- 4.5 Forsyth Park (8.995 reviews)
-Beautiful on a Sunny Day
Spent < 1 hour Parks
In Charleston...it's the Pineapple Fountain, but when in Savannah it is the Forsyth Fountain, the signature piece in the huge Forsyth Park. It was a beautiful, sunny, mid 70's day in March when we wandered this park for the first time. So many places to sit, relax, and enjoy nature. Unfortunately, about a week before we arrived there was a 27 degree killing frost which did affect the Azaleas...which are everywhere in the park (and in Savannah in general). The unopened buds were not affected, so we did see some beautiful flowers of many different colors. There are many Live Oaks with hanging moss-that are clearly very old, and have experienced a lot in their lives. It was our pleasure to experience this beautiful park on a gorgeous day!! See more..

The Olde Pink House is a must restaurant to put on your agenda when visiting Savannah! Delicious food, Excellent staff. Fantastic atmosphere. The shrimp and grits appetizer was scrumptious as was the rest of our meal. They have a vocalist who sings for birthdays, anniversaries and other occasions. And when we talked to her in the hall, she asked our favorite singer and she then proceeded to sing one of Aretha Franklin’s songs right there! Phenomenal. We highly recommend going down to the tavern bar where there is live music starting at 7:30 pm. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing down there and just away from everything! See more..

- 5.0 Anna Ruby Falls (2.845 reviews)
-Worth the Hike
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Waterfalls
This is a short half mile paved hike. It does have a steep incline near the end, so we recommend pacing yourself. The falls are beautiful and definitely worth it. We did see a large age range hiking. I personally would not recommend this for toddlers, as there are steep drop offs on the sides of the trails. Though we did see several toddlers. I also would only recommend strollers or wheelchairs for those who are physically strong to push up a steep incline, or who plan to take breaks on the way up. There are benches along the path. There is a nice gift shop and friendly staff on the premises. It probably took us 30 minutes to hike up, view, and hike back down. They do charge $5 per per adult. - 4.5 Georgia Sea Turtle Center (2.321 reviews)
-phenomenal experience......
Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas
Learning about not just sea turtles but the entire coastal environment is definitely worth the trip. We enjoyed the entire outing but had a real treat as we got to watch them wrestle one of the larger sea turtles out of its tank and transport it to the "clinic" for lab work. Try to visit during feeding time and watch some of the turtles who know exactly when they are to be fed start to raise a ruckus demanding their food (one was swimming around and returning impatiently to the area of his tank where he knew he would be fed and splashing water every which way demanding attention (read food). Our visit was cut short due to an appointment but that did not stop us fr/ returning and spending another hour or so visiting the center. See more..

The Atlanta History Center was founded on the big ideas and relentless fascination of 14 Atlantans who were emphatic about our city’s historical relevance in society. In a sense, our organization was created by Atlanta’s biggest fans, and we love that detail. In 1926, these founding members introduced the Atlanta Historical Society into the world with one mission: to help preserve Atlanta’s history. In 1990, after decades of collecting, researching, publishing and celebrating the early stories of our great Southern community, the Atlanta Historical Society and all of its holdings officially became the Atlanta History Center. First African Baptist Church was organized in 1773 under the leadership of Reverend George Leile and established and constituted in December of 1777 as a body organized believers. Under the leadership of the 3rd Pastor Reverend Andrew C. Marshall, the congregation obtained the property where the present sanctuary stands. Marshall also organized the first black Sunday school in North America and changed the name of the church from “First Colored Baptist” to “First African Baptist”. The sanctuary was completed in 1859 under the direction of the 4th Pastor Reverend William J. Campbell. The ceiling of the church is in the design of a “Nine Patch Quilt” which represented that the church was a safe house for slaves. Beneath the lower auditorium floor is another finished sub floor which is known as the “Underground Railroad”. There is 4ft of height between both floors. The holes in the floor are in the shape of an African prayer symbol known as a Congolese Cosmogram that served a purpose of ventilation. First African Baptist Church has been a place of leadership and service since its inception. Reverend Emmanuel King Love, 6th Pastor, led the movement to establish Savannah State University, formerly known as Georgia State Industrial College for Colored Youth. Rev. Love also played a big role in the establishment of Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA and Paine College in Augusta, GA. Mountains
Our weekend getaway included several hikes. It was cold when we went and I wished I had taken leggings to go under my pants and a toboggan for my head, especially when we got to the top of the mountain. The view was spectacular. The shuttle was not running so we hiked the 0.6 miles to the top. It was a hike up, but an easy stroll down. Most everyone wore masks even outside and in particular around someone. I think in all, it took an hour and a half to complete this hike, take pictures, visit with people, and totally enjoy the scenery. Well worth the hike. Oh, due to the cold weather, running water bathrooms were not working. The elevator was not running. There were what we call “thunder pots” available in the parking lot for bathroom emergencies. Fee to use the park was $3.00 per person. See more..
