What started off with hesitation to pay the $25 fee for a private vehicle turned into a wonderful morning for our family of five with kids ages 4 to 8. It is a pleasant drive on well-maintained roads. There are several beautiful viewpoints. At one location we were able to hike around a portion of the dunes on trails. The highlight, by far, was the Lake Michigan Overlook (#9 and #10 on the provided map and marked at the entrance). After a short walk, the view was absolutely stunning, the dunes were a blast to play on, it was fun to watch people test their bravery on the steep drop towards the lake, and there were lots of great photo opportunities. We’ve been up here before, and it truly does not disappoint. If you go for sunset, arrive early for your spot, bring chairs, snacks, blanket as it can get cold and a camera for sure. We went twice this visit, one early evening and it was a zoo, people looking for spots to park, second visit was mid afternoon on a beautiful, but windy day. We had more time to enjoy without all the people walking around looking for the right picture angle. The mountain has two drives one headed towards Eagle Harbor, one towards Copper Harbor, this one is the cool twisty one and has a great overlook about half way, City of Copper Harbor and beyond, really a gorgeous view, don’t pass this by! Beautiful adventure driving thru the Tunnel of Trees just before dusk October 2, 2020. We drove from Cross Village to Spring Harbor. Colorful trees, sunset of Lake Michigan was spectacular, beautiful homes, wildlife grazing in the open fields - this was such a relaxing road trip. Highly recommend. I’m sure it’s something beautiful to experience in every season. See more..
  4. 4.5 Blue Water River Walk (132 reviews)
    - Enjoyable Visit

    Blue Water River Walk image
My significant other and I decided to spend some time in Port Huron and while we were there we decided to drop by the Blue Water River Walk. The River Walk is an almost one mile long walk along the beautiful St. Claire River. There is a variety of local art work along the entire walk that is nice to look at. One of the areas biggest attractions is the conservation efforts. The area had been ravaged by industry and a lot of local wildlife has been affected by this. To help combat this the walk has a variety of areas for wildlife to have a safe harbor. One of the coolest areas is near the end of the walk where the wetlands is located. Definitely worth the walk and time spent here, especially to see some history of how the city used to look. See more..
  5. 4.5 River Road Scenic Byway (93 reviews)
    - See the River Road!

This is a National Scenic Byway. I forgot how long. No longer than 20 miles. There are a lot of pull offs that look out on scenic views. There's parks & a restored river boat. Lots of places to picnic. The Lumbermans Monument is a must see. Largo Springs is definitely worth a look. We liked Whirlpool access, which is a boat launch. It has a boardwalk trail that leads to the river. It was cool to look at the little whirlpools. Nice up close look at the river also. Lumbermans Monument has the only visitor center & it was only partially open due to covid. There's still employees to answer questions & handout brochures. It also has an open gift shop, as in out in the open! Definitely a must do if you're in the area & like the outdoors. See more..
  6. 4.5 Thomas Edison Parkway Boardwalk (68 reviews)
    - A great place to watch the sun and water

    Thomas Edison Parkway Boardwalk image
This is a really beautiful park with a boardwalk, benches a boxcar, a nice view of Canada and a statue of Thomas Edison himself. It’s a gorgeous place to exercise, fish or just sit and watch the sun, the boats and the beautiful blue water where Lake Huron meets the St. Clair River. We are from the Erie County, Ohio area, where Edison was born, so we got to compare the statues! See more..
