paths, which meander in the woods and not as popular with foot traffic, so nice a quiet. Great spot for lots of landscape and flower photography, as well as grads and brides to be. See more..

If you are planning on a trip to Rockford, Michigan do not miss out the quaint downtown area by the Riverwalk, particularly during the fall. The colors were absolutely beautiful and although there were people walking around, it was so peaceful. Sit and have a cup of coffee while watching local fly fishermen. The downtown area has several local shops and restaurants with tastes for all. If it's too late for that cup of coffee, stop in and have a cold local brew. People are friendly everywhere. Downtown features a candy store that covers candy past and present, or if you are hungry for ice cream, they have that too. Or if you are looking for a unique toy, stop in at the local toy store. I hope my next visit will be during the holidays. See more..
  4. 4.5 Lexington State Harbor (39 reviews)
    - Decent Beach

Growing up near here, I came to this beach numerous times as a child. It's always fun to walk on the boardwalk. When I came back here for the weekend and my husband told me he needed to burn off his covid-15, I took him for a stroll here. We went here early in the morning to avoid any crowds. The water was way too cold for any swimming. There is plenty of parking spots. They have a playground and picnic tables. The beach is rather small, in my opinion, for the number of people that come to it. See more..
  5. 4.5 Walk of Art (35 reviews)
    - Fun, Enchanting, Serene Art in a Unique Setting
Spent < 1 hour Scenic Walking Areas
    Walk of Art image
This is a "Hidden Gem". We happened onto an article about the Walk of Art and were thrilled to have a chance to visit. It is a unique approach to art in a natural setting of a beautiful forest and beach of East Grand Traverse Bay. The art is from the serene to the whimsical. While we picked up the brochure that had a map with locations of the artwork and details about each, we enjoyed roaming the trails and just happening upon the artwork. A nice variety of art is represented with usually 35 sculptures spread out the 15-acre park. It is located at the Elk Rapids Day park. The wooded paths are beautiful and the beach has a sandy shore but a rocky shoreline. Truly a special place for a relaxing and enchanting walk. You don't know what you will find on the path. This narrow park is located on the south side of the Penwater Channel. You must drive several miles around Pentwater Lake to reach this location, but worth the trip. There are restrooms at the entrance on the left. As you walk long the boardwalk, there are a couple information signs about the area. Continue on towards the channel. We saw many people fishing from the boardwalk. The boardwalk leads you to full access to the South Pier walkway and a great sunset view. Benches along the walkway. The opposite side of the channel has a beach and many people. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing time, then this side is where you want to be. Small parking area located near private driveways. There are signs posted where Private property is located. See more..
  13. 4.0 Deadman's Hill (1 review)
    - Deadman's Hill view & trails
Spent 1-2 hours Scenic Walking Areas
    Deadman's Hill image
On my way to the view I overheard an old man asking someone directions, saying he used to come here with his family when he was a little boy. It was super cute. When I got to the view, it was hard to get the full scope of it. They had some tree's blocking a really good picturesque view, but it was pretty. The trees were starting to turn in some areas, which made it nice. If they did some landscaping to give couple better lookouts that would be nice. Even standing on the fence to get a better shot didn't help much. Thet rail however was really fun to take! BUT BE WARNED! Do NOT do the trail from the lookout, that is meant to be 'the end' If you're going to walk the trail start at the trailhead below, if not you will end up walking 0.7 miles UPHILL. It was hell. - A nice place to wander around
Spent 1-2 hours Piers & Boardwalks • Bridges • Scenic Walking Areas
I've been out here three times to check it out as a walking place for our walking club. There are several interconnected trails which go through the woods and fields. The trail crosses a metal bridge and there are a few boardwalks too. Small hills are easily walkable. Strollers and wagons will have difficulty in places. Can be wet after rains and Spring thaw.
