    Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail image
Yes, there are a lot of people on the weekends, but so what? It never impeded our brisk pace. Tip: park at Ponce City Market (we found street parking outside City Winery). If you can’t grab a street spot, you can use the parking garage, but it’s pretty congested on the weekends. Walk through the market upstairs to the Beltway. Very wide walkway that will take you past parks, a skate park, graffiti art classes, various musicians and tons of eateries and bars. You can even hop into Kroger. We barely scratched the surface, but understand you can connect to other trails and once the project is completed, walk around the entire city. See more..

We stayed in Hiram and biked south to Smyrna the first day - about 40 miles round trip. The next day we rode north around 15 miles. The trail is well marked with signage including mileage, food and places of interest. In addition, there are security cameras on parts of the trail. Finally, many trailheads include rest areas. If you enjoy biking or running this is a great trail. We would definitely recommend. See more..
  4. 4.5 Long Creek Falls (318 reviews)
    - A really nice short falls hike
    Hiking Trails • Waterfalls
    Long Creek Falls image
This is a nice little hike with a great falls experience at the end. You will be on the Appalachian Trail for most of the hike. The hike to the falls is about one mile and is mostly on an upward incline. The drive into the trailhead is 5 miles on a forestry road. It is mostly in good shape but does have some bumpy spots with mud holes. Most vehicles should be able to make it. We saw sedans and mini-vans. See more..

  6. 4.5 High Shoals Falls Trail (161 reviews)
    - Jeep Trail
    Hiking Trails
    High Shoals Falls Trail image
We happened upon this trail on Memorial Day weekend, we were looking to take a Jeep ride. Quite a few families were enjoying the outdoors with the same idea. We had to cross a creek before entering the road, low profile passengers cars did not attempt the creek and parked in the surrounding area. We drove along Indian Grave Gap and found the trail was quite narrow near the falls trailhead. We had to back down 150' or so to let a pickup by, cars were parked along the road to hike to the falls. It had rained early in the morning and most of the road was dry, except for a few puddles, nothing the Jeep couldn't handle. As we drove along a large bear crossed the road about 50' in front of us. He quickly went down the slope and we lost sight of him, but he was exciting to see. We have added this drive to our list to come back and visit again. It was beautiful. See more..

I come here whenever I can. Between the greenway in Forsyth county and the greenway in Alpharetta, I make a 40+ mile loop. It's easy to connect the two greenways via bike lanes on Windward; sidewalks everywhere else. Eventually the two greenways will be connected. See more..
  8. 4.5 Sope Creek Trail (123 reviews)
    - Great Hiking
Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails • Forests
    Sope Creek Trail image
Sope Creek is a real neat park. It is part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) federal parks along the Chattahoochee River. Sope Creek is used primarily for hiking and biking. Today a group of 10 friends hiked 6 miles around the park. Trails are marked with maps at junctions. Highlights included mill ruins along the creek and an old graveyard in the middle of park. See pics. Medium size parking lot which gets busy on weekends and holidays. Parking fee is required here (currently $5). Three CRNRA units connect together: Sope Creek, Cochran Shoals, and Powers Island. One of my friends said you can do a 17 mile hike if you combine all of them. Nice! Great area and worth a stop. My favorite CRNRA unit is "Island Ford" .... but all of them are worth a stop at least once if you are in the area. See more..
  9. 4.5 Vickery Creek Trail (123 reviews)
    - A gem close to home.
    Hiking Trails
    Vickery Creek Trail image
A hidden jewel close to home. My neph and I were headed a couple hours away to Toccoa Falls in north GA mountain area for day hike. Then, I remembered Vickery trail was actually closer to home than I thought. Labor day weekend was a beautiful day to get out, enjoy the scenery-the hike is along Chatahoochee river, get some exercise-trail starting at Riverside drive entrance to the waterfall is about 2 miles, 4-5 miles total depending on route; take this route with caution. Be careful, there are some steep cliff faces that can be a little tricky crossing. The trail is densely populated with beautiful forestry offering the perfect shade for this unpaved hike. I recommend starting/parking at the Old Mill Park as the trail will be a little easier. The waterfall is the grand finale and offers a awesome view after a great hike. Overlook the bridge for more awesome views and go up and down stairs for vantage points of the fall. Enjoy and be safe. See more..
  10. 4.5 Yonah Mountain Hiking Trail (110 reviews)
    - Great Views worth the work to get to the top
    Hiking Trails
    Yonah Mountain Hiking Trail image
So this is a strenuous hike but very manageable if you take your time on the uphill part. The trail itself is beautiful and well marked. We arrived early and were able to park in the parking lot. The parking lot is on the smallish side however there is parking along the road leading to the trail. The road going to the trailhead is unpaved and has some large ruts, etc. The views are very pretty from the top and well worth a visit. I would recommend shoes with good grip due to the few sections that require climbing over rock, etc. We took our small dog ( 15lbs) with us and he only needed carried over a few places. On the way down we did pass a lot of people coming up the trail and there were a few sections that required you to wait until others passed. I would definitely arrive early. See more..

