The Stone Mountain Park boasts over 3,200 acres of natural beauty and is one of Georgia's most popular attractions. Take a five-mile train around the impressive mountain and learn about the history of its bas-relief carving. Then, catch the sky ride to the mountaintop to enjoy the fantastic views of the surrounding valley. Alternatively, you can hike the path leading uphill or trek through the numerous other trails within the park. Camp overnight to play some mini-golf in the morning and visit historic landmarks like Grist Mill. A breathtaking live oak avenue leads visitors one mile down a colonial road to a vistor center, where they can watch short historical film, tour a museum, and browse a gift shop. A walking trail leads to the 1737 tabby ruins of the oldest remaining structure in the Savannah. Trails meander past scenic marsh views to the Colonial Life Area, where costumed interpreters provide living history demonstrations in the afternoons, weather permitting. Five more miles of nature trails are available for those who are more adventurous. See more..

  4. 4.5 Tallulah Gorge State Park (1.054 reviews)
    - Great trails and amenities

    Tallulah Gorge State Park image
This was our second visit in two years. In 2019, in October, it was cooler and crowded. We climbed the 317 steps to the falls and it almost killed us. This time, it was warmer, and no crowds. We simply walked the well maintained trails to see several of the dam overlooks, and take pictures. No stairs! Admission to this GA state park was $5. Two years ago, in the Interpretive Center’s gift shop, I splurged on a pink tee shirt declaring that I survived the steps to the falls. The gift shop is still open, and items within are tempting. I did not succumb. I looked, and did not buy anything. But I wanted, too. The exhibits are informative and interesting. The staff is friendly and helpful. If you need to use the bathrooms, they are clean and well maintained. The Center is ADA compliant with ramps & an elevator. During Delta variant of CoVid, masks are recommended in crowded areas. Unicoi State Park image
Unlike at neighboring Anna Ruby Falls (run by the USFS), Unicoi still has its picnic areas open. Although we were there on a Saturday, there were still tables and grills available. The large covered tables can be reserved ahead of time for a fee, but the regular size tables are first come, first serve. Their bathrooms were also open. See more..

    Cloudland Canyon State Park image
A visit in early April after heavy rains turned out to be a good time to see the waterfalls. They were really going strong and you could see them from the canyon rim because the leaves weren't out on the trees yet. There is a nice visitor center. The picnic area is pretty. We walked along the rim trail. See more..
  7. 4.5 Vogel State Park (653 reviews)
    - Cabin camping
Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM State Parks
    Vogel State Park image
We reserved a two bedroom cabin for four nights and we were very pleased with our choice. While this park is known for camping in a tent or motor home or trailer, cabin camping is another option as there are more than 30 cabins of various sizes to choose from. Our cabin was very modern. It included a full kitchen with a full size refrigerator, an electric range, a microwave and several small appliances. There were comfortable beds, televisions, a dining table inside, one on the porch and a picnic table near the fire pit. There were also chairs included in that area. There are rocking chairs on the covered porch so when it rained we were protected. As for activities, some people were on the lake in small boats or kayaks which I assume they brought themselves. Other activities at this time of year would be hiking and mini golf. There is a small gift shop at the visitor center. Or, weather permitting, just enjoy your time around a camp fire. See more..

  9. 4.5 Providence Canyon State Park (479 reviews)
    - Beautiful Canyon
Thursday: 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM State Parks • Canyons
    Providence Canyon State Park image
We had a perfect day to explore the Canyon. An absolute must is good walking/hiking footwear. This is not a walk on pavement. The ground is uneven with roots and dips. But what a fun adventure! There is much shade on the Canyon Loop Trail. Trees have a white blaze to mark the trail and I would have liked a few more trees marked than currently there. Some of the lookout views are partially obstructed with trees that could be cut back. The scenery is beautiful and we took many pictures. We took our time and hiked this trail in almost two hours. We went in the middle of the week so it was not crowded. This is an inexpensive outdoor activity as the fee to park is $5. Take water to drink. Even though it was cool and shady, you will need to drink. The gift shop has snacks and beverages available for sale. See more..

