Worth the Hike

This is a short half mile paved hike. It does have a steep incline near the end, so we recommend pacing yourself. The falls are beautiful and definitely worth it. We did see a large age range hiking. I personally would not recommend this for toddlers, as there are steep drop offs on the sides of the trails. Though we did see several toddlers. I also would only recommend strollers or wheelchairs for those who are physically strong to push up a steep incline, or who plan to take breaks on the way up. There are benches along the path. There is a nice gift shop and friendly staff on the premises. It probably took us 30 minutes to hike up, view, and hike back down. They do charge $5 per per adult.

    So Worth a Visit!
From the parking lot, the ascent to the falls was 0.4 miles one way. The trail had a mostly gentle, steady incline except for maybe two or three spots. Paved trails all throughout, so heavy duty hiking shoes are not really necessary. Take your time. The sound of water gushing down towards the lake is very relaxing and takes you away from the hurries in the world, as does the pretty scenery. For an extra treat, try meandering through the loop next to the picnic spot off the parking lot. There are listening benches along the trail loop. This mini-trail makes for some nice quiet time if only for a few minutes, as well as a bit of history lesson and re-appreciation for our natural world. The walk to/from and around the falls made for an excellent morning jaunt. Ps. Be aware that the entrance fee at the gate is cash only at $3 per person. There is an ATM drive-through downtown at a bank next to Hansen & Gretel store on Main St.

    Opens at 9am
Anna Ruby is an exceptionally beautiful hike and falls located adjacent to Unicoi State Park. It is notable that it is not operated by the state park and is gated. Gates open at 9am and they charge $3 a person to park. The roundtrip hike is under a mile and follows a rambling river the whole way. The final view has a couple observation decks and gets you plenty close to this pretty pair of falls. We went first thing in the morning and, with the constantly running water, made for a nice morning setting. The lack of crowds made it even better. This falls was much better than Dukes Creek and I did not do Ravens Cliff to compare to that. Overall, Anna Ruby is an accessible and easy hike that any visitors to Helen should check out.
