This 225- acre wildlife sanctuary includes over 4 miles of nature trails, providing access to a variety of habitats typical of the Georgia piedmont: river floodplains, wetlands, upland pine and hardwood forests, fields, ponds, and streams. In 2012, Sandy Creek Nature Center completed a major expansion funded by SPLOST and community partnership dollars. Over 4,000 square feet were added to the Education & Visitor Center, including new exhibits and a planetarium. 6. 4.5 Rollins Planetarium (19 reviews)
    - Great shows-get tickets in advance
Observatories & Planetariums • Educational sites
    Rollins Planetarium image
This planetarium is part of the college, so parking can be tricky! Make plans to search for parking and you may have to walk a short distance. Seating is limited so I advise you to order tickets ahead of time instead of expecting to get tickets at the door. Show descriptions are informative and allows you to know what to expect (a good thing with small children). Restrooms are close by but expect to leave out of a completely dark environment into a well let room if your kiddos have to go to the RR during a show. The presenter is upbeat and keeps kids engaged. Uga Mary Kahrs Warnell Forest Education Center image
I called ahead to make sure they were open to the public since their website seemed like it was more for classes and field trips. I spoke with Gail and she let me know it definitely is open to the public. When we got there, we really didn’t know where to go but Gail let us in the building and gave us a map of the hiking trails. The trails are behind the building. We had a good time walking the short trail (1/3 mile). We read all about different kinds of pine and oak trees, we found tortoise burrows, and animal tracks. We’ll go back with bug spray to walk the other trails. See more..
