    The visitor center is informative and well-situated at a location, Savannah Rapids Park, that is scenic year-round. After loading up on information, treat yourself to the trails in the adjacent Augusta Canal National Heritage Area, the history of which is inextricably tied up with the Savannah River and its rapids. Touted as the only intact industrial canal in the American South in continuous use, the falling water of the mighty Savannah was put to both very good and quite dubious use over time.
