4.5Bonaventure Cemetery(6.725 reviews) - Just Amazing Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Cemeteries
Bonaventure Cemetery was developed on the historically-significant site of Bonaventure Plantation. The peaceful setting rests on a scenic bluff of the Wilmington River, east of Savannah. The site was purchased for a private cemetery in 1846 and became a public cemetery in 1907. Citizens and others can still purchase interment rights in Bonaventure. This charming site has been a world famous tourist destination for more than 150 years due to the old tree-lined roadways, the many notable persons interred, the unique cemetery sculpture and architecture, and the folklore associated with the site and the people. The entrance to the cemetery is located at 330 Bonaventure Road and is the largest of the municipal cemeteries containing nearly 100 acres. The cemetery is open to the public daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. . The main office of the Department of Cemeteries is located in the Bonaventure Administrative Building at the entrance.See more..

5.0Georgia National Cemetery(128 reviews) - Naiional Cemetery Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries
Such a special place in a beautiful setting in Canton, Georgia. Makes one appreciate what these soldiers did for our country. See more..
This is an amazing cemetery full of Confederate soldiers. Established in 1863, this was originally the resting place for 20 Confederate soldiers killed in a train wreck north of Marietta. It is the resting place to over 3,000 soldiers from all 13 Confederate states plus Maryland, Missouri, and Kentucky. There’s also a area where slaves are buried but sadly there’s no headstones for them. There’s an actual 6 pound canon that was using the Civil War here as well. This is a wonderful historical cemetery that should be seen and visited by all. Highly recommend.See more..
4.5Marietta National Cemetery(58 reviews) - Serene & Touching of the Heart & Mind ! Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Cemeteries
A serene place that stimulates appreciation and emotions ! A fitting monument to those who gave their lives for our form of government and freedom. More that 10,000 Union Soldiers and Officers from the Civil War are buried here. There are also persons from other wars: Revolutionary, WW I, WW II, Korean, & Vietnam. Nearly 20,000 soldiers and family members in total. The white markers with names, dates and the involved war are very touching. This National Cemetery with more than 20 acres of graves on a beautiful hill with scattered trees was established in 1866 after Sherman's Atlanta Campaign. It was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places during the fall of 1998. It is located between Roswell St and Washington Ave (South to North) and Rogers and Rock Streets (West to East). They even have a Pearl Harbor Monument that was added Dec 7, 1996. I am very sorry that I lived in Marietta, GA for more 25 years before I walked these hallowed grounds! I pause and salute them all !See more..
4.5Riverside Cemetery(32 reviews) - Wonderful Walk Thursday: 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM Cemeteries
The cemetery makes a wonderful walk. Although It is a "garden cemetery" and is kept beautifully, all of its historic charm is intact.See more..
This is a large 60 acre historic cemetery that was established in 1818. While strolling through the cemetery you will find confederate generals, five jewish cemeteries, and a greek cemetery. It's supposed to be haunted. We never found it but the oldest tree (a crepe myrtle) in Georgia is supposed to be in this cemetery. There is also a brick wall on the east side that was fortified during the Civil War to protect Augusta. The cemetery grounds are well kept as are the tree lined roads. I actually stepped on a small fire ant mound and then I started noticing how many there were. Many of the grave markers also had fire ant mounts built around them so be sure to keep your eyes open. The brick sidewalks are also in bad shape and are a tripping hazard so I would avoid them if you are walking instead of driving through the cemetery. We also saw a lot of bluebirds just hanging out on the headstones.See more..
Beautiful and peaceful cemetery. Great place for those who love history or those who wishes to pay respect to those who fought in the civil war.See more..
A friend of mine took me to visit this big, little cemetery after a disappointing hike on a local bike trail. Cedar Lane Cemetery is part of the Central State Hospital campus and has a very interesting history. The iron grave markers were quite a sight and there are many still in place throughout the cemetery. Most of the stone grave markers have either fallen over or been removed, but a few still remain. If you enjoy being outdoors, this old abandoned cemetery will afford you the opportunity to stroll over slight rolling hills as you explore the surrounding grounds. Be sure to read the plaque erected at the entrance. Learning just a bit of the history will make your trip a bit more meaningful. When you are finished, you can take the road into the rear entrance of Central State Hospital.See more..

4.5Mount Hope Cemetery(6 reviews) - A great piece of local history Thursday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Cemeteries
This pre-Civil War cemetery is only a couple of blocks away from downtown and a very easy walk through the beautiful campus of the University of North Georgia. It is very easy to find and if you aren’t sure, just pop into the Dahlonega Visitors Center. They are extremely kind and helpful. One of the few cemeteries that still has several "Slot and Tab" grave markers which are found only in this part of the country. Admission is free so you have nothing to lose. When I was here last Saturday morning, I was the only one wandering around the cemetery by myself so it was nice and peacefulSee more..
