  1. 4.5 Forsyth Park (8.995 reviews)
    - Beautiful on a Sunny Day
    Spent < 1 hour Parks
    Forsyth Park image
In Charleston...it's the Pineapple Fountain, but when in Savannah it is the Forsyth Fountain, the signature piece in the huge Forsyth Park. It was a beautiful, sunny, mid 70's day in March when we wandered this park for the first time. So many places to sit, relax, and enjoy nature. Unfortunately, about a week before we arrived there was a 27 degree killing frost which did affect the Azaleas...which are everywhere in the park (and in Savannah in general). The unopened buds were not affected, so we did see some beautiful flowers of many different colors. There are many Live Oaks with hanging moss-that are clearly very old, and have experienced a lot in their lives. It was our pleasure to experience this beautiful park on a gorgeous day!! See more..

  9. 4.5 Tallulah Gorge State Park (1.054 reviews)
    - Great trails and amenities
    State Parks • Geologic Formations
    Tallulah Gorge State Park image
This was our second visit in two years. In 2019, in October, it was cooler and crowded. We climbed the 317 steps to the falls and it almost killed us. This time, it was warmer, and no crowds. We simply walked the well maintained trails to see several of the dam overlooks, and take pictures. No stairs! Admission to this GA state park was $5. Two years ago, in the Interpretive Center’s gift shop, I splurged on a pink tee shirt declaring that I survived the steps to the falls. The gift shop is still open, and items within are tempting. I did not succumb. I looked, and did not buy anything. But I wanted, too. The exhibits are informative and interesting. The staff is friendly and helpful. If you need to use the bathrooms, they are clean and well maintained. The Center is ADA compliant with ramps & an elevator. During Delta variant of CoVid, masks are recommended in crowded areas. This was a wonderful adventure with teenagers and adults. We had a group of 7, ages 11 to 55, and from the time we got there until the time we left, the staff was very attentive. Kayley and Jonathan did a great job of keeping us up on our current riddles of the day and jokes while teaching us the dos and don’t of ziplining. Joshua and Nolan were awesome at making sure we stayed safe. If ever in Helen for a visit this is a definite must do for some fun for all. Great job Sunburst Adventures staff! See more..

A visit in early April after heavy rains turned out to be a good time to see the waterfalls. 18. 4.5 Vogel State Park (653 reviews)
    - Cabin camping
Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM State Parks
    Vogel State Park image
We reserved a two bedroom cabin for four nights and we were very pleased with our choice. While this park is known for camping in a tent or motor home or trailer, cabin camping is another option as there are more than 30 cabins of various sizes to choose from. Our cabin was very modern. It included a full kitchen with a full size refrigerator, an electric range, a microwave and several small appliances. There were comfortable beds, televisions, a dining table inside, one on the porch and a picnic table near the fire pit. There were also chairs included in that area. There are rocking chairs on the covered porch so when it rained we were protected. As for activities, some people were on the lake in small boats or kayaks which I assume they brought themselves. Other activities at this time of year would be hiking and mini golf. There is a small gift shop at the visitor center. Or, weather permitting, just enjoy your time around a camp fire. See more..

Historic Banning Mills Zip Line Canopy Tours image
I can not recommend the ziplining at Historic Banning Mills highly enough. The zip lines are fast, thrilling, and give you nice views of the scenic environment. The guides were awesome!! They were helpful, personable, and made you feel comfortable with the equipment and activity. My only warning is, they have different bridges you need to cross while you are doing the tour. They were challenging and a bit unnerving for me, but others in our group seemed to enjoy them. All-in-all I say if you are in the Atlanta area and want some outdoor fun and excitement, give these guys your consideration!!! See more..

