My wife and I organized this walk in May for Lupus Awareness Month. Even though it was a rainy day, many people turned out to walk from Ojibway to 7-Eleven and back. Thank you to all who came out! Ojibway Island is a great place to meet and walk. See more..

    - A wonderful day!!!!

    South Manitou Island image
The lighthouse on South Manitou Island started my love of lighthouses when I was just 10 years old, it was fantastic to return as an adult!!! We did the lighthouse tour, hiked to the cedar trees and to the shipwreck, it was a full wonderful day! We packed our picnic lunch and had it on the hill by the viewing for the shipwreck, I would highly recommend that for you lunch stop! We plan to return next summer to stay overnight and snorkel in warmer weather to the shipwreck. There is not enough time to do that if you are just on the day trip. The park staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Can't wait to visit again! See more..
  5. 4.0 Passage Island (4 reviews)
    - Great tour to an island with lush vegetation and a lighthouse.
Spent More than 3 hours Islands
    Passage Island image
This is a ranger guided tour arranged through Rock Harbor Lodge involving about a 1 hour boat trip each way. Passage Island is at the extreme limit of the park, and be aware your cell phone may ping off of Canadian cell towers. The boat cruise is interesting in and of itself. You get a nice view of the northern point of the island, and off in the distance, the Canadian shoreline. Once docked on Passage Island you do a 1 mile hike each way to the lighthouse. The ranger explained all the vegetation, including the devil's club shrub. Because there are no moose on the island, the vegetation is quite lush, almost always waist height or more. The trail is relatively easy, with one shoreline overlook right before you get to the lighthouse. The lighthouse dates to 1881 and overlooks a picturesque rocky shore. A must do trip. At the time we visited, the trip was from 1:30 to 6:00 P.M., although we made it back slightly before 6:00. See more..
  6. 5.0 Rawson's King Mill County Park (1 review)
    - Bring Your Camera!
    Monday: 7:00 AM - 8:30 PM Islands • Parks • Dams
I was on a drive in Southwest Michigan to see the fall color and I stumbled across Rawson's King Mill Park. I saw the brown county park sign while going down M-60/66 and turned off to see what it was like. I'll always check out any place that has a mill since they make great photo opportunities. Rawson's turned out to be amazing! There is a small parking area across from the mill. The mill itself was not open to go into (probably covid closed, but did not check). A creek called Nottawa Creek flows past the mill. There is a dam/waterfall that was built to divert water to the mill and it makes a great backdrop to the gazebo on a little island in the creek. There is also a small waterfall to the left of the damn and another where the water exits the mill. There are three bridges that allow access to and from the different islands and an area that allows you to walk along the slow moving creek. I happened to be there at peak fall color and the whole place was ablaze in yellow/orange/red. The mill has been restored and makes an excellent backdrop for photos. There were no less than 5 families out with photographers getting fall pictures taken. It's a small park, but it is amazing. Not only is this park worth a stop, it's worth the 75 minute drive it took to visit it. That's how good the colors and photo ops are. See more..
