During the 1790s, James Vann became a Cherokee Indian leader and wealthy businessman. He established the largest and most prosperous plantation in the Cherokee Nation, covering 1,000 acres of what is now Murray County. In 1804 he completed construction of a beautiful 2 ½ story brick home that was the most elegant in the Cherokee Nation. After Vann was murdered in 1809, his son Joseph inherited the mansion and plantation. Joseph was also a Cherokee leader and became even more wealthy than his father. In the 1830s almost the entire Cherokee Nation was forced west by state and federal troops on the infamous Trail of Tears. The Vann family lost their elegant home, rebuilding in the Cherokee Territory of Oklahoma. Today the Vann House survives as Georgia’s best-preserved historic Cherokee Indian home. A guided tour allows visitors to see the house which features beautiful hand carvings, a remarkable “floating” staircase, a 12-foot mantle and fine antiques. See more..

    Moonrise Distillery image
We’re doing things at Moonrise Distillery like they’ve been done since the early 1950s. While it seems like an old-fashioned, inefficient process, our use of tried and true methods and time consuming double-distillation removes impurities for a more refined sipping bourbon and rye whiskey. And unlike most distillers, we let our spirits tell us when they are ready - aging by taste and not by time. We also craft small batch vodka, artisan gin and brandy. Our mountain distillery setting is the perfect place to enjoy a souvenir tasting tour and then relax and enjoy our craft cocktails. Our venue features an 80 foot long covered front porch with view of Black Rock Mountain, an outdoor grotto and fire pit area. We also host live music at our music pavilion complete with turf lawn. We are open for tours Monday through Saturday except Wednesday from 11am to 5pm. We remain open for cocktails and relaxation until 8pm. Our Sunday hours are 12;30 to 8. We look forward to seeing you soon. See more..

The Blankets Creek Trail System image
I frequently Bike and Trail Run at Blankets Creek. The volunteers that take care of the trail here are really fantastic, quick to take care of felled trees and washouts. So I always abide by the trail open/close status so as to preserve their hard work. Van Michael's trail is great for working on your climbs, Dwelling is long rolling hills - not too aggressive, and South Loop is a substantial technical challenge with the most rocks & roots of the 3 big trails. AMP’s main road circuit is a two mile long road course that was designed by Formula One track architect Herman Tilke. The track consists of 16 turns and 98 feet of elevation change. Two famous corners were incorporated into the track: Spa-Francorchamp’s corner of Eau Rouge and the famous Carousel corner from Germany’s Nürburgring track. AMP’s karting circuit is 8/10ths of a mile in length and was also designed by Tilke. The track features 17 turns and 43 feet of elevation change, which is pretty extreme when you are riding two inches off of the ground. The track has quite a bit of character built-in as well, with a near four-story drop into a 180 degree hairpin and one of the longest straightaways of any kart track in the country. See more..

We arrived as they opened so we had a good parking spot (general admission) . Before the movie families played frisbee, soccer, baseball and football on the green in front of the screen. People brought chairs, air mattresses, blankets to put on or near their vehicles. The workers were friendly and helpful. Remember the radio is set to 95.9 FM for movie audio. They had typical concessions for sale ( we got popcorn and pretzels) . It is definitely a relaxing atmosphere I’d recommend if you are in the area. See more..

Stopped in while checking out the town of Covington yesterday with my family. I was met by the most lovely young lady who I assume is the owner of this establishment. She guided me through the tasting process and led me to a few that she thought I would like. I was overwhelmed by the number of flavors and styles of oils and vinegars. They also have a lot of other tasty goods to sample and purchase including jams, salsas etc. Left about $70 lighter but with some delicious goods that I am sure to enjoy in the near future. Loved the little recipe cards as well that they provided for inspiration. Loved the store, the hospitality and the town I will return. See more..

RiverCenter for the Performing Arts image
Located in the heart of historic uptown Columbus, RiverCenter for the Performing Arts is the centerpiece of the city’s new arts and entertainment district. Conceived as a vital cultural hub, the center was designed by the multi-national architectural firm Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer and Associates to artistically enrich the Chattahoochee Valley region. RiverCenter’s state-of-the-art facilities include the 2,000-seat Bill Heard Theatre, the center’s main venue and home to the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Featuring orchestra, mezzanine and balcony seating, the hall is designed to meet the complex technical needs of attractions such as Broadway shows, symphonic concerts, dance performances, pop concerts, lectures and conferences. From the ceiling large interwoven ribbons of steel mesh contribute a sense of intimacy, while shaped balcony fascias and custom light fixtures provide color, texture and warmth. See more..
  50. 5.0 Mill Pond Kayak, LLC (38 reviews)
    - Amazing experience! Fun for all ages!
Boat Tours • Kayaking & Canoeing
    Mill Pond Kayak, LLC image
I stumbled upon some photos of Mill Pond Kayak while trying to plan a family trip to Savannah. I knew immediately this was something I absolutely had to do so I booked a tour for myself, my brother, and my parents. I was a little worried my parents wouldn’t really enjoy it but the whole fam ended up having a BLAST! George L Smith State Park is so beautiful and so peaceful - a nice little escape from the city and totally worth the 1.5 hour drive. The tour itself was awesome and lasted about 3 hours or maybe a little over. Most importantly, Wesley is an incredible guide. He taught us about the different wildlife and plant life out on the pond as well as the history of the park. He also takes photos throughout the kayaking tour - so you’ll end up with some really cool pics of your experience (what a bonus)! I highly recommend booking a kayak tour with Mill Pond Kayak. It’s seriously so much fun!! See more..
