Informative and interactive with free parking
We really enjoyed both the view at the top of the lighthouse and the living museum. Free parking is also a huge benefit while you explore (2hr max). As one of the 20 tallest lighthouses in the US, the 178 stairs gave us a little exercise before enjoying a great 360 view of Tybee, Hilton Head and all the cargo ships going to/from Savannah. The steps are nicely constructed with a handrail and they limit the number of people that can be in the lighthouse at one time which was great. The living museum was informative and interactive. They have a video you can watch about the light-keeper and families that lived there years ago when it was much more isolated. You can tour the light-keepers house and some of the other buildings that have been restored.

    A Day Trip To Tybee
I would highly recommend touring the lighthouse! We spent the day in Tybee and wanted to make the 178 step journey to the top of the lighthouse and we were glad we did! All of the staff was extremely nice and the views and history would take your breath away (literally). Parking was right on the ground (free w/admission while attending the events there), admission is $10 but not only gives you access to the lighthouse but all buildings on ground, and museum across the street. If you have anyone with mobility issues this might be very challenging. The steps are broken up into sections of 25 so once you complete a section, you can stop and take a break and feel the breeze coming through the windows. Gift shop has some very cool item and it’s moderately priced. I would recommend for anyone in the area.