Providence Canyon State Outdoor Recreation Area image
We recently found out about the Providence Canyon State Park and drove down as we were both off and needed somewhere to go that we can socially distance. It was raining but I'd still highly recommend this place as you can walk down into the canyon (which some people were down there even with the rain but we didn't do it because it was really muddy. We hope to go back when we can spend more time and see it to the fullest. Absolutely Beautiful!!! See more..
  11. 4.5 Red Top Mountain State Park (357 reviews)
    - Hiking Trails are Stunning
Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM State Parks
Red Top Mountain State Park image
This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing and fishing. Visitors can bring their own boats or rent from nearby marinas. A sand swimming beach is nestled in a cove and surrounded by trees, providing a great place to cool off during summer. Picnic shelters and group shelters may be rented for meetings, parties, reunions and other celebrations. Guests often stay overnight in rental cottages, a spacious campground or the park’s lakeside yurt. While best known for the 12,000-acre lake, Red Top Mountain is also a hiker’s haven. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, providing opportunities for exercise and nature photography. A short, paved trail behind the park office is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, welcoming guests to explore a reconstructed 1860s homestead. The gravel-topped 4-mile Iron Hill Trail is open to both hikers and bikers, offering pretty views of the lake’s shoreline.Named for the soil’s rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area. Iron pour programs are occasionally held near the Vaughn Cabin behind the park office. See more..
  12. 4.5 High Falls State Park (306 reviews)
    - The falls, trails, and the lake make it a must!
    State Parks
    High Falls State Park image
First, know that there are two camp grounds, lower camp ground and an upper camp ground. We stayed at the lower camp ground and I was nice. The 2.4 mile loop trail is just beautiful and I highly recommend the hour walk to see the whole thing. Then there is the trail that follows the length of the falls and it’s just as cool as it never strays to far from the water. The falls speak for them selves during the rainy season, massive, loud, and beautiful. The lake is so peaceful and full of little books and crannies to explore. We will definitely be back! See more..

    - Nice park to stay
Thursday: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours State Parks
    Fort Mountain State Park image
Beautiful state park in the mountains of north central Georgia. Lots of beautiful sites within the park. Some on top of hills, others near the water. Bathhouse was clean and plenty of soap and paper towels. Campground host was warm and friendly. Very young rangers at check-in were shy and bearly spoke over a whisper but friendly nonetheless. Weather was unseasonably cold! Low 30’s at night for mid-October See more..
  14. 4.5 Black Rock Mountain State Park (274 reviews)
    - Beautiful park at good price
    State Parks
Black Rock Mountain State Park image
We rented one of the remodeled cabins. The cabins are now up to date with new appliances and furniture. Porch furniture is good quality wooden but not comfortable for long sitting. I recommend bringing folding chairs for reading . Kitchen utensils are provided. They did not have wine cork screw so I bought one and donated it. Also no paper towels, so I donated a roll. The checkout process asks that you essentially get the cabin ready for next guests. I’m told that the parks can’t find enough staff. This appears to be the story at all Georgia parks. We do a lot RV camping in Georgia and while the parks are nice, we hear the same story from staff. Lack of staff and also delays in getting inventory for supplies and parts. See more..
  15. 4.5 Sweetwater Creek State Park (262 reviews)
    - Nice Stroll by a Rolling Creek
Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM State Parks
    Sweetwater Creek State Park image
This was an unplanned stop. I was working nearby and had my trail runners and state park parking pass in the car. I hiked the blue loop and the trail to the old mill. Both trails were relatively level although there are slight inclines. The temperature was about 97 degrees so I’d recommend wearing shorts on a hot day. Also there were many people swimming in the creek. It’s a very relaxing stroll. See more..

    Fort Yargo State Park image
I used to come here for mountain bike riding around 2003-07 but had never camped here. I really like this park, so when we decided to camp here I was super excited. Brought some additional family and had a great weekend. The sites are well spaced and maintained with the end result being a very quiet and enjoyable campground. Hiking, biking and lake activities are fantastic. However, the beach area could use some improvement. Apparently anyone who pays a day use fee can come to the same beach and picnic area as campers. So we had to share this area with probably around +300 other families. This was still not a deal killer as there were lifeguards and DNR officers on site, but I would have enjoyed the access to the lake a lot better if the attendance had not been so high. Maybe a separate beach area for campers only would be a solution. Anyways, great park! Plenty of outdoor activities and amenities. We will definitely be back! See more..

    Georgia Veterans State Park image
One of Georgia’s true treasures, Georgia Veteran’s State Park was established in 1946 as a memorial to U.S. veterans. This beautiful 1,308 acre park pays tribute to veterans from the Revolutionary War through the present day. The Park operates under the theme, “Serve the Living: Honor our Heroic Dead. Easily accessible from I-75 (via Exit 101 and west on Highway 280) in Cordele, GA, the park features the picture-perfect Lake Blackshear, an array of recreational activities and its signature Military Museum with engaging indoor exhibits, as well as outdoor static displays including: a B-29A Superfortress, jets, a helicopter, tanks, landing craft and artillery. Refresh your spirit with a walk on the four miles of nature trails, or gather the family and enjoy a lakeside picnic and a swim from the sandy beach. We happened to have four days of rain which kept us from partaking in many of the activities offered bur the lake and playground etc certainly offerwd variety. We stayed at the lodge and found it to be quite nice. Staff at the main desk were always curteous and happy to help with anything we needed. See more..
  21. 4.5 Chattahoochee Bend State Park (146 reviews)
    - Excellent Adventure

