We travelled specifically to this park from down state to view the Milky Way on the new moon. Found out this is a popular spot for viewing the sunset (crowded) so recommend coming early as the parking lot fills up (very small lot) come before sunset or later as the sunset crowd leaves. At 10:30p we walked about a mile from the aux parking to get into the park. Red filter/gel covering for your flashlight as it does not interrupt your night vision and white/regular flashlights are not allowed. Facebook page has scheduled events, information as well. AMAZING. NOMAC was set up and we were able to look through their amazing scope to see Saturn and it's beautiful rings. Clear sky and were able to see Milky Way as well.See more..
We stumbled upon River Raisin National Battlefield Park when we were in the area to see Lake Erie. I knew nothing about the park when we went which added to my curiosity. It turns out this was the site of a major War of 1812 battle. The main museum building was closed, but a gentleman in period garb was stationed in a tent by the road. He gave us a detailed run down of the battle and events. We learned a tremendous amount about the local area during our time there. We walked along a portion of the battlefield path where a number of boards tell the story of the battle. It very hot, but it was an enjoyable stroll. I highly recommend stopping by River Raisin NBP as it was highly informative and a great place to visit!See more..
Beautiful and peaceful campground. The pit toilet was pretty clean; could have used a mop, but the water was conveniently located. We were in site 88 which was spacious and more secluded than not. We had a very friendly, annual extended-stay neighbor who bestowed goodies upon our kids and was on hand to advice and or recommendations. It was a nice perk of the campsite! We were one of the farthest sites from the beach access but it was only maybe a 5-10 minute walk. The beach was just perfect. Calm and gorgeous. For anyone who wants a nice, secluded spot, let me recommended site 85. It was the best site we saw for those in search of seclusion.See more..
Camping in the Huron-Manistee National Forest was heaven sent! It’s remote, quiet, private and beautiful with large sites for RV’s or tents. No electric or water hookups. Situated along Lake Michigan it’s just a short walk to the sandy beach. There are four loops of camping, three of which can be reserved in advance with the fourth on a first come first served basis. Access the camping west off M-31 north of Ludington, Mi. And south of Manistee, Mi.See more..

4.0Hull's Trace(1 review) - Not a whole lot going on yet. National Parks I made a point of checking out Hull's Trace when I passed through the area this past summer. There is a little park with walking areas to check out the water and wildlife. They have some info boards up about Hull's Trace that explains what it is and why it was important. Unfortunately, there isn't much of it that you can actually see. There is a boat ramp, a really nice pavilion and picnic area. Hopefully, they can manage to display more of the log road somehow in the future.See more..
