Interlochen State Park, Michigan, United States

4.0 (110 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Grand Traverse County State Parks

An old-fashioned camping experience

I am always happy to come back to this state park - well maintained grounds and bathhouses and the scenery is beautiful. Park rangers "patrol" often through the park. Quiet in the evening. A bonus is hearing the musicians at the music camp next door. Always feels like an old-fashioned camping experience. Close to Traverse City and Glen Arbor. Love this state park!

Great location, clean park, beware of swimmers itch!
This was a great location for day trips! Beware of swimmers itch. We were in Duck lake just one day for a few hours soaking up some sun and all 5 of us got it pretty bad. The bumps itch like crazy and lasted about a week. I would avoid the water here. The park was very nice and we had a great camping spot with a view of the water. I highly recommend it as long as you don't want to swim.

First time at a Michigan state park
We had never stayed at a Michigan state park before and the showers were the best we have ever experienced while camping. The showers and restrooms were in general very clean. We were in the north loop and the sites were all flat but varied in size. Try to pick a site on the outside because the sites in the middle looked pretty crowded. Our site was 199 and it was nice and big. South loop was supposed to have been closed due to construction but they had half the sites open. The south loop looked nicer but also had some sloping sites. They have a nice beach and well stocked camp store. We did not swim in the lake due to the swimmers itch warnings. For the most part campers respected the quiet hours. It was a great place to stay to see Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes which is not that far of a drive from Interlochen.