    Chattahoochee Bend State Park image
This park is one of the largest in Georgia, with miles of frontage to the mighty Chattahoochee River. We came here for the trails, but there are tons of things to do here. There are boat entry points, camping - prepared sites, walk in sites, and even shelters, playgrounds, a beautiful park office and store. Great, clean, facilities near the major trailheads and a great lookout tower that provided very pretty views. The trails includes one that goes the length of the park, with at least a couple of miles of river views. Trail is one way and goes up and down the bluffs, and ends at a small bathroom facility and picnic table. Bring your water and your camera - beautiful, peaceful, hikes await you! See more..

Nice park with spacious site that are level stone. Electric needs to be improved with the park filled as it has been since we arrived 11/26/2020 there are large swings in voltage - my surge protector kept kicking off for low voltage especially in the afternoon and evening. There is boating, fishing, biking and walking trails and mini golf $5.00 per person. Loop 1 bathhouse was old but very clean. Loop 2 had a newer bathhouse with family showers. Premium sites have 50 amp and sewer. Other sites have 30 amp no sewer but all have cable hook-up. About 6 miles from I-75. See more..
  24. 4.5 Tugaloo State Park (125 reviews)
    - Amazing fall weekend stay

    Tugaloo State Park image
We enjoyed this park so much. My husband and I stayed two nights in one of the yurts and then we moved to a cottage where we were joined by other family members for the weekend. The yurt was comfy and cozy with a great deck for relaxing in the sun or watching the stars. We stayed in Cottage 10, which is new and thoroughly modern, comfortabltly and beautifully furnished and decorated. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and ability to stroll in the woods or along the lake shore (water level was quite low), but it’s screened porch with room and seating for all was something we all enjoyed and wished we could duplicate at home. The super staff made sure everything went well and were very helpful for answering questions. See more..
  25. 4.5 Stephen C. Foster State Park (122 reviews)
    - Beautiful and interesting place
Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM State Parks
Stephen C. Foster State Park image
We stayed at Stephen C Foster in one of the cottages. Usually, I camp and the campground is outstanding but we decided to try it this way this time. The cabin was $150/night and is equipped with dishes, linens, cable tv, and enough sleeping space for 8 people if you sleep two to a bed or 4 people if you sleep solo. The star of the show was the screened in porch. Beautiful area with tons of wildlife and very flat roads for biking. We did the 90 minute guided boat tour which was fun. A guy on the boat asked where was the best place to eat around here which made us and the guide laugh since there are no stores or restaurants within an hour of the park. If you come, bring everything you will need, including bug spray. We saw deer, raccoons, a gray fox, a bobcat, and lots of snakes, lizards, frogs, and gators. Everyone was super nice. See more..

Hard Labor Creek State Park image
What a wonderful gem less than 45 min from Atlanta. Have been to many of the other state parks and this one is the cleanest and best maintained. Could use longer/more hiking trails (suggestion: one that follows around Lake Rutledge) through the 6k acre park. Other than that the beach was nice place to get some sun, plenty of kayaks and aqua-paddles to explore the lake, fun put-put, nice kid-friendly playground, and great horse stables to bring your horse. Smithgall Woods Conservation Area image
We hiked almost 4 miles from the Visitor’s Center, past the covered bridge (Bay’s Bridge), and then took Ash Creek Trail back. Ash Creek Trail was more challenging than we expected — hiking poles would have been helpful, and we had to remove socks and shoes to cross both Ash Creek (ankle deep) and Dukes Creek (almost knee deep). We were the only ones hiking Ash Creek Trail, which was a nice change after visiting the fairly busy Dukes Creek Falls. See more..

Watson Mill Bridge State Park image
This was our first time at the park and we love it. We stayed for a week in our 5th wheel camper at site #5 and although it takes a little backing skills to avoid the trees as you enter the site, the site itself is great! It is an older campground design and this, the spaces are challenging to get in and out of with big rigs. The restroom facilities are cleaned daily and there is even a washer and dryer for convenience. The gift shop is one of the best in the state and includes a free museum showing some of the animals in the forest. There are primitive sites for tents along the river separate from the ones in this small park. The covered bridge and accompanying trails are great and the picnic area and group shelters are well designed and clean. See more..

    - Great place to visit
Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours State Parks

Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site is made up of two historic cotton farms both Dick Jarrell’s farm and mill complex from the turn of the 20th century and John Jarrell’s 1847 homestead from the original cotton plantation. Along with over 25 original structures, the historic site houses one of the largest and most complete collections of original family artifacts of this time period in the Southeast, including the furnishings, textiles, tools, and equipment. This farm is also remarkable for covering more than a century and a half of agricultural history within a few acres. Donated to the state of Georgia in 1975 by the Jarrell family for use as an educational historic site, Jarrell Plantation is an excellent example of self-sustaining farms in the state. See more..

