National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center image
The National Infantry Museum emphasizes the values that define the Infantryman, as well as the nation he protects: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. It preserves and displays one of the greatest collections of military artifacts in the world, but it is a museum of people, not things. As a visitor, you will meet the Infantryman face to face and join him on his journey. You will come to understand why an Infantryman does what he does, why he puts himself in harm’s way in defense of an idea and you will leave transformed, just as the Infantry transforms the man into the Soldier. The 190,000-square-foot museum opened in June 2009 on a 200-acre tract of hardwoods and pines just outside the gates of the Fort Benning Maneuver Center of Excellence. See more..

By telling the stories of the navies of the Civil War, we connect people with the past; giving them a better sense of place and time. Located in Columbus, Georgia, the National Civil War Naval Museum overlooks the Chattahoochee River. We house the largest surviving Confederate warship, the CSS Jackson, as well as the wreckage of the CSS Chattahoochee. Other exhibits include a replica of the USS Hartford with its berth deck, ward room and captain’s cabin, an actual cutter or "ship's boat" from the USS Hartford, a full scale replica of the USS Monitor’s famous turret, and an immersive panoramic dockside exhibit recreating Plymouth, North Carolina, complete with an exterior and interior view of the CSS Albemarle. Among our many artifacts, we have the largest collection of Civil War Naval-related flags on display in the country. The collection includes various flags from ships and coastal forts, signal flags and Admirals’ pennants. See more..

    Webb Military Museum image
The Webb Military Museum, particularly for the admission price, is absolutely worth a couple hours of your time if you're interested in anything from the Revolutionary War all the way to Desert Storm. The proprietor is profoundly knowledgeable and can answer any question you might have...and some you'll not have thought of. If you're in Savannah, curious about the personal history of some of our nation's bravest, and have an hour or two to devote, I heartily recommend Mr. Webb's museum. I was absolutely and pleasantly floored. See more..

This is a gem of a store/museum for those interested and not offended by history and southern heritage. Mr Dent is a wealth of information and a gentleman with a kind soul no matter what cancel culture says. My husband came here as a kid and said nothing has changed. I wish I had met Mr Dent sooner so I could explore his store and hear his stories. He knows his stuff!! See more..
  11. 4.5 Sixth Cavalry Museum (20 reviews)
    - A hidden gem!
    Spent 1-2 hours Military Museums
    Sixth Cavalry Museum image
My whole family enjoyed this stop, even the younger kids (10 and 13). We came after an overnight stay at the Battleview Bed and Breakfast, and it was so neat to see pictures and a model of the Inn when it was used as housing for the band. We spent at least an hour here, but it still wasn't enough time. Even though the museum itself is smallish, there are hundreds of artifacts, some of which are hauntingly sad and disturbing (like the German spoons). We truly enjoyed talking to the museum staffer, too--she was so friendly and knowledgeable. You won't regret stopping here if you have an interest in military history. See more..
  12. 4.5 WW I I flight training Museum (15 reviews)
    - A hidden historic gem in Douglas
    Military Museums
WW I I flight training Museum image
I had always wanted to visit this place, as my grandfather was an instructor here during the war. It was great to see the buildings where the young men lived and trained to be WW2 pilots. Our docent, Jerry was very interesting and informative, and the museum, although small, really gave a great view into the lives and times of the men who lived here. My son and husband were especially interested in the hangar, where an old WW2 plane is being rebuilt, and enjoyed talking to the men who are working on it. We spent about 3 hours here, and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. I would certainly recommend it to anyone interested in history, and aviation. See more..

    The Aviation Wing image
The Aviation Wing is a growing collection of aircraft displayed on a 15 acre campus conveniently located 4.5 miles west of I-75, this museum highlights the impact the aviation industry has had on our local culture. We will show how aviation catapulted our fairly typical, small, Southern agricultural community into the industrial age and how Cobb County has impacted global events. In development of this facility, we also seek to interest America’s youth in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) disciplines through exposure to the science and physics of aeronautics and astronautics. Check out our Facebook page, @aviationwingofmarietta or come see us in person. We are open for visitors on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and on Sundays from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. 16. 3.5 Fort Hollingsworth (2 reviews)
    - Late 1700's history
Spent 1-2 hours Military Museums • Speciality Museums • Natural History Museums • History Museums
    Fort Hollingsworth image
Stopped here with a group on our motorcycles, and we all enjoyed the short visit. This isn't anything fancy, it is history preserved and the story told of a time in the late 1700's and early 1800's and it is interesting. Hard to imagine that in those times that particular part of North Georgia was considered the wild western frontier, but it was. If you are driving in the North Ga area, it is close to Cornelia, and not too far from Commerce. If you are into history, you will enjoy it. Not sure I would make it a destination, but if you were going to be around, sure it is worth you time. No facilities or any kind of services here, just the grounds and the historic buildings.
