4.5Fort Pulaski National Monument(2.697 reviews) - Great fort! Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites • Historic Walking Areas • Monuments & Statues
Fort Pulaski National Monument has one of the best preserved nineteenth century masonry fortifications in the United States. It was also the site of a major artillery duel during the Civil War that saw the first major use of rifled artillery in battle. You can tour the fortress, see living historians bringing the past to life, or watch an artillery demonstration that really immerses visitors with the sights and sounds of conflict. The monument however, is more than just a fort. We have over 5000 acres of pristine saltwater marsh, one of the largest concentrations of marsh along the coast of Georgia. Combine that with miles of trails and you have a great way to get away from our cultural history and surround yourself with the natural beauty of Cockspur Island, the heart of the monument.See more..

4.0James Brown Statue(49 reviews) - Godfather of Soul Remembered Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
What appears to be a life sized bronze statue of The Godfather of a Soul in his adopted home town. It is at intersection of Broad a Street and James Brown Blvd. it is in a small Plaza dividing the North and a South bound lanes of Broad Street. The Imperial Theater where he sometimes practiced and performed is about a block away. Yes he was an imperfect person, but he was a major entertainer deserving of ongoing recognition. Augusta was good for him and he was good for Augusta. It might not be a destination sight, but it is worth a short visit when downtown Augusta, especially since street parking is still free. See pictures.See more..
Just another piece of history about Lindbergh that a lot of people do not know. You really have to respect a guy who puts his life’s savings on a bet on himself with the goal of buying a plane and then learning to fly it. You can not be inspired by this piece of artwork and the brief display of a snapshot of his life. See more..

4.0Poultry Capital of the World Monument(5 reviews) - Holds Special Memories For Us Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
My wife and I visited today. This is a small park providing benches and gardens centered around a monument with a chicken on top dedicated to the poultry industry which in the mid 1900’s was a major factor in the local economy. My wife and I both grew up in Gainesville. My first job experience was in a local chicken plant back in the poultry heyday so visiting and reminiscing was a special experience for us. Located just off the main square in downtown Gainesville at Jesse Jewell Parkway and Grove Street directly across from the Steam Locomotive. A quick stop for a unique and interesting piece of local history.See more..

We read about the memorial on trip advisor and thought we’d check it out. It’s a great place to go if you have a couple of extra minutes. It definitely isn’t somewhere you’d spend a lot of time. Summer camp was going on, so we didn’t explore too much but we were able to find the memorial easily. It is on the Forest Trail to the left of the restrooms. You walk about 100 yards (past the teepee) and the statues are circling a tree along the trail. I wish there was a marker there that gave some information about the monkey massacre. See more..
