South Manitou Island, Michigan, United States

A wonderful day!!!!
The lighthouse on South Manitou Island started my love of lighthouses when I was just 10 years old, it was fantastic to return as an adult!!! We did the lighthouse tour, hiked to the cedar trees and to the shipwreck, it was a full wonderful day! We packed our picnic lunch and had it on the hill by the viewing for the shipwreck, I would highly recommend that for you lunch stop! We plan to return next summer to stay overnight and snorkel in warmer weather to the shipwreck. There is not enough time to do that if you are just on the day trip. The park staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Can't wait to visit again!

Leelanau Historic Society & Museum should be on your list of places to visit in Leland !
The Leelanau Historical Society does an exceptionally good tour of the Manitou Islands for members & guests usually every September. National Park Service tour guides and island history docents put on a great day program. Check out their programs & visit Leelanauhistory.org./events for info or email [email protected] . Their museum in town by Leland Library is a hidden gem !