The Blankets Creek Trail System image
I frequently Bike and Trail Run at Blankets Creek. The volunteers that take care of the trail here are really fantastic, quick to take care of felled trees and washouts. So I always abide by the trail open/close status so as to preserve their hard work. Van Michael's trail is great for working on your climbs, Dwelling is long rolling hills - not too aggressive, and South Loop is a substantial technical challenge with the most rocks & roots of the 3 big trails. There are proper restrooms on site next to the parking lot as well. See more..

Base of the Falls Trail image
We arrived at the park and it was packed; no COVID-19 social distancing here. The lower lot by the visitors center was full and we were directed to the parking lot at the top of the falls. We viewed the waterfall from the platform at the tip, then made our way down the East Ridge Trail. When we arrived at the bottom we snapped photos at the arch and used the restrooms. Make sure to bring water to stay hydrated the vending machines were sold out. We took the Creek Trail back up the falls, stopping to skip rocks at the pond. The water was cool and refreshing on our feet. Once we made it back to the top, we posed for celebration selfies and drove to the nearest Dollar General for Nutty Buddy ice creams. See more..

This park is a wonderful way to walk along the riverfront in downtown Macon and view the Ocmulgee river. The Ocmulgee is a little appreciated river that winds through Macon from Jackson Lake where is begins. It is the drinking source for Macon and a pleasant stroll along its shores awaits you. Great place to walk, jog, or ride bikes. There are stairs and a few steep climbs as you cross to the other side of the Ocmulgee. Enjoy! See more..
  19. 4.5 Angel Falls Trail (46 reviews)
    - Waterfalls on Joe Creek
Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails • Waterfalls
    Angel Falls Trail image
We took our dog for a hike to Angel Falls while visiting the area. In the winter when the campground is closed, there is trailhead parking on Lake Rabun Road for access. There are several waterfalls along the scenic trail. The first one is right near the trailhead in the campground and is a 20-foot stairstep waterfall. About half way down the trail is Panther Falls, the most scenic on the trail. There is a nice spot at the base to sit and enjoy the view. Middle Falls is just a short ways above Panther Falls and the trail ends at Angel Falls. It is the highest one on Joe Creek, but difficult to see due to dense rhododendron growing along the sides. Visiting in winter doesn't help. Overall, a really nice hike with lots of scenery. See more..

Nice 3 mile hike around the lake. Good signage and clear path to follow. Rocks along the path with nice up and down hill winding around the lake. We went on the “new trail” so the hike ended up a bit more than 3 miles. Easy access, near the city, nice way to burn off a few calories. See more..

    Leita Thompson Memorial Park image
A beautiful natural park right in the heart of Roswell. There are several different levels of trails to choose from: Red 2.5 miles, Blue 2.0 miles, Yellow 1.1 miles. The trails are well maintained. Lots of trees here. Small stream running through the park, and lake on the Red and Blue trails. There are lots of benches and swing seats right by the water so you can repose and have a picnic. Neat pavilion at the starting point of the trails. There are several maps posted as you walk the trails, so you know where you are. Also markers indicating how far you are on the trail. There is also a big open field where you can lie down and read a book, have a picnic, play frisbee or fly a kite. We love this park for a hiking. See more..

We were enjoying a drive up the gorgeous Burnt Mountain area and happened to see the little brown sign with binoculars and hiking logo, and thought, why not try it? We didn't have time to hike as it was getting late but we made it to the top by car before it was too dark. They have a great picture spot at the top. Free parking. And it's well paved for most of it until you arrive near the lot. Not like some where it's hard to get to and you constantly have to move aside for another car. We had no trouble when it was time to pass people. The oranges were stunning for fall leaves in the whole area, including the drive. See more..

    Pine Mountain Trail image
My wife and I were recently staying at Callaway Gardens and took a day trip to Georgia’s largest state park. We love walking in the woods and this 9049 acre park is a hiker’s dream. There are more than 40 miles of trails. We chose to walk sections of the Pine Mountain Trail and also the Dowdell’s Knob Loop. There are multiple natural terrain trails which wind through hardwood and pine trees. Features include creeks and small waterfalls. Be aware that there are also some narrow and rocky areas. Trails are well maintained and clearly marked. $5.00 daily use fee; No restroom facilities. Wear sturdy hiking boots and take energy bars and water. If you love to hike there is a trail here for you. Many scenic vistas in the park. We had a great time. Highly recommend. See more..

