This was definitely one of my family's favorite stops on our trip to Michigan! The priest who greeted us (I wish I could remember his name!) was so sweet and informative. After a short presentation and history of the land and crucifix we went on our way. Each sculpture and shrine is beautiful, but the crucifix! My oh my it is breathtaking! We enjoyed walking the trail of the stations of the cross. It is so quiet and peaceful there, I wish I lived closer and could spend more time there whenever I wish. I also wish we could have visited during a mass. I'm sure it is lovely. The gift shop is nice and reasonably priced. There is no admission fee, although they do appreciate a donation, also donations for "lighting" prayer candles. We spent about an hour there in total. My photos do no justice to the size and magnitude of the crucifix, but they do show just how beautiful it is. See more..

5.0Sri Venkateswara Temple & cultural centre(8 reviews) - Soothing, Blissful & Tummy full too Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites Amidst shivering winter, skidding drives and snow storms, finding a place, that is new yet appears familiar and friendly is what one finds in this place. Being a weekend, there were enough indians around, while the hungry stomach led me to the dining area where i ate to my heart's content, which was against what my sister had advised me to do. I then visited the idol of the diety, the serenity, the ambience of the temple reminded me of the one in Pittsburgh and the rare chance to converse with the priest who happened to hail from bangalore educated me of the history of the temple. As I stepped out of the temple into the car and went to other places that day, his blessing of "may the god grant you more visits" kept ringing in my mind. I definitely love to return to the temple, this time to spend more time at the prayer hall first :~)See more..

This shrine is so beautiful! I've been stopping in here since I was a child. Make sure to grab a booklet with a map so you don't miss anything. A wonderful place to pray & reflect. The grounds were so well maintained with flowers etc. this time of year. They also have St. Mary's Catholic church there which while passing through have not been able to attend a mass there. (And with Covid, I believe they are doing them outside at this time). All and all just a beautiful place & must see ~See more..

5.0The Old Rugged Cross Church(2 reviews) - Interesting piece of local and national history Spent 1-2 hours Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
This is the location where the song, "The Old Rugged Cross" was first sung in its entirety. The church has been renovated beautifully and a garden established near it for a contemplative walk. If you do some advance planning, an interior tour is possible that also includes a nice museum. The interior is simple, but with an unexpected elegance and a fascinating history. Be sure to make a contribution if you are offered a tour. This church is a religious treasure.See more..
