We had the best cruise with Captain Nate! We booked the larger boat, but since only 5 people signed up we ended up with the smaller boat. Captain Nate was engaging with everyone, full of knowledge, and made sure my 7 year old daughter (the only kid on the cruise) was having a blast. Nature cooperated as we saw tons of playful dolphins, a herd of wild ponies, various sea birds, crabs, an eagle's nest, and more. We learned about the history of the ponies on the island and the annual swim, saw the lighthouse and the NASA launch site, and spent a great morning on the water. My daughter is already asking to go back! This adventure was well worth the money and I highly recommend sailing with Daisey's and Captain Nate!See more..

5.0Saltwater Pony Tours(1.055 reviews) - Captain Henry for the win! Thursday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Boat Tours • Eco Tours • Sightseeing Tours • Dolphin & Whale Watching • Nature & Wildlife Tours
We took 2 boats out for our party of 9 on July 1st and Captain Henry and Captain Michael made sure we had a great time! We saw gray bottlenose dolphins up close, several different waterfowl feeding on the shell beds, the famous ponies and even a bald eagle perched on a tree! Speaking from my boat, Captain Henry was a friendly, knowledgeable waterman who was able to keep us both informed and entertained during our 2+ hr excursion. He even navigated our pontoon through the winding marshland to make sure we got close enough to take some prime pictures of the ponies that were out. 5 stars all the way around!See more..
5.0Chrysler Museum of Art(1.017 reviews) - World-class museum that puts many others to shame. Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Art Museums
I’m still stunned over what I just experienced. I have trouble fathoming that a world-class museum is in Norfolk, but this compares favorably to anything I’ve seen, anywhere. Period. The museum isn’t particularly large, so I only planned to spend maybe an hour. I spent three hours. The quantity and variety of works is very good, but the quality of what’s on display is the differentiator. This museum doesn’t just display stuff to fill shelves, it displays things other museums simply can’t, because Chrysler was apparently a very picky collector. And astonishingly, I was told that they only have room to display about 30% of the overall collection. Admission is only $3, and most astonishingly, they ENCOURAGE you to take pictures to share your experience. That’s really very, very rare in a top tier museum. My very highest recommendation… 5+ stars.See more..

5.0National D-Day Memorial(940 reviews) - An absolute must visit Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monuments & Statues
The National D-Day Memorial is located in Bedford, Virginia - the community suffering the highest per capita D-Day losses in the nation. The Memorial honors the Allied forces that participated in the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944 during World War II. With its stylized English Garden, haunting invasion tableau, and striking Victory Plaza, the Memorial stands as a powerful permanent tribute to the valor, fidelity, and sacrifice of D-Day participants. The Memorial is encompassed by the names of the 4,413 Allied soldiers who died in the invasion, the most complete list of its kind anywhere in the world. Visitors can expect both an educational experience as well as an emotional one, as they walk the grounds at the Memorial and leave with a clear understanding of the scale and sacrifices made during the largest amphibious landing the world has ever seen. On June 6, 1944, 150,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which "we will accept nothing less than full victory." More than 5,000 ships and 11,000 aircraft supported the invasion, and by day's end, the Allies gained a foot-hold in France. The D-Day cost was high with more than 9,000 Allied soldiers killed or wounded as the march across Europe to defeat Hitler began.See more..

