  2. 4.5 Georgia Sea Turtle Center (2.321 reviews)
    - phenomenal experience......
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Georgia Sea Turtle Center image
Learning about not just sea turtles but the entire coastal environment is definitely worth the trip. We enjoyed the entire outing but had a real treat as we got to watch them wrestle one of the larger sea turtles out of its tank and transport it to the "clinic" for lab work. Try to visit during feeding time and watch some of the turtles who know exactly when they are to be fed start to raise a ruckus demanding their food (one was swimming around and returning impatiently to the area of his tank where he knew he would be fed and splashing water every which way demanding attention (read food). Our visit was cut short due to an appointment but that did not stop us fr/ returning and spending another hour or so visiting the center. See more..

Located in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, the Okefenokee Swamp Park is a convenient point of entry and a magnificent show-window for the "Land of the Trembling Earth." Chestatee Wildlife Preserve & Zoo image
It is a quant little place to visit. If you are looking for a sophisticated place, you'll be disappointed. However, the folks there are friendly. It is a very enjoyable place to walk around and visit with a variety of animals. They are a joy to feed too, especially the bison who will stick its tongue out for you to put food on it. It's not a fancy place, but that is not what we were looking for. It makes for a nice time. See more..

    Morganton Point Recreation Area image
This camp site is gorgeous! The camp ground is clean and the staff is so kind. They brought me my wood and ice. I am an avid camper and I’ve never had any campground do this. the staff member who brought the ice, he even helped me start my fire and was so helpful to provide information on nearby activities! I rented the paddle board and the prices were so reasonable, let me tell you this camp ground is perfect for kayaking or paddle boarding! I went over my time for the rental on accident and the lady at the store was so understanding. I normally go to Vogel annually and love it but I have to say Morganton point recreation is my new go to destination for camping. If you are looking for fun and relaxation in a family friendly environment I highly recommend this camp ground! See more..

  12. 4.5 Arabia Mountain (115 reviews)
    - A Gem Of A Place To Explore
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Arabia Mountain image
One of my favorite local places to go hike and explore. Both sides of the bisecting road are interesting but you can go back much further than you think on the mountain side and spend a whole day hiking, so make sure you take one of the blazed trails that take you to the back side of the lake to access a more quieter area to explore. Lots of old stone cutting outcrops and mini quarries to explore, even found an active spring coming out of the ground though a drilled hole in the rock, and some old abandoned houses in the woods. Colorful at certain times of the year when all the Diamorpha bloom. Parking is limited on the mountain side but there is a quick if sometimes wet access trail across the road from the main visitor center car park. When hiking the mountain side don't just head up the mountain but turn right through the trees after starting the trial near the wildlife center and just explore. Lots of ponds with frogs / toads too. Watch for snakes, I have come across a few there. See more..

Grand Bay Wildlife Management Area image
We went to the Grand Bay boardwalk on a Sunday for a nice peaceful stroll! What a beautiful and natural place with so much wildlife around. Take your time to look at all that nature offers. There are signs also that tells stories about the different areas and a tree that was over 400 years old, a long gone farming area and there’s lily pads with beautiful flowers on them. It’s a nice place to take a family, also you can use a stroller or wheelchair! Just the sound of the birds in nature is so refreshing to get out of the fast paced city. A definite must to see. - Wide variety of trail options
Wednesday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM State Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Smithgall Woods Conservation Area image
We hiked almost 4 miles from the Visitor’s Center, past the covered bridge (Bay’s Bridge), and then took Ash Creek Trail back. Ash Creek Trail was more challenging than we expected — hiking poles would have been helpful, and we had to remove socks and shoes to cross both Ash Creek (ankle deep) and Dukes Creek (almost knee deep). We were the only ones hiking Ash Creek Trail, which was a nice change after visiting the fairly busy Dukes Creek Falls. See more..

