Great place for picnic hike kayak fishing

I am lucky enough to be able to walk to from our sub, it is a peaceful place to hike, fish, bike, swim, have a picnic. There are 3 parts to bald mountain and none of them are connected, the entrance off lapeer road is where most people go and has all the activities. Bald mountain north is more rustic but offers similar activities minus the swimming, the third section of Bald Mountain had a model airplane field, I have not been to this section so I can’t comment on it. Bald mountain in general is a great place to spend a day, visit their website for activities at the various locations.

    Nice hike, many BBQ sites, fiahing
    If you want to go for a hike, take Greenshield Rd off 24 to get directly to the trail head. You'll need a recreational passport. If you enter the park through the main entrance, you can park at the second or third to last parking lot and take a short trail that connects to the trail head. We took our dogs on a late Sunday afternoon. The trail is mostly wooded and an easy hike. You share the trail with bikers. We didn't see too many, so no big deal while we were there. You can extend or shorten your hike as you like, as there are many trails across.

    Big State Park with 2 Areas
    Big state park has north and south parts which divided by the paint creek trail. We went to the southen part first to see the beach side and hiked around the shooting center. Then the second day we checked out the hiking trails in the north part of the park. There're several trails: Graham Lake Trail, Red Loop Trail, Orange Loop Trail, White Loop Trail and Blue Trail. They're not easy trails to walk and they're under the shades. If you are planning to hike these trails, it's hard to find a parking spot during the peak time. Most of the trail heads have limited spots.