This is a fast and easy way to cross over the James River and have a bit of fun while doing it. Surprisingly, it's free! There were 10-15 vehicles in front of us waiting to get on but the staff quickly directed each vehicle to the appropriate spot and we left the shore at 4:22P. The ride was smooth and we arrived on the Jamestown side much more quickly than we expected. Exiting the ferry was fast and efficient as the staff expertly directed vehicles to drive off, and we were on our way. Would utilize this ferry again!!!See more..
5.0Patriot Tours & Provisions(669 reviews) - Fun and Educational Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Segway Tours • Historical & Heritage Tours • Gear Rentals
I found this lovely company via the visitor’s website for the area and I am so happy I did! The ease of making reservations, watching the safety video and signing the waiver on line was a snap. They send reminder email with directions to the free parking that is directly across the street. The Segway itself is so much fun to ride! After feeling a bit awkward for a minute it becomes intuitive, so now worries there. Aaron was our guide and he did a fantastic job blending history, fun tidbits about local drama, and giving us time to ride the Segway for fun and wander around the graveyard. 10/10 I recommend you take this tour and patronize the shop afterward - they have fantastic stickers! 5.0Catoctin Creek Distillery(609 reviews) - Amazing from start to finish! Thursday: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Distilleries
Catoctin Creek® Distilling Company was founded by Becky and Scott Harris in 2009 as the first legal distillery in Loudoun County since before Prohibition. We are located in Purcellville, Virginia, in the heart of the Loudoun Valley. Loudoun County, often called D.C.'s Wine Country, is home to more than twenty vineyards and wineries, and it now has a distillery. At Catoctin Creek, we believe in high quality food and spirits. Organic means higher quality: grain and fruit, sourced locally when possible, free of pesticides and chemical additives that would come through in the spirits we produce. Sure, it is more difficult to produce organically, but the results speak for themselves. The Virginia Rye Whisky!See more..
5.0Williamsburg Walking Tours(577 reviews) - African American walking tour Cultural Tours • Ghost & Vampire Tours • Historical & Heritage Tours • Walking Tours • Private Tours
The tour was excellent. Our guide, Patricia Duncan, was knowledgeable and passionate about the history and sharing her information with us. She is a great teacher and storyteller. Our group, my mom and my two sisters—all grown, appreciate the time and detail she gave to the subject. See more..
You absolutely must book a Bay Back Cruise with Captain Barry! Captain Barry is an awesome dude. He provides non-stop fun and learning for the whole family - if my kids (5 & 8) had their way we would have taken Captain Barry's cruise everyday during our stay on Chincoteague Island - it was that awesome! Everything he says in his add he delivers on: from letting my kids raise a crab pot so we could hold baby crabs, playing fun music while we zipped across the water, to the exploration of shell island; and all the while teaching us about the history and ecosystem of Chincoteague Island and it's waters. We already plan on taking another cruise with Captain Barry upon our next visit to Chincoteague Island. And even if you don't have kids, you should still book a cruise with Captain Barry. You'll be glad you did!See more..

5.0Go Ape Zipline & Adventure Park(507 reviews) - Challenging, exciting, one of the best days I've ever had!!! Thursday: Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
My favorite part wasn't the awesome course nor was it the thrill of the breath taking ride. It wasn't the beautiful landscape neither. Although it was all of those things, my favorite part was the employees and the way they treated my son and me! They were all so friendly and helpful. Patient with us first timers. Eager to help an over weight, out of shape, elder lady such as myself! They complimented us on the few parts we did well and reassured me on the parts I struggled with. Made me feel less embarrassed when I got in a place I couldn't get out of without assistance. You guys are awesome! A Plus!! We will definitely be returning!See more..

Did this hike in autumn, early morning with an energetic 5 year old and 9 year old. Hike was not hard at all and was incredibly rewarding at the end. The kids were in awe, and raved about it in the moment and still now after we have gotten home! I would recommend going early—parking lot was empty and got some time to take in the summit solo without anyone there, which wouldn’t be possible with a crowd. See more..
5.0Rocking S Ranch(471 reviews) - What a great ride! Thursday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Ranches
Bill (the owner/operator) was fantastic! Our 90 min trail ride was more like two hours. It was just Bill, me, and my mom. The ride takes you through the woods, up and down some inclines, and through a creek (twice!) Horses were very gentle and well-behaved. Bill regaled us with stories/jokes and information about the area. We were staying at the Salamander Resort but booked our horseback riding at Rockin’ S because the price was way better and the ride was longer. Highly recommend!See more..

