East Jordan River Pathway backpacking 18 Mile Loop
The East Jordan River pathway 18 mile loop. This was my fourth time to hike this trail within the past 25 years. I would rate the hike a intermediate backpacking trip. The traditional loop suggests counterclockwise from point 1 to 25. I would suggest you start from 25 and work your way down to 1 running the trail clockwise this will leave the easiest half of the loop for the second day. The traditional loop. points 1 to 12 have you traveling along the river valley floor while the second half points 13 to 25 have you traveling up and down the Hill tops. Pinny Bridge camping area has pit toilets and a fresh water hand pump with rustic camping. You get the deep woods feel through most of the hike but there are several times you cross dirt roads leading in and out to a fish hatchery. Make sure you take this route around the second or third week in October to make sure you catch the color changes here in Michigan ..
