    - Wildflowers are outstanding in the spring, but a visit in any season is worthwhile

My husband and I have enjoyed a hike at Dowagiac Woods nature preserve many times, but our spring visits stand out as the prime time. There is a well-marked hiking path, and some of the wildflowers have markers, although it may be difficult to pick them out if they are not in bloom at the time of your visit. With an abundance of wildflowers and a variety of trees and birds, every visit will be unique. A visit to the woods at the time the rare Blue-Eyed Mary wildflower is in blossom is delightful. Michigan Nature Association owns, maintains and protects the 384 acres, with the help of willing volunteers who share a love of the land. See more..

Camping in the Huron-Manistee National Forest was heaven sent! It’s remote, quiet, private and beautiful with large sites for RV’s or tents. No electric or water hookups. Situated along Lake Michigan it’s just a short walk to the sandy beach. There are four loops of camping, three of which can be reserved in advance with the fourth on a first come first served basis. Access the camping west off M-31 north of Ludington, Mi. And south of Manistee, Mi. See more..