  25. 4.5 Providence Canyon State Park (479 reviews)
    - Beautiful Canyon
Thursday: 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM State Parks • Canyons
    Providence Canyon State Park image
We had a perfect day to explore the Canyon. An absolute must is good walking/hiking footwear. This is not a walk on pavement. The ground is uneven with roots and dips. But what a fun adventure! There is much shade on the Canyon Loop Trail. Trees have a white blaze to mark the trail and I would have liked a few more trees marked than currently there. Some of the lookout views are partially obstructed with trees that could be cut back. The scenery is beautiful and we took many pictures. We took our time and hiked this trail in almost two hours. We went in the middle of the week so it was not crowded. This is an inexpensive outdoor activity as the fee to park is $5. Take water to drink. Even though it was cool and shady, you will need to drink. The gift shop has snacks and beverages available for sale. See more..

It was raining but I'd still highly recommend this place as you can walk down into the canyon (which some people were down there even with the rain but we didn't do it because it was really muddy. We hope to go back when we can spend more time and see it to the fullest. Absolutely Beautiful!!! See more..
  27. 4.5 Red Top Mountain State Park (357 reviews)
    - Hiking Trails are Stunning

Red Top Mountain State Park image
This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing and fishing. Visitors can bring their own boats or rent from nearby marinas. A sand swimming beach is nestled in a cove and surrounded by trees, providing a great place to cool off during summer. Picnic shelters and group shelters may be rented for meetings, parties, reunions and other celebrations. Guests often stay overnight in rental cottages, a spacious campground or the park’s lakeside yurt. While best known for the 12,000-acre lake, Red Top Mountain is also a hiker’s haven. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, providing opportunities for exercise and nature photography. A short, paved trail behind the park office is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, welcoming guests to explore a reconstructed 1860s homestead. The gravel-topped 4-mile Iron Hill Trail is open to both hikers and bikers, offering pretty views of the lake’s shoreline.Named for the soil’s rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area. Iron pour programs are occasionally held near the Vaughn Cabin behind the park office. See more..

    High Falls State Park image
First, know that there are two camp grounds, lower camp ground and an upper camp ground. We stayed at the lower camp ground and I was nice. The 2.4 mile loop trail is just beautiful and I highly recommend the hour walk to see the whole thing. Then there is the trail that follows the length of the falls and it’s just as cool as it never strays to far from the water. The falls speak for them selves during the rainy season, massive, loud, and beautiful. The lake is so peaceful and full of little books and crannies to explore. We will definitely be back! See more..

Beautiful state park in the mountains of north central Georgia. Lots of beautiful sites within the park. Some on top of hills, others near the water. Bathhouse was clean and plenty of soap and paper towels. Campground host was warm and friendly. Very young rangers at check-in were shy and bearly spoke over a whisper but friendly nonetheless. Weather was unseasonably cold! Low 30’s at night for mid-October See more..

    Great Wolf Lodge image
Maternal & Paternal Grandparents joined Parents with children ages 13, 8, 6, & 3 for 2 nights celebrating our 6 year old grandson's birthday. Except for the 13 yr old, the grandchildren had a blast. The lodge and water park are well maintained and clean. Every encounter with the staff was awesome. The manager came out to inquire about the 3 yr old's allergies and personally dipped her a large helping of dairy free ice cream. The food we ate (hamburgers, French fries, chicken fingers, pizza and birthday cake ) was much better than we expected it to be compared to other parks we have visited. We were pleasantly pleased. Rooms were nice size. Several places for an Adult Beverage but $8 a beer snd $10+ for mixed drinks was a bit high. Everyone had a great time except our oldest. (But she was a trouper with her little siblings) This place is best for 11 yr old and younger children. It is however Quite Expensive but a fun family experience. See more..

Black Rock Mountain State Park image
We rented one of the remodeled cabins. The cabins are now up to date with new appliances and furniture. Porch furniture is good quality wooden but not comfortable for long sitting. I recommend bringing folding chairs for reading . Kitchen utensils are provided. They did not have wine cork screw so I bought one and donated it. Also no paper towels, so I donated a roll. The checkout process asks that you essentially get the cabin ready for next guests. I’m told that the parks can’t find enough staff. This appears to be the story at all Georgia parks. We do a lot RV camping in Georgia and while the parks are nice, we hear the same story from staff. Lack of staff and also delays in getting inventory for supplies and parts. See more..

