This is a must-see center when visiting Atlanta. From the informative exhibits in the visitors center to the contemplative reflective pool and tomb, the center held my teens' attention for almost two hours, which is no small feat. We came away with an even better understanding of the sacrifices made by the King family and others to bring about equality and social justice. The exhibits, film, even a tour of Dr. King's birth home are free. There are a couple gift shops to purchase books and other items. There is a civil rights walk of fame outside the visitors center. - The verbal credentials of this house's docents, the feeling portrayed made history become a reality.
Thursday: Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Stately Oaks image
Stately Oaks is an 1839 antebellum house listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its plain Greek Revival architecture is representative of the era in which it was built. It was originally constructed in 1839 by Mr. Whitmill Allen who sold his home to Robert McCord in 1858 and then moved to Tyler, Texas. It is located in Jonesboro, GA., the very city where Scarlett had to pay the taxes on Tara. Even though Tara only existed in Margaret Mitchell's imagination, she placed Tara in Clayton County where she had visited relatives who lived on a large plantation south of Jonesboro. Many of the stories she heard as a child are in the movie. Clayton County is truly home of Gone With the Wind. Also on site, are a one room schoolhouse, a tenant cabin, cook's house, country store, blacksmith shop and Native American Indian Village. See more..

    - FINALLY Got To See This!

    Radium Springs gardens image
We came once before, but were unable to enter because of storm damage. It's such a shame that so much of the original hotel had to be demolished, but the remaining structure apparently makes a great wedding venue (one was in progress when we arrived). The spring area, although now closed to boating, diving, and swimming, is still splendid to view. This must have been quite to place to visit "in the day". I wouldn't at all be surprised to learn that there was even a railroad spur that came here. See more..

His farm has been beautifully preserved as a monument both to his literary achievements and to help people today learn about what life was like on a farm in the first half of the 20th century. Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
    Euharlee Covered Bridge image
A lovely little place very popular with tourists and locales where you can find families, couples, and people taking pictures next to the covered bridge. As so many love to go there for photo shoots, you may have to wait a bit to get the covered bridge by your lonesome. The bridge is a bit old and weary; the wood at times feels it may allow you to plummet into the river/creek below. There is some stone structure nearby. ECBridge is a relaxing place to sit upon the grass and ponder away life's many mysteries. See more..

Cedartown Museum of Coca-Cola Memorabilia image
If you don't like the traffic in Atlanta, drive to Cedartown, GA and see the Cedartown Museum of Coca-Cola Memorabilia on Main Street. Using the 1900 Coca-Cola bottling plant in Cedartown, the Morris family, and especially 19-year old Daniel, have been working hard to prepare this place for opening and the result is a fantastic salute to Coca-Cola. The price of admission is very reasonable and the "staff" (the Morris family) are very knowledgeable and hospitable. Be sure to go back often because they are always adding new items to be seen. My favorite is the large mahogany wood bar in the front that came from England. A beautiful monument to the old-style soda fountains. See more..