Callaway Resort & Gardens Golf image
Golfers seeking a real test of their abilities look forward to playing 7,057 yard, par 72 Mountain View, designed by world-famous golf architect Dick Wilson. Tight, tree-lined fairways are characteristic of this true championship course. Mountain View was home to the PGA Tour's Buick Challenge for more than a dozen years. One of Mountain View's most intriguing holes is the par 5, number 6 where the threat of water looms over both tee and approach shots. This hole was ranked as the fourth most difficult par 5 on the Tour by USA Today. See more..

Beyond that, the Center serves as a great resource of fishing information for any level of angler - where to go, what to use and when. 23. 5.0 Lula Lake & Land Trust (66 reviews)
    - Worth it

Lula Lake & Land Trust image
The public is allowed in two weekends a month so check their website for details. The hike is a nice walk, most levels of experience can make it to the lake and at least see the falls. There is a bit harder trail down to the base of the falls and an even harder trail if you want. My opinion on how tough it was though. There was parking closer for handicap vehicles. Very shaded walks. See more..

Been looking forward to visiting the cave for years! It is open to 5pm on weekends, and cost $2 to enter. It is in the back of Rolater Park, parking right in front of the cave. Inside it goes back about 30 yards, and the cavern gets about 30 feet high. There are one or two narrower crevices to walk/crawl into. The water leaves the cave and is available for filling jugs of fresh spring water. The whole park is great, lots of places to swim/wade, a playground, historical structures, open grass for games/sports, shade, and pavilions for parties. Perfect day trip from Atlanta. See more..

  27. 4.5 Lockerly Arboretum (54 reviews)
    - Lockerly Arboretum has year 'round interest
    Wednesday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks
    Lockerly Arboretum image
While there's always year 'round botanical interest at Lockerly Arboretum , it's a horticultural laboratory rather than a showplace garden. The mission is to test non-native plants to determine their adaptability to Middle Georgia climate and soil. There's no admission charge. Located on a 50-acre tract, just outside historic Milledgeville, Ga.(1534 Irwinton Road), Lockerly is home to more than 6,000 species and cultivar plants. As a Lifetime Master Gardener, I appreciate the opportunity to learn more about plants and their names (they're well labeled) each time I visit. The scenic beauty of this unique garden is typical of the Georgia Piedmont. When the antebellum mansion Lockerly Hall was built about 1852, it presided over a 10,000 acre plantation. In the center of the present day arboretum, it's one of the area’s finest examples of Greek Revival architecture and is furnished with historically-appropriate pieces. See more..

We had a full to spare and the park was the perfect place. Not far from Atlantla airport. Parking is $5, you pay by card or cash on the lot. Many bikes, not as many people walking. Great trails, not very long but the forest was perfect and cool. We saw a deer and fawn. Nice waterfalls. Just be careful as sometimes visibility is limited and the bikers come pretty fast. The falls were beautiful!! The hike back to the falls was short and very easy. The climb to get a better look at the falls was not too difficult. I would only recommend the climb to those who are some what fit and maybe a little risky. The area at the bottom of the falls is a great place to splash around and get cool in the water. See more..

We took our dog for a hike at Warwoman Dell to chase waterfalls. Its a really beautiful area. A short nature trail leads into the canyon and to the small but scenic Warwoman Dell Falls. Following Bartram Trail northbound, Becky Branch Falls is just a short ways across the main road. Bartram Trail leads about 2 miles to Martin Creek Falls and there is a Lower Martin Creek Falls a short ways downstream. Overall, a beautiful area and great place for a hike in nature. See more..
  31. 4.0 Eagles Rest Park (34 reviews)

