We went for a walk on the Downtown Rome trail system. The trail runs along the river and is quite nice. Don't walk it alone, though, because the homeless down there can be agressive.See more..

4.5Cherokee Lake Park(7 reviews) - Great Loop Walk on a Sunny Day Thursday: 7:00 AM - 11:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Piers & Boardwalks • Scenic Walking Areas
My wife and I visited Cherokee Park for a walk when in Thomasville. The trail around Cherokee Lake is about 1.5 miles of partially shaded trail. There were many turtles and Canadian geese around including young ones. The grades are minimal which makes for an easy stroll. Part of the trail is boardwalk over the lake. The part is bisected by a railroad trestle bridge which is really awesome to see up close. The only downside was the number flies and the lack of a breeze. Otherwise this is a great place for a walk.See more..
4.5Helen To Hardman Heritage Trail(7 reviews) - Hidden Gem - easy walking trail along the Chattahoochee River from Helen to Hardman Farm Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
This mile-long paved trail at the south end of Helen is a hidden gem. The trail meanders through mature forest area along the Chattahoochee River. We found the north trailhead next to a free public parking lot across Edelweiss Strasse from the Econo Lodge. In the meadow next to the parking lot, we spotted a beaver; that was cool. The trail is paved, wide, and easily manageable by wheelchairs, strollers, and walkers of all skill levels. The trail is mostly shaded, making it a welcome refuge from the summer heat. We walked the full mile of the trail and ended up at Hardman Farm State Historic Site, which is the south trailhead. Here there is a challenging stairway to get from the parking lot to the trailhead, so I definitely recommend parking at the north trailhead in Helen. This trail has become one of our favorite stops in Helen.See more..
4.0Hiawassee Town Square(5 reviews) - Beautiful Park Historic Walking Areas • Scenic Walking Areas
Recently my wife and I were traveling through the area and needed a break. We stopped at this small park located in the center of downtown Hiawassee. Got to stretch our legs walking around looking at the beautiful flowers and the Blue Star memorial. This city park is home to a summer concert series as well as other community events. Ate a snack at one of the picnic tables and then got back on the road. Really enjoyed our time at the park. See more..

4.0Stonewall Creek Falls(3 reviews) - Nice Waterfall and Bike Trails Spent 1-2 hours Historic Walking Areas • Scenic Walking Areas
We took our dog for a hike to Stonewall Falls. It's a short easy hike down a gated road to the waterfall. It's not big, but very scenic and easy to reach and the area around the falls is nice to sit and enjoy nature. In the warmer months, you could splash around in the water. There are two mountain bike trails (Stonewall Falls and White Twister) to extend the hike or bike the trails. We also found a few small waterfalls on Stonewall Creek above and below the main waterfall, though you'll have to scramble and bushwhack to see them. Beautiful area and I would visit again if nearby.See more..

4.0Hapeville First Baptist Church(1 review) - Beautiful Service Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites • Scenic Walking Areas • Churches & Cathedrals I am not very religious, but the Hapeville First Baptist Church is such a strong-knit community. The people are so nice and the services have always been very insightful. They welcome anyone who needs a place to worship and it is located in the city center. The Jess Lucas park around is absolutely beautiful and historic. The town is also located by the original Chick-Fil-A which is also a sight to see while in Hapeville. Chapman's Drugstore has awesome limeade and limeade sours. The Buttersweet Bakery across the street is also worth the walk around town!See more..