This was an unplanned stop. I was working nearby and had my trail runners and state park parking pass in the car. I hiked the blue loop and the trail to the old mill. Both trails were relatively level although there are slight inclines. The temperature was about 97 degrees so I’d recommend wearing shorts on a hot day. Also there were many people swimming in the creek. It’s a very relaxing stroll. See more..

    Fort Yargo State Park image
I used to come here for mountain bike riding around 2003-07 but had never camped here. I really like this park, so when we decided to camp here I was super excited. Brought some additional family and had a great weekend. The sites are well spaced and maintained with the end result being a very quiet and enjoyable campground. Hiking, biking and lake activities are fantastic. However, the beach area could use some improvement. Apparently anyone who pays a day use fee can come to the same beach and picnic area as campers. So we had to share this area with probably around +300 other families. This was still not a deal killer as there were lifeguards and DNR officers on site, but I would have enjoyed the access to the lake a lot better if the attendance had not been so high. Maybe a separate beach area for campers only would be a solution. Anyways, great park! Plenty of outdoor activities and amenities. We will definitely be back! See more..

Driving through the park it's lots of turns and only one way but it's just beautiful. We loved turning sharp right to go to a playground and the bottom of the watery rocks. Those rocks ARE VERY SLIPPERY, so please be careful. We really enjoyed sitting in the water. You can walk all around the park to possibly find painted rocks. Lots of places to sit, plenty of trash cans so please dispose of it properly. Grills and fire pits. Finish it off with a line in the water at the huge pond. See more..

This park is one of the largest in Georgia, with miles of frontage to the mighty Chattahoochee River. We came here for the trails, but there are tons of things to do here. There are boat entry points, camping - prepared sites, walk in sites, and even shelters, playgrounds, a beautiful park office and store. Great, clean, facilities near the major trailheads and a great lookout tower that provided very pretty views. The trails includes one that goes the length of the park, with at least a couple of miles of river views. Trail is one way and goes up and down the bluffs, and ends at a small bathroom facility and picnic table. Bring your water and your camera - beautiful, peaceful, hikes await you! See more..

The scenery here is absolutely beautiful. My family and I enjoyed exploring the trails, getting wet in the creek and learning about Roswell's history. This was by far the best part of our trip and my family agrees hands down, we could have spent the whole day there exploring. Such a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Also the park and creek were very clean. Seems to be a locals favorite for families to visit, picnic, hike and take a dip in the creek to cool off on those hot summer days. A must see if you ever visit Roswell. See more..

Nice park with spacious site that are level stone. Electric needs to be improved with the park filled as it has been since we arrived 11/26/2020 there are large swings in voltage - my surge protector kept kicking off for low voltage especially in the afternoon and evening. There is boating, fishing, biking and walking trails and mini golf $5.00 per person. Loop 1 bathhouse was old but very clean. Loop 2 had a newer bathhouse with family showers. Premium sites have 50 amp and sewer. Other sites have 30 amp no sewer but all have cable hook-up. About 6 miles from I-75. See more..

We enjoyed this park so much. My husband and I stayed two nights in one of the yurts and then we moved to a cottage where we were joined by other family members for the weekend. The yurt was comfy and cozy with a great deck for relaxing in the sun or watching the stars. We stayed in Cottage 10, which is new and thoroughly modern, comfortabltly and beautifully furnished and decorated. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and ability to stroll in the woods or along the lake shore (water level was quite low), but it’s screened porch with room and seating for all was something we all enjoyed and wished we could duplicate at home. The super staff made sure everything went well and were very helpful for answering questions. See more..