    Eagles Rest Park image
We were enjoying a drive up the gorgeous Burnt Mountain area and happened to see the little brown sign with binoculars and hiking logo, and thought, why not try it? We didn't have time to hike as it was getting late but we made it to the top by car before it was too dark. They have a great picture spot at the top. Free parking. And it's well paved for most of it until you arrive near the lot. Not like some where it's hard to get to and you constantly have to move aside for another car. We had no trouble when it was time to pass people. The oranges were stunning for fall leaves in the whole area, including the drive. See more..
  32. 4.5 Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area (31 reviews)
    - Furnace, Trails, River, & Dam - What else could you want?
Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks
Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area image
This is one of those small parks on the Etowah River right before it goes to Lake Alltoona. You can see the remains of the furnace of course but, there are some trails as well. The park is owned by the Corp of Army Engineers I believe. The dead end of the street ends at Alltoona Dam. There are a number of stairs leading down to the river. A word of caution ; they can increase the flow of water from the dam just upstream at any time. There are toilets provided by the furnace. Also there is a park with swings and such for small kids, small soccer field, etc. I’d recommend this for anyone in the area who wants a quick getaway to be in some nature and check out a dam. - Outdoor Paradise
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center image
Hiking, fishing, canoeing, no wake boating, hunting, camping and even a lodge for the city slickers. There are over 5 trails, perhaps a total of 16 miles - loops and spurs. Some of the trails have rock cropping and some have stream or lake water features and views. Primitive tent camping is available for $6.50 and a lodge room runs about $55 (no TV or phone but has internet). This place is a diamond in the rough, and I hope it stays that way. I've been there during spring break and in early August and never had to deal with a crowd. Within 5 miles there a fine Barbeque. The main entrance is appx. 8 miles south of I-26 off SR 11. There is a 9-5 nature center/exhibit. Leave nothing behind but your footprints and enjoy the great Georgia outdoors. See more..

We absolutely love Oz. We have been here several times and it's our go to camp grounds. 1st time there we rented the "park model" cabin and enjoyed it. They had other rentals that range from the 1 bed/1bath park model to just a bed with community shower/bathroom. Their rv sites have full hookup with sewage. They have tent sites with power also. There's walking trails, huge bar with stage for live shows, nice and newly lined pool, small outdoor cafe next to the pool, and a leather shop. The bathhouse has stalls, open and area showers along with outdoor showers and a laundry on the backside. Recently they have been redoing a lot of things around the grounds to make it even nicer including adding fiber internet (currently being installed). All the residents and visitors are always so friendly and willing to help when needed. This really is the friendliest place we have been. See more..

This park is great for walks or runs mostly through the woods and along a creek. Formerly an old family farm, donated to Cobb County and cared for by a co-op of volunteers and Eagle Scout projects, this park is a nice break from the traditional park such as Swift Cantrell. We love both parks, but when we want to take a more leisurely walk with our dog through a shaded park, we choose Leone Hall Price Park. Throughout the park they have numerous picnic tables and benches, mowed wide paths across the fields, wild flowers, paths through the woods, and shade trees for hanging an eno hammock. It is always very quiet and peaceful. See more..

Enjoy the trillium, blueberry, and countless other fauna and flora found in this area. The nature center has small exhibits that would be just enough to hold the attention of a young child. There is also a quaint gift shop in the center. See more..

My family camped here - very clean, lots of boat slips. They have a playground, some cabins, a little beach, a store and an ice maker. Very well maintained campground. the only bummer is that all the lakefront spots belong to permanent residents, which I get. They are guaranteed money, but it would have been nice to have one for the weekend! we went out on the lake and caught over 20+ small fish. They also have fishing tournaments almost every weekend which was fun to see in person. See more..

My wife and I are avid RV campers. We traveled to Jekyll Island, GA for a few days of r&r during 2016 Christmas holidays. Jekyll was very nice this time of year. The campground was booked and full. Although the visit was extremely enjoyable, we tend to like a rustic backwoods setting. After our reservation was up (we could only get 3 nights due to high demand during the holiday season, last minute travelers) we set out on a new adventure. After much consideration, we decided to travel a couple of hours to the Okefenokee Swamp. We found The Griffis Fish Camp. This campground is in the middle of nowhereville. Seclusion, rustic, and historic. Right on The Suwannee River. It's roots go back to 1930. Still family owned. Full hookups $20 per night. Well worth the visit. See more..