This is a great state park if you want to be right on the water. Lake Rabun is a pretty lake with plenty to do if you have a bit or kayak. The camping area is compact and has a lot of kids on bikes, people walking around, and lots of boat action. The bathhouse seemed to be well maintained and clean. Don’t miss Hemlock Falls across the street as it’s a gorgeous hike with a beautiful falls. This is all we saw of the park this time, but hope to be back to explore more and to get on the water. We were very impressed with the cabin’s size, layout, cleanliness and the best part was the screened in back porch overlooking the woods! Also having a grill and fire pit to ourselves was a bonus! The swamp trails were easy to find and clearly marked, estimated times were accurate and made it easy for us to decide which trail to do when. Could have even walked over to the park’s small lake on the trails. While exploring we saw gopher turtles, lizards and armadillos. If we are back in the area we will rent another cabin, would even be good for a small family reunion with the four cabins being close enough to easily visit but far enough to have your own space! We stayed in May for two nights in cabin #19. It was beautiful and the views, wow! I enjoyed sitting in the rocking chairs having my morning coffee on the back screened deck while listening to the birds cheerfully belt out in song, and watching the boats meander on the lake. We had a trail down to a shared dock (watch your step going down) Our daughters fished off the dock. It had an outdoor fire pit area with picnic table, indoor fireplace, nice big dining table, a kitchen with many amenities-microwave, pots and pans, utensils, dishwasher, etc. Each room had it's own bathroom with bathtub shower. Quaint, clean and beautiful. Those views are memorable! See more..

So this park and Mari a are on the Chattahoochee River portion of Lake Eufaula making it a sportsman’s paradise. It’s close proximity to Providence Canyon State Park make is ideal for day tripping. The campground is laid ok ok although a few of the spots are too close for my taste. We stayed in campsite #1 and found it to be nice. A few of the sites are asphalt pull-through but the majority are gravel, as was ours. Be prepared with a lemon grass insecticide as the gnats are vicious as is the case in most of South Georgia. Stores are more than 25 miles away so come prepared. There is no WiFi and we had one bar with Verizon. We did have over 30 channels on air TV. We would stay here again. See more..

We were in site #1 for 3 nights. Normally site #1 in most parks is not that desirable but this one was nice. It was directly across the street from the lake so we had a nice breeze and a view. The campground host did a great job in keeping the bathrooms very clean as the campground was full on the weekend. We walked a couple of trails and rode bikes all over the park. Nice and helpful folks in the office as well. Left this park headed to Mistletoe. See more..

Spent a beautiful Saturday and the whole family enjoyed the place. $5 admission to get in is well worth it.. Nice little beach with picnic area next to it. canoe rentals and boat ramp on site. As a history buff, I enjoyed going to the grave of Revolutionary War General, Elijah Clarke and visiting his reproduction homestead=very nice. Hiking trails looked good. Camp ground appeared to be quite busy. We loved the refurbished mini golf course. 18 holes, and some were quite challenging. club and ball rental available, but if you bring your own you can play for free.. We took a weekend getaway to this State Park in July. We stayed at the lodge. The rooms were very homey and clean. We had about 11 people in our group and rented 3 rooms at the lodge. The lodge was completely booked- there was some kind of family reunion going on but it was still peaceful and quiet. The staff was very very gracious and polite the whole time we were there. We ate the restaurant at the lodge- I believe it was called The Lighthouse. The food was good and prices were very reasonable. The only disappointing thing about the restaurant was that because of the large private party on our second night there our only dining choice was the buffet. It had many different choices but not what we were expecting. In fact we were not aware of this until we arrived to eat. We all had a great time. The grounds were well maintained and the scenery was beautiful. We will definitely visit again. See more..

The park itself would have been fabulous if it hadn't been for a noisy and boisterous group of campers that showed up to walk the trail just as we arrived. I don't think the rangers had yet had enough time to clear away the fallen trees and leaves from the last winter storms but it was still enjoyable and a nice experience for us. We will definitely be back. See more..

The 1.7 Mile track is great for walking. It has plenty of sun and shade and there are 3-4 restrooms throughout the park. See more..

This is where we had our family reunion and I remember visiting the zoo area and then sitting down to a healthy meal with family and friends. The park is so enchanting and I can't wait to go back there again. The people were so nice and it is somewhat a quiet place too. I will remember that we grilled a turkey or two. I think if we go back again, I will suggest we grill a pig and barbecue it! See more..

Really pretty park with a wooded walking trail and shoals for the kids to play in. Very popular with families in the area. Worth the visit! See more..