    Hiking Trails
    Wolf's Den Hiking Trail image
If you are out of shape, not used to hot weather or not a regular hiker this trail will surprise you. Most of the trail's interesting features are found within the first two miles (park at the Radio Station/transmission tower). Walking towards the falls on this well-maintained path is an easy, shaded trail for the first mile, but after that the trail becomes challenging with streams to cross and muddy paths to slog through. The return trip seemed especially trying as most of the path back to the parking area seemed to be uphill. See more..

    Allatoona Pass Battlefield Park image
The Battle of Allatoona Pass, while billed as one of the 'lesser' battles after the fall of Atlanta, was one of the bloodiest based on the 35% Union casualty rate and the Confederate 27%. This is a battlefield that has been well documented with signage by the Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites. If you wish to visit and appreciate to context for the battle, you will need to do some walking - a mile or so with some climbing as shown in the photo. The only part of the battlefield that cannot be seen is Roulettes Redoubt to the west of the Star Fort; it is all forest with undergrowth and appears to be on private land. See more..

Close to the parking area and a loop so it would bring us back to where we started. We felt like it was maybe a little harder than “easy” if you are not an experienced hiker. Keep in mind this is NOT at a National park, they are trails forged through the woods so there are no bathrooms, water fountains or other facilities. Eastside Trail image
Running 2.5 miles from downtown Covington to Eastside Highschool, the Eastside Trail is Newton County's newest multi-use greenway trail. Opened in early 2013, the 10-foot-wide concrete path begins off Ramsey Drive in Covington, just west of the Newton County Public Library. The first .6 miles meander through a woodland area behind the library and the Newton County Health Center. After winding gently though the woods over rolling terrain, the trail drops down to cross Martin St at the intersection with Hazelbrand Rd. The trail features four wooden boardwalk sections that traverse forest wetlands and a tunnel beneath the Covington Bypass Rd that allows pedestrians and cyclists to pass safely beneath the traffic overhead. On the east side of the bypass, the trail continues east and then runs between pasture land and woods south to the high school. At the northern endpoint parking is available behind the Newton County Health Center (8203 Hazelbrand Rd NE, Covington, GA 30014). Visitors walk through Chimney Park to access the Eastside Trail. At the southern endpoint visitors can park at Eastside High School (10245 Eagle Drive, Covington, GA 30014) when school is not in session. See more..

This park is great for walks or runs mostly through the woods and along a creek. Formerly an old family farm, donated to Cobb County and cared for by a co-op of volunteers and Eagle Scout projects, this park is a nice break from the traditional park such as Swift Cantrell. We love both parks, but when we want to take a more leisurely walk with our dog through a shaded park, we choose Leone Hall Price Park. Throughout the park they have numerous picnic tables and benches, mowed wide paths across the fields, wild flowers, paths through the woods, and shade trees for hanging an eno hammock. It is always very quiet and peaceful. See more..

The trail was easy to find but the trail is not for small kids, small dogs or anyone winy. You drive about 1.5 miles in a dirt road access. Park and walk over some mud, rocks, multiple (10) creek crossings (about knee deep water) that can be slippery, climb through downed trees and end 3 + miles later at a beautiful 200 foot tall waterfall. It took us 1:30 to hike up and 1:20 to return. Bring water and snacks. Leave early. Follow the green tags on trees to stay on the trail. These tags can be challenging to find at the first creek crossing which is about 0.5 miles from the parking area. The first creek crossing very rocky. The rest of the hike is all woods Have fun See more..

We went on a Sunday, so it was pretty busy. We were lucky enough to find parking in one of the lots, but it took awhile. We packed a picnic and wanted to find a place away from others. We did find a place not far from the river and tucked behind a building so it was perfect. We really enjoy our picnic and then we decided to take a walk and really enjoyed the walking area at the park as well. It was fun to see people kayaking and tubing down the river. We will definitely visit this park again, it was a wonderful day. See more..

With around 15 total miles of trails, you can get a great ride in, or if you just want a quick ride, the trails are broken up into several shorter loops. Most of the MTB trail system is singletrack, with some sections great for beginners, and some with nice climbs and fast descents. There isn't anything there that a moderately skilled rider can't handle. A couple of creek crossings will lead to a great downhill run with dirt berms and jumps. The park also offers paved trails for recreation, playgrounds, hiking and horseback trails, and various ball fields. Gwinnett County outdid themselves on this park. It is worth a drive! See more..
