    Unusual Historic Museum and Site
This unusual museum and site is one of a kind and a must see. A gentleman named Raymond W. Overholzer made it his life's work to build this northwoods log hunting lodge using stumps and pine branches from the area. The craftsmanship of this lodge is remarkable, and the tour is excellent at pointing out the various pieces. No wax or finish is used on any of the pieces. The construction of the pieces you'll find remarkable. Truly a work of art, and a shrine to the area. Take a walk around the site as well on their trails. We found this little site by accident - and it became one of the highlights of our trip.

Heard of this place for decades. 1st visit. GREAT DOCENT.
The Shrine of the Pines is truly one of a kind. A single hunting guide dug up pine roots and with only hand tools crafted beds, chairs, tables, chandaliers, etc. What made it even better was the young woman who explained how the woodcarver did all this! Don't think you'll find anything else like this any where. You're also only a few blocks from Jones Ice Cream - a restaurant and ice cream parlor that has been making its own excellent ice cream for decades.