5.0Old Rag Mountain Hike(385 reviews) - Amazing rock scramble in Shenandoah Hiking Trails
This is an amazing hike in Shenandoah National Park. The entrance to the hike is outside the park, but there is an entry fee. We arrived at 7:30 on a May Saturday and we got parking by the entrance, and it was not too crowded. This definitely a unique strenuous hike. There are rock scrambles with narrow passes and areas requiring the ability to use one's arms to pull up. Parts of this scramble are single file, and easy to see why lines can form on the top. Carrying a large pack in this area can affect maneuverability. The altitude changes are not unreasonable, and at 9 miles, it is not too long. What sets this hike apart is the approximately 1 mile ridge scramble on the ridge. There are views on both sides of the mountain, and plenty of view points to sit and have a snack or lunch. The fire road following the summit is a nice respite from the altitude changes, but at 3-4 miles, is a little long and slo paced, but does go by a stream.See more..

My husband and I had a wonderful time glamping in the Shining Star Tipi. We had a very relaxing and unique experience. All was done on a luxury scale with everything needed to have a comfortable stay even heated floors for the chilly mornings. The decor is rustic but lovely. The well equipped kitchenette is nice and there is all you need to cook on the fire pit outside your tipi. Also there are chairs and a picnic table for your enjoyment right outside your door. The pool and family play area is very close by.. There is plenty of space between tipis so no feeling of neighbors intruding. The housekeeping is tops. Everything was shiny clean. We had a long chat with Mark the owner. He is a great person and very hospitable. The whole staff is awesome. Check in and check out is very easy. Wifi is good. What more could you ask for??? Everyone should go glamping in a tipiSee more..
The visitor center and country store were closed. The roads were clear but it had definitely snowed and temperatures were threatening to remain below freezing. Was this really necessary? Yes, and it was amazing. The frozen waterfall was awesome to behold - just a tad slow to get there. The Pinnacles offered views that are the best around - it was stunning. We just scratched the surface of this gorgeous park but what we saw was amazing leaving us with lifelong memories. Highly highly highly recommend!See more..

Walked the Noland Trail at the Mariner's Museum in Newport News yesterday (9/10/21). It is a great, well-marked 5 mile trail around Lake Maury. (We actually walked about 6 miles because we went out to each overlook along the trail.) There are options (study the map at the trailhead) for shorter hikes to leave the trail. Tree roots are marked with bright paint and the trail is well maintained. Perfect for all ages though not wheelchair friendly. So nice to have a walking/running trail like this in the City. We felt like we were in a nice shaded forest the whole walk. Highly recommend a walk on the Noland Trail if you are looking for exercise or a fun nature experience.See more..

5.0Jordan Hollow Stables(272 reviews) - Most Amazing and Magical Experience Horseback Riding! Spent 1-2 hours Horseback Riding Tours
Without a doubt this is the best place to go horseback riding in the Luray, VA area!!! I surprised my girlfriend with their special occasion ride and wow, I was impressed. My expectations were beyond exceeded! Lisa and the guides were super lovely and went above and beyond to make this surprise extra special. They had a whole setup for us about halfway through our ride and took care of the horses while we had some time to celebrate! Regardless, if you don’t do a special occasion ride, this is still the place to go to. Customer service was an 11/10, they are very communicative and work with you. Beforehand, I was worried it was going to rain and I would have to cancel our ride, so I called Lisa multiple times and she was super sweet answering all my questions and monitoring the weather. Luckily it turned out to be sunny which made the special ride so much better. I highly recommend going to this place (because I will be coming back for sure)!See more..

It is a great time to visit. Not many places are open but those which are give an in-depth explanation that truly was more deeply understood than when in the past I tried to take it all in. By visiting the two court houses, I learned about the change from English court system to our evolving American one. They take 10 people into five main sites and make them come alive! It felt personal in a way that it doesn't when crowds are there rushing into one place and another.See more..
